The now-enacted will of (some of) the people

Social media has become a breeding ground for those 'bloke down the pub' style stories designed to outrage and poke at hot button topics, which is what the Russians have been doing. Those kind of 'came over here and got given a mansion cus he's Muslim innit?' style stories, the kind of thing the Sun thrived on for donkeys years. They work - the story is simple, it hooks in and the story never dies - there's still daft stories about the EU that get rattled out that have been debunked over and over. Now those stories and little comments can get to a vast audience at a click.

Brilliantly explained.

It's like the Tribal Knowledge Paradox Paradox.  Instead of a group of people having great knowledge and skills that are hindered by the systems and processes of an organisation, the systems are slick AF and the "people" are idiots.

Snappy headlines have always been good at validating people's confirmation bias.

The difference between conventional media and social media is that there's an endless supply of it within the social media sphere.

David Davis is currently talking in Berlin and seemingly going down like a lead balloon. Still seems to be towing the line that Germany will ride to Britain's salvation and force the EU to give us the mega deal the government wants.

But the Germans, and everyone else, has said again and again and again that is not going to happen, and that they value the EU more than they value Britain.

Deluded fool.

Brilliantly he also basically used a Remain argument, saying Germany shouldn't put politics ahead of trade.

Good on him I say. I had no idea that his deutsche Sprache was good enough to do that.

(I assume of course that he hasn't just turned up and shouted loudly at the foreigners in English like a massive, blotchy stereotype?)

'Elision' is the process by which speakers sometimes choose to omit words. In this case, two possessive pronouns have been elided, and the re-insertion of them makes clear both Davis' message and the reason why no audience of foreign politicians would ever be impressed:

'Dont put [...] politics before [...] prosperity'

It’s your and your right? Admittedly not great fodder for an audience of politicians but something that may certainly resonate with the rising tide of anti EU sentiment amongst the proles of Europe!

Davis is now whinging about the EU not making compromises when we are.

He appears to be under the impression he's in a negotiation between equals. When actually we're begging for scraps from a club we've asked to leave against all sense.

Whilst we listen to Davis talking to Kuenssberg, take note of the content and tone of this article in the ToryunlessyouareaBrexitmutineergraph:

David Davis fails to convince German business leaders over Brexit free trade deal

Quote

David Davis met with a hostile reception in Berlin on Thursday night as he attempted to win the support of German business leaders for a comprehensive free trade deal in Brexit talks.

Mr Davis’ attempt to court German industry appeared to have backfired as his speech was greeted with incredulous laughter.

The Brexit minister flew into Berlin amid concerns that the European Union is set to offer Britain a stark choice of a limited Canada-style free trade agreement or signing up to free movement.

In a speech to an elite gathering of German business leaders, Mr Davis said Brexit made it “more important than ever that the United Kingdom and Germany work together to protect the values and interests we share”.

But he was met with derision and disbelief. Heads of multi-billion pound companies shook their heads and muttered angrily as Mr Davis fumbled for answers under questioning.

...more behind paywall

I read it as 'your' and 'our' but then again my opinion of Davis is rock bottom.

'Your' and 'our' is correct IMO.

Nice to see Boris have a clanger again. His Irish counterpart pretty much immediately slammed his comments whilst stood next to him earlier on the nature of Brexit negotiations and the border.

That border... How anyone in this government reckons they can have no physical border whilst also being out of the single market and customs union, I'm unsure. And the Irish don't buy it either. And nor should they.

And Varadkar has said today that Ireland will veto any movement to the next phase of talks unless the Government gives a guarantee there will be no border across the island.

So EEA membership or border between Ireland and the British mainland.

So bye-bye Government.

The border is easily solvable. It's just all the solutions piss off someone involved to some degree. One of them will eventually climb down.

Brexit will happen. The argument is only to what degree. Currently, and increasingly, the answer to that is the terrible result that's very easy to achieve. It's the default one. We crash out in 2019.
