That crash is so bad, could easily of been a stand of spectators she was hitting at a different track as easily cleared the catch fence.

I am amazed no one has died, look at 30 seconds in there is a marshal lying on the floor under where the car is falling. I think I read 5 people were hospotialised but I am not sure how badly injured, i know the driver has spinal damage.

That marshall is lying on the floor because he/she was sent flying over there by the metal pole in the fence when the car hit.(watch closely at 14/15 seconds, they are stood with their back to the track & turns around just in time to be smashed by the metal pole which knocks them over) Presumably they were out cold when the car landed on them and are VERY lucky to be alive

Driver had a spinal fracture. I think Marshalls were only minor injuries. One photographer had a facial fracture and lacerations and one had a lacerated liver.

But apparently all expected to fully recover.

Its genuinely amazing nobody died there. Touch wood no complications.

Edit: apologies it was the Marshall with facial injuries and fracture. Presumably the one pictured. The first photographer had a concussion.

I'd love to know what happened further back because they were coming into a low speed corner and she had scrubbed nothing through braking. Hopefully, there's a parts failure or else someone's career should be in question.

I've seen a couple of other angles and she clips another car, spins and then hits the kerb travelling backwards. I don't know much about aerodynamics but I guess cars designed to produce great downforce going forward produce the opposite effect in reverse?

This seems to be the best view from the other side. Shows her hurtling backwards down the track at speed long before hitting the car that sends her flying through the air. Apparently caused by a marshall briefly waving a yellow (incorrectly) which made the car in front of her brake, she hit it, span and flew backwards down the track.

Seems it was shortly after a safety car but she was going at least 100mph too fast for that corner when she took off. Something must have gone wrong somewhere

i think she lost 2 wheels in the initial impact (i would guess not having wheels makes breaking a struggle 😉)

Not F1, but an absolutely horrendous crash at the F3 in Macau this weekend.

Apparently the driver (a 17 year old girl) is conscious as are some photographers and Marshalls who were caught up in it.

Its a scary one though

From that angle how f**king blessed is Sho Tsuboi not to have been decapitated as she launched off his car.  Fookin' 'ell.  People are rightly saying how mental it is that halo isn't yet mandatory in F3.  I suspect it will be from here on in.

Yeah I hadn't noticed that at all from the other angles. I think he had to go to hospital with "a sore neck".

I'd take that in the circumstances!

I think I read that the halo is mandatory in all FIA open cockpit racing from 2020.

And guess who was the one driver I wanted to see, given his redonkulous record in this season's All-Japan F3 championship ???

Exactly.

More and more reports doing the rounds now amongst reputable sources that Robert Kubica to Williams is a done deal :D:clap:

Confirmed. Amazing news. I mean, at Williams presumably he's going to be trundling round the back end, but nevertheless, to come back into F1 after 8 years with only one fully functioning hand is crazy

I don't think it's a given that they'll be trundling around at the back.  For a start the drivers alone are a massive upgrade so they'd probably have made a better fist of this season than the current lot.  Add in the rule changes which can always shake things up.  Then the intangible motivation back at Grove by just having these 2 drivers on board could be worth 10%.  The problem is the grid looks good next season.  Even Sauber are getting Kimi on board.  STR are the obvious target, and I don't particularly rate Kvyat.  We'll see who else comes on board.  Either Albon or Ticktum would be the hope, rather than regurgitating another failure.

Really hope this isn't the last we see of Alonso in F1 after this weekend, my favourite driver and the last few years for him have been so disappointing.

Crazy that he never added to his 2 World Championships.

There's a great article on the BBC about Alonso. It's in 4 parts and well worth a read.
