What's the greatest ever starting XI in a cup final?

Milan 1991 European Cup Final

Barcelona 2011 CL Final

Real Madrid 2014/16/17/18 were all pretty similar lineups

Both the 2006 World Cup starting XIs were incredible.

Milan 2005 hands down. More incredible they didnt win

The barca one vs man utd at wembley, blew them away, although to be fair to pep from memory the one in Rome he tweaked it from how it looked on a paper and played etoo on the right and Messi up top most of the game and utd had no answer for it

Edit - when you throw in that they brought fabregas and torres off the bench the Spanish world cup winning team is a bit special, maybe capdevilla stops it from being a perfect 11 though but that midfield is something else, busquets, alonso, xavi and iniesta, 3 of the best midfielders of all time and xabi alonso 😉 with then like I said fabregas off the bench, mata and silva unused subs, that's pretty insane

Red Star Belgrade - 1991.

Insane talent in that team. Back at the end of the era where an eastern bloc team could upset the applecart.

Some of the AC Milan line ups from the early 90's were excellent as well.

Sky did a show on them years back that was a good watch, think it was part of a series on all the champions league winners, that yugoslavia team could have been something special

Edit - think it was this

Yes you're right, forgot how good that team was. The back 4 especially - Maldini, Nesta, Stam, Cafu!

Milan 90 back four - Tassotti, Baresi, Costacurta and Maldini

They'd lost their star midfielder a year earlier, Dragan Stojkovic, to Marseille. Yet, they still put out a midfield four of Prosinecki, Jugovic, Mihajlovic and Savicevic!

Pancev up front, who never really performed at Inter, but was deadly at Red Star.

The actual 91 final was garbage though! 0-0 and won on penalties.

But yeah you are right, the Yugoslavia team would have been some team if the war hadn't have happened. You also had Mijatovic at Partizan, and Sukur, Boban and Jarni at Zagreb and Split respectively.

FourFourTwo wrote a good article about it a few months back. They’re convinced they would have won Euro 92 and would have given the World Cup a shake if they didn’t split up.

Milan 89 & 90. You could make a strong argument they were the best club side ever, the star players (Baresi, Maldini, Gullit, Rijkaard, Van Basten) speak for themselves, but they retained the European Cup which is really hard to do, and the 1989 team smashed Real Madrid 5-0 in the semi and Steaua Bucharest 4-0 in the final. Steaua were a bloody good team too, lots of those Eastern Bloc teams knew how to play, Steaua were Champions of Europe in 86, and semi finalists in 88 but they couldn’t live with Milan.
