hogso Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 When, I think it was @mjmooney, posted about this in another thread, I was going to make a not so sarcastic reply that Trois Couleurs Bleu is far superior. Imagine my disappointment, then, when I look at the whole list and find it doesn't even made the top 100! At least Pierrot le Fou does.
Mark Albrighton Posted December 10, 2022 VT Supporter Posted December 10, 2022 I’ve seen about a quarter of those I think. Considering I hadn’t heard of number one until the other day, that’s more than I thought. Having said that, there’s over 50 on the list that I’ve either never heard of and/or I couldn’t tell you what it was about (e.g. I know of La Dolce Vita, I know there’s a woman in a fountain at some point, but that’s it). Weird that something like The Seventh Seal doesn’t seem to be on it. 1
mjmooney Posted December 10, 2022 VT Supporter Posted December 10, 2022 (edited) Seen 52 of them, generally a good list. BUT... I'm still speechless about #1. Edited December 10, 2022 by mjmooney
nick76 Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 It’s a bizarre list. I understand under those requirements and that type of group of people they, or the consensus/poll, those are greatest films but seems pretty bizarre that most of those films, the general person on the street who enjoy films, have never heard of them. I know I’m probably opening a Pandora’s box by that comment.
Xela Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 Can't see any of the Rise of the Footsoldier movies on there? Must be some mistake. 1
bickster Posted December 10, 2022 Moderator Posted December 10, 2022 Pffft, where do these people get off pushing these crap films that no-one has heard of and telling us they are great Must be obscure for a reason If Caddyshack isn't in the list, the list is worthless And why so much obscure French, German, Italian, Japanese and even Russian films It's even got that Japanese rip off of the Magnificent Seven in it, yet ignores the masterpiece itself Music snobs wouldn't do this thats for sure 2
GarethRDR Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 My grandiloquent hot-take; that list needs to swap out Do The Right Thing for La Haine. Yeah, that's right, I said it Spike; come and get me, you Rosie Perez-groping, Oldboy-butchering hack. Now, if you'll excuuuuuuse me, I'll be returning to my Châteauneuf-du-Pape and latest edition of Cahiers du Cinéma. 3

useless Posted December 11, 2022 Author Posted December 11, 2022 Missed Vertigo off my list which would be somewhere in the top ten, all the films from the original list that I've seen I've liked, so Wanda being bottom for example is not a criticism of that film. On Jeanne Dielman I don't think it's best film ever made but watched it for the first time in the last year or so and was a lot better than I was expecting, not that I was expecting it to be bad but from the some of the descriptions I'd read I thought it was going to be a lot slower and plotless than it actually was, by most standards it is slow with not much going on in terms of a story-line but there's enough there to make it intriguing, it's a three hour plus film and I wasn't bored by it, also it's very well shot, have seen it compared to Kubrick in that sense and can kind of see where that idea comes from. List or order not really important in of itself other than maybe might get some people to try new films, the individual director lists will be more interesting when they release those
