so the one s presentation said from $299, so you'd expect a uk price point of £249.

but no, you can now pre order it on xbox store for £349.

Yeah but we have the NHS and stuff so they have to charge more over here.

As others have mentioned the 500gb version will be $299/£249

US price for the 2TB model is $399.99 + sales tax (usualyl another 10% or so but can be higher/lower depending where you are)

Sales tax varies by state in the US and then an individual city can add a levy too, which is why prices are listed before tax as it's impossible to come up with a single price for the entire country.   Taxes are much lower though, typically between 6-10% of the retail price, five states (Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, Oregon) charge zero sales tax.   I think manufacturers margins are generally lower in the US than they are in Europe, but because the US is such a massive marketplace (it's a very affluent nation with a population of 320 million people) then business makes it's money on high volumes of sales.

Agreed. One thing is for sure though, if the dollars and pounds price is the same figure we are definitely being ripped off no matter what factors you take into account.

Phil Spencer was on Giant Bomb the other night being interviewed about Xbox's E3 and clarified the position on Scorpio. Bottom line, it seems th is is totally a marketing muddle.

The Scorpio is designed with 4k in mind, but it doesn't mean you can only benefit if you have 4k. Developers are also at liberty to use it's power how they like, they don't have to hit 4k. Games do have to work across the Xbox family however (what that means on reality though, open to interpretation - this year they're releasing games that have a feature that original Xbox One owners can't use - HDR). Scorpio is also built with VR mind. Scorpio might make some existing games work a little better but that's not really what its for and isn't something they've designed it for.

It's a decent interview and you can see him kinda struggle with the marketing position initially. He's a really interesting presence and he's not like any other suit. He's pretty honest and straight and he seems very genuine. Worth a watch.

They should just say: 'Guys, you know how PC gaming has worked for donkeys years? Consoles are like that now.'

Theyll not hit mass market with that message but the confusion amongst people who should know better is palpable.

Gamecentral did an interview at E3 recently with Hideki Kamiya of Platinum Games. They haven't put up the full interview yet, but the bit they have makes mighty interesting reading - reference to both Bayonetta 3 and Okami 2. I really hope they appear on non-Nintendo consoles.

They also did an interview themselves with Phil Spencer with is intersting and makes his stand on the XBONE S and Scorpio pretty black and white.

You have to allow for our vastly better consumer protection though. That doesn't come free.

Pretty much. That's the only way it can work.

But it's not a good marketing message for a soundbite...

not as simple as that though is it, Minimum wage in many us states is only $7.25 p/h so if someone on min wage in Texas for example wanted to buy the 2tb slim they would have to work for 60 hours to earn enough money ($399.99 +8.25% tax / $7.25) where in the UK someone on the minimum wage of £7.20 p/h would only have to work for 48 hours to afford the £349.99.

Sure the Uk price is more if you do a straight conversion of $/£ but there is more than that to it

We won't truly get the full idea of what Scorpio is and what it's meant to be until it's so close to being out they no longer care about derailing Xbox One S.

Currently Shannon Loftis at Microsoft has said Xbox Scorpio will have exclusives. Aaron Greenberg came out to shut that down as obviously that kind of talk is not going to sell Xbox One S consoles over the next 17 months.

Personally I am on the side of so many enthusiasts in this industry that can't see how Scorpio won't have exclusives. Scorpio is 5x more powerful than Xbox One S that is a huge disparity if developers don't decide to make their game 4K. If they do then good for Xbox One S as the game on Scorpio will likely have similar visuals to games on that platform because 4K is that damn hard to run. We have already seen what developers can achieve with a 1.2 TeraFLOP system like the Xbox One, I just don't think an exclusive game will be easy to scale back when they have it completely designed around the 6 TeraFLOP box.
