There's supposedly an accusation that Checo crashed in Monaco on purpose to secure P3 in qualifying.

Ah ok, I didn’t realise those 2 snippets were linked.

So Max is saying it’s payback for something which made no difference to him in the scheme of things but he’s going to be a dick to him and the team anyway.

This is why nailing your colours to one particular mast at the exclusion of all else will wrap you in knots in F1. Being a fan of one driver shouldn't mean they can never ever do any wrong, and must be defended under all circumstances. You see it more in football (where geography is more of an issue) but it creeps in every now and again. Schumacher fans were like that back in the day.  Hell, even in this race Max behaved like an arse by not ceding the place to Checo, but was not in the wrong earlier when he was alongside Lewis at the esses and yes Lewis could have given him a car's width (I'm going with Brundle's judgement on that one). It's fine to call out both. Healthy even. It doesn't diminish your support of the driver and it doesn't give oxygen to your 'opponents' to acknowledge it the other way. Otherwise it's all a bit schoolyard. Anyhoo. That's my $0.02.

I saw the first corner incident several times and in my mind it was a “racing incident”. I thought it was harsh to punish either driver really, 6 of one and half a dozen of the other for me.

That was my view too. That it wasn't definitive enough to go either way, and the commentators were saying they'll probably do nothing but IF they do it'll be Lewis, and then it was Max and they were baffled. I thought it should have been filed under shit happens, move on, even though Lewis was more to blame. Ho hum.

Yeah I think Lewis should have left Max more room, but the incident was still avoidable if Max had been more evasive. I think it was harsh to give him a time penalty though. Both or neither for me.

But Max’ post race comments confirm this was a “I’m passing you or we’re crashing” incident.

Incredibly poor from Max, let's hope Checco gets the chance to exact revenge next year.

Obviously the Mercs had their engines turned up yesterday, just in time for the season to end.

Ferraris have disappeared up their own exhausts.

Well said BOF,

Lots of drivers manage to overtake each other at that corner but for some reason both Max and Lewis find it better to crash into each other rather than give a car width.

This seems to become his trademark move now. There were times last year that Hamilton had to back out because Max would have had no issues taking them both out if he didn't.

At least he's arrogant enough to now brag about it in interviews.

Again, showing everyone who he truly is.

I think he's currently my most hated person in world sport.

Verstappen, Pep, Brooklyn Nets and Blues are the ones I cheer with joy when anything goes badly for them.

This is where I'll push back in Max's defence. The "I'm passing or we're crashing" thing that I like to call 'heads I win, tails you lose', is sometimes a hallmark of the greats. An unsavoury hallmark yes, but a hallmark nonetheless.  Senna was absolutely like this and Schumacher too. Prost to an extent. It's the win at all costs thing. I don't think you can change that in them because it only comes out by instinct. It's who they are. But the other thing. The Checo thing. For a minor place with time to think ('reasons' notwithstanding), that was not cool. That may come back to bite him.

Britain's Oliver Bearman has been promoted to Formula 2 with none other than Prema.

He is 17. He won't be 18 until May. He'll be 17 racing for a top team in F2 :o

That happened Theo Pourchaire but he 'only' drove for ART.

Yeah but there's a difference in going for a gap and basically intentionally crashing, which given his post race comments is exactly what Max was doing.

Max has had smoke blown up his arse by Horner and others for years. Next big thing, up and coming GOAT etc, etc. As a result he believes it, and therefore believes everything he does is right. He's an entitled little shit who believes his own press and will continue to get into collisions not because he's the next Senna, but because he thinks he has the right to win. It's a product of his youth and rise to fame. By the time he grows up he's going to cringe at some of his own former antics.

This is what the grandstand over the Bellagio lake is going to look like in the Vegas GP next year.

In one way it's cool as ****.

In another way I hate absolutely everything about it

It’ll be cheaper to watch it out of a hotel room window, possibly.

I imagine those hotels will know exactly how easy it will be to watch the race from each room and will price accordingly, but yes you may be right, it may be a teency bit cheaper than sitting trackside.

I've stayed high up in the Cosmo before (in the background of that picture), and it was pretty reasonable as far as hotel suites go. Hotels in Vegas are cheaper than you'd think as they just want yo in the door to spend money in the casinos etc

The view of the track from our balcony would have been absolutely spectacular.

I imagine those prices will be absolutely eclipsed by how high the prices will be during the GP weekend
