Should have just done what everyone assumed and joined the Lib Dems. Did terrible in the European Elections and not going to change politics. Chindie Posted June 4, 2019 VT Supporter Share Posted June 4, 2019 Half of the Independent Group are now just a bunch of independents. I imagine they'll be tickling the Lib Dems bollocks as we speak. It's unfortunate, Change UK, the not party they loved intensely for 4 months, left them. But they've stood up for their values and actually, you know, done something. Politics is broken.

The thing(s) that caused them to leave their old parties are still there. Brexity throbbing, anti-semitism etc. It's not really a surprise that a bunch of centristy MPs and some more right wingy ones don't share a similar outlook on other stuff. Their values are not really common to them all. And tbf, almost no-one forsaw that the LDs would come back to life when they set up their initial TIG. peterms
I expect it was a disagreement over policy. Should we have some? Shouldn't we? What to do?

ml1dch
Given that the likely result of this is a further strengthening of an already buoyant Lib Dems, I wonder whether the glee being shown by both left and right at this development might not end up looking a tad hubristic. Chindie Posted July 10, 2019 VT Supporter Share Posted July 10, 2019 The 4 remaining former CUKTIG MPs who deserted it once it died on its arse having never got up have more formed 'The Independents', a co-op of independent MPs that totally isn't a party and totally isn't CUKTIG. They've been joined by a former Labour MP who did his best Assange and ran rather than get investigated. You'd get short odds on another split within 4 months again.
