My friend was there as he was one of the police officers who had to police these animals. Police were stating what stupidity it is to have this at at 5.30pm on a Saturday with the bad blood between the fans.

anyway blose fans were mouthing off, millwall fans of course reacted more aggressively as they do and police were getting pushed around mainly by the millwall fans while they tried separating the fans. Not sure how you can call police "thugs" @Rugeley Villa ?

Because some are. Have you seen the video from last season where the police are hitting innocent blues fans over the head with their batons at Wolverhampton train station.

I think they should be praised for that :P

The papers were saying 'Riots' it was nothing of the sort hence why my original post said it's been reported worse than it was and the police were heavy handed.

Which is fine, the papers make the most of things for obvious reasons, I don’t think anyone questioned that part of your post.

It was the fact you were blaming the Police and implying nothing happened to warrant Police intervention.

Intervention yes, but going by accounts I've read it was well OTT. Police storming in at the end on horses when there was nothing happening. Either way it's all heat say whatever side you are on unless you was actually there. I just think some of the police are utter clearings in the woods.

What accounts? I asked previously but it went unanswered.

Some Police may well be but I’m struggling with your conclusions on this one especially given the two sets of fans involved.

Blues fans. The thing is that they have surrounded a mob of fans in London Bridge which were I assume getting rowdy. I'm not sure if these were fans involved in violence at blues games, or  are just your normal pissed up lads on an away game. Now if you want to have a go at millwall you don't go to London Bridge because you get wrapped up by the police and that's that. I have no doubt that was their intention to go London Bridge shout a few things then have the police look after them and escort them the ground. From what I've heard off blues fans is that it's after the game where it turned ugly and dangerous and it was the old bills doing. I know what we all think of blues fans, but most are just there for the football and from my experience the police are very heavy handed at football games.

Im struggling to accept somebody who got banned from Villa Park for fighting is going to be impartial when it comes to opinions regarding law enforcement.

So because I'm banned and because I've had run ins with the police since I was 17 you think I'm being biased. Mate some of the police are absolute scum bags who should be doing time themselves. I'll admit I'm not the biggest fan of the police in certain situations, but I'm far from anti authority.

I’m not being funny but with teams like Millwall and Blues the reputation of their fans is going to go against them.

If I was a policeman and with the knowledge of previous games between them I wouldn’t be taking any chances when fans start acting like idiots either.

The police don’t just get involved for the sake of it. If I was a fan of one of these teams I wouldn’t go around looking like causing trouble as it’s inevitable what will happen.

I understand the police presence for these two, especially as blues took a big following with them. The police do get involved for the sake of it, trust me.

Given that the two clubs have some of the worst-behaved fans in the country (along with Cardiff and Leeds IME) I'm not going to spill any tears for them.

We've had trouble with Cardiff every game going back to the league cup game a few years back. Millwall will bring a big following with them when they play us and they will play up. For their reputation it's not been too bad with Leeds over the years since I've been going the football. I've heard the horrible stories off older fans though about trips to elland road in the 70s and 80s.

Well, yes I’d say he does.

You have just pretty much said so too.

Essentially, you are taking as gospel the word of Small Heath fans on the incident, in part because of your predetermined view on ‘some’ Police. This despite anything even remotely close to corroborating evidence, despite people there probably being a few hundred camera phones in the vacinity, to support what those with a vested interest are saying.

Sorry mate, this is both foolish and smacks of bias.

I await with interest public and media outcry about the Police charging on horses into an innocent crowd. I wonder if they will do a page spread with the story about them finding Lord Lucan working at Wilko’s following a sex change under the name Doris.

I respect their authority and nowadays try and stick to the law as best as I can, but I've had a few bad experiences over the years with them. Of course that's going to influence my judgement like it would do anyone.
