Sorry which one is a dangerous game?

Bednarak where we have half a dozen players who can play centre back?
Sanson who never plays?
Guilbert who also never plays?
or just Ings who we have signed another forward and everyone expects another to come through the door?

Not very dangerous to me

Exactly. If anything, we haven’t let enough go!

I swear some posters think we’re in a European competition playing every other Thursday.

We don’t need a big squad. Not get anyway.

I’d say it’s the opposite of dangerous . Freeing up wages and getting rid of the deadwood, something we have been very poor at in the past.

This...  VillaTalk cries every window about why we can't shift deadwood, but when we actually start doing it the complaints start about lack of depth.  Glad to see Emery is being ruthless here with the team.  Basically telling everyone if you want to go, go (Ings).  If I don't think you're good enough to be a part of the team this season (Guilbert, Sanson, Bednarak, Nakamba, etc.) you're out the door as soon as an offer comes in, otherwise you'll continue to not play.

For once, I agree with you!  hahaha

I think this summer is where the rework will kick into high gear and we see some current starters being sold or dropped to the bench with replacements coming in ahead of them.

This and the fact he’s given each player an opportunity to prove they’ve improved before leaving. Bar Guilbert and Nakamba they all featured in league games and had and started vs Stevenage which sends a better message to the rest of the squad than just bombing then out.

I'm talking about the whole transfer window so far. Its good that the players that have left so far are gone. The dangerous part is if the deals for the new players aren't already signed off or agreed and they change their mind about coming to villa, we will be left with no depth.

IN - Alex Moreno, Jhon Duran

OUT - Guilbert, Ings, Sanson, Bednarak, Archer.

I didn't say I was unhappy about the players leaving.

At the moment its 2 in and 5 out !

"everyone expects another to come through the door"

Does every transfer that fans expect to happen always happen ?

My post was based on the actual facts of what has currently happened in the transfer window !

The ones highlighted never played anyway. Whilst our squad is smaller on paper it’s not as weaker as many seem to be making out. The biggest weakness we have is actually cover for Emi.

edit: sorry just realised the post you replied to said the same thing.

It’s a slippery slope. You’ll be pressing the heart button on my posts next..

I don't agree with the "no depth" argument...

  • Guilbert wasn't even training with the first team squad - Wasn't even considered a part of the team, TBH
  • Archer needed 1st team footy and minutes to continue his development.  Honestly should have never stayed in the 1st team this season to begin with
  • Sanson got more minutes under Emery than Smith and Gerrard combined but even still, he was never considered more than a fringe player
  • Bednarak was a temporary stop gap until Diego Carlos returned to the squad...  Barely played for us and Diego Carlos is due back to the 1st team next month, so Bednarak is no longer needed
  • Ings is the only one which I think was not initially planned to be let go this January, but West Ham came in with a good offer and Ings himself asked to leave because he wanted to start more games.  Emery decided to let him go and continue to try for someone like Thuram or Dembele this window as a replacement.  Otherwise, we'll have to get creative with a loan until this summer when we can go for a striker who really improves us.

We don’t play Leicester until Feb 4. There’s so much time to bring in players still. Trust the process.

That’s not true, we only have one Wednesday (tomorrow) left of the window 😜

We are starting to resemble a well-oiled machine.

THE VILLA ENGINE IS REVVING AGAIN BABY!

(Too soon?)

I honestly think we have offers out there to the 1st choice targets right now and we're waiting to hear back from them on their decisions.  For example, Marcus Thuram still hasn't moved to another club yet even though he's been "close to signing" for half the clubs in Europe since the World Cup.
