Avfc96 Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28401056 About time. Haven't quoted anything as the article is very short.
Popular Post The_Rev Posted July 21, 2014 Popular Post Posted July 21, 2014 Good. Should have happened years ago. Gerrard is a massively talented player but he isn't a team player, his constant walkabouts and "hollywood" passes don't make up for the occasional screamer he scores. The fact that Paul Scholes was moved out on to the wing to accommodate Stevie Mee remains a travesty. 18
Avfc96 Posted July 21, 2014 Author Posted July 21, 2014 Gerrard has been mostly woeful for England, if Scholes had played in the middle instead of Stevie Me then England would have been much better as a team.
The_Steve Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Goodbye self-defence Stevie, you didn't have the legs at international level for years. Glad you've finally stepped aside.
Voinjama Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Steven Gerrard has been a great servant and deserves every single one of his caps. But it is definitely the right time for him to step aside and let someone like Wilshere or whoever take his place. Steven Gerrard is a team player always encouraging other players and helping them. It is the fact that he is a team player which is why he tries so hard to do everything for the team. 4
will87 Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Roy I beg you, for the love of God, please don't give 'Wazza' the captaincy. 1
Voinjama Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Ungrateful ****** .Alwayd did his best for the 3 Lions, and had 3 good tournaments. How many good tournaments has Rooney or Lampard had? snm
rodders0223 Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 There is a reason Liverpool didn't win the title and that is that they conceded too many goals, there is a reason Liverpool conceded too many goals, and that is the fact that had Stevie Me 'playing' defensive midfield. Was a cracking player, legs have gone, cant get around the pitch and doesn't have the vast array of passing or intelligence that Pirlo does. Good ****ing riddance, no time for Johnson to follow him.

Oaks Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 I said before the tournament that Gerrard was a liability in that role, unfortunaly I was proved correct. He's always struggled in centre midfield, hence his best seasons at Liverpool was behind the striker or wide right. His performances last season was covered up by penalties and set play assists. I actually found it amusing some people calling for him to be crowned player of the season. He's been a very good player for Liverpool, but he's never been world class. It's good England can finally move on from these players who have never worked. Maybe we can find a team rather than a bunch of big personalities.
Voinjama Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 (edited) Euro 2000, World Cup 2010 and world cup 2006. Edited July 21, 2014 by Voinjama

My facourite was Euro 2004 the one where we battered France for 90 minutes and Stevie Me played a blind ball back to James in goal
sharkyvilla Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Not surprising. Hodgson was lucky Suarez bit someone and took the attention off how shit we are, he should be gone as well.
rodders0223 Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Euro 2000, World Cup 2010 and world cup 2006. Scored a great penalty in 2006 against Portugal and was brilliant when Germany dicked all over us in 2010.

Well the assists and goals don't matter if you can't do it when it counts Only losers would qualify any major tournament he entered as successful, and the notion he performed for us even remotely when it mattered is laughable, Over 100 caps, amazing.
