My word. This video says a lot.

It is like the country is oblivious to the fact that the main reason of all the problems in this country are actually down to the Conservative Party and government. They can do no wrong apparently.

PMQ’s is not fit for purpose if the PM is just going to respond with unrelated and often incorrect statements that bear no relation to the question he was asked.

Absolute waste of time. Listened for 5 minutes and all Johnson does it respond to every question with inane nonsense. Wish he could actually be called out for the lies but all that happens is the MP gets kicked instead. Pointless.

I assume this is on the speaker to halt the PM and ask him to respond to the question he is being asked.

Also, should Starmer not be making more of a fuss about this constant side stepping? I would be.

I think they only get a certain number of questions/allotted time and may want to actually get the questions out. I also think (not certain though) that the questions are given ahead of time so they can prepare responses accordingly.

To be honest I would be tempted to ask him about is alleged children given the parliamentary privilege and just watch Johnson's reaction.

Yup. Hoyle is unwilling or unable to find the backbone to support parliament holding the government to account. Seems quite happy to snooze through, not rocking the boat, with one eye on a lordship at the end of his stint.

Bercow was a divisive individual, and there are some good arguments about him going beyond his remit, not to mention the bullying, but he was a fantastic speaker in the context of moderating debate in the chamber. Hoyle's not fit to be Speaker.

Hoyle is more in line with the classic pre-Bercow approach to the Speaker role.

While I enjoyed watching Bercow go after the government, in the end he just made himself a useful tabloid villain who could be blamed by Tory media and outriders for blocking Brexit and cosying up with Labour.

Think we need a happy medium. A speaker who tries to reform and modernise parliamentary procedure, forces debates to remain on topic, but stays above the fray. Not the easiest job, but Hoyle could be doing it better.

Feels like the dial might be shifting. The tory mouthpieces have no answer to the facts that a) the railways take public money in subsidies and b) the enormous shareholder dividends distributed, even in 2020

As an aside, I hate how the UK / West / World is socialist when it comes to propping up private business when they need help, but capitalist when it comes to supporting individual poor people when they do. Either be capitalist, and let private businesses fail when the market determines, or socialist, but be consistent please.

Making moves to allow top level bankers to have even bigger bonuses whilst simultaneously stamping down on the workers that keep the whole shebang going is classic, classic Tory.

Keir Starmer asked BJ about this and the response was about Labour front benchers voting to scrap Trident.

May as well replace the word removed with a tape recorder full of lies and a shuffle button.

A bit of a greatest hits

We could probably do with more Mick Lynchs.

Hilarious how he’s just ripped through two decades of media orthodoxy on how to handle TV political debates. They all look shellshocked

Quote

Rail union workers striking this week are "Putin's friends", Tobias Ellwood has claimed.

The senior Tory MP said that the disruption caused by this week's industrial action, the biggest on Britain's rail network for 30 years, was distracting the Government from the war in Ukraine, a fact the Russian president would be "enjoying".

Speaking to Sky News, Mr Ellwood said: "We face huge economic headwinds yet here we are causing such huge self-harm as the country is brought to a halt.

"I think Russia must be enjoying this self-inflicted distraction, pleased to see that the one government in Europe that is actually standing up to Putin is completely distracted in this way.

"I do hope the unions now call off future planned strikes ... this isn’t just disrupting commuters, including key workers, but students as well and indeed the hospitality sector."

He added: "It’s also Armed Forces weekend this Saturday and that’s where we say thank you to those who serve and have served.

"I say to the unions ‘please don’t be Putin’s friend - return to the talks today so we can get the country moving again’."
