Ingram85
I've found a few places in France (Agay nr Nice is leading the way) but I'm struggling for inspiration really. Anyone recommend some lovely, beautiful chilled out places by the sea that aren't going to break the bank? Cheers.

Tayls
Oh and sensible answers only. No slough, Kabul or Yemen's. I'm looking at you chrisp! How about Lake Garda in Italy? Close to Verona and not too far away from Florence if you fancy some day trips to a city. (About 2.5hrs away). Lake Garda isn't particularly close to the sea but Venice is a couple of hours away. tonyh29
Monaco maybe , just not during GP week and maybe it depends on how you define Cheap saying that a return flight London to Nice is around £80 , the bus transfer from Nice to Monaco was about €20 return hotels may be the sticking point when it comes to cheap , but have a look on bookings.com or something went there in Feb with MrsH29 , sun was out , people were even swimming in the sea !! .. we walked around the castles and gardens , chilled out in the spa area of the pool , went in the main casino (and walked out again 4 minutes later is it's more like a church rather than Vegas ..we got free entry with our hotel but otherwise you have to pay and it really isn't worth it ) but there is another one for the plebs next door where you can have a bit of fun waste €20's in the slots and then sit outside drinking coffee watching the posers drive by in their posh cars ... then you walk down the harbour and decide which yacht you'd own should you happen to find £300m down the back of your sofa lots of nice restaurants along the front , prices weren't excessive surprisingly other than that I'd kinda echo the Italy suggestion , not sure about beaches in Venice , you can head over to the lido beach but I've not done it so no idea how good it is ... Lake Garda with a hint of Florence is a good suggestion ( I really liked Florence ) Tuscany does have some beaches but Viareggio is about 60 miles if I recall so hardly just around the corner Edited April 2, 2014 by tonyh29

chrisp65
There's a hotel down Torquay called The Grand - and once upon a time it probably was, out the rear it has a spiral art deco car park so was clearly a big deal back in the day. But in all honesty, it has a sort of faded grandeur, the rooms are large with sea views, it has a bar and a restaurant and you can do the walk along the prom. But at the end of the day it is a big old, slightly creaky, affordable, friendly place. We've stayed there a few times. It's not new, the edges aren't crisp, but it's really clean friendly. I can see how you could make that a really romantic old school British weekend - It's easy distance from there to Paignton Zoo and / or Dartmoor. Could be fun. I'll keep my ideas on Yemen to myself then!
AVTuco Posted May 1, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted May 1, 2014 A bit disappointed with the answers in this thread. I expected a lot more imagination, the title gave ample room for it.
Danwichmann
Anything around Nice / Monaco is not cheap. May be cheap to get there but not once you arrive. Very nice though so possibly worth a few extra euros.

choffer Posted May 6, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted May 6, 2014 Cap d'Agde. Particularly the far end of the beach/town. Very romantic from what I've heard.

Adam_
Went to Venice last month, nice there and there is a waterbus that goes to Venice Lido island which has a 7 mile long beach. Only cost me about £400 for 2 people including flights & accomodation.
