Maybe swap Lampard/Gerrard/Carrick & Wilshere/Milner around I dunno. We don't really have any decent midfielders

Where's the respect for Jay Rodriguez?

Foster

Walker

Cahill

Jagielka

Baines

Wilshire

Oxlade-Chamberlain

Lallana

Milner

Rodriguez

Lambert

None of this seems serious, but assuming it is, you'd have Ben foster in net?

what other options are there other than Hart?

I was actually just clarifying between foster and Forster for that part, should've said that.

I wonder if Gabby gets in the team if Walcott isn't fit by then.

  :crylaugh:

You weren't being serious were you? It would be against rule 1 of Hodgson's list of prehistoric football management rules - never pick any Villa players.

Balll retention is going to be very important out there in the heat so having someone who can slow things down and calm will be important. I'd play fat Baz. He keeps the ball well, Gerrard likes playing along side him, he can sit in front of the back four and let the other midfielders get forward.

----------------Hart

Walker, Cahill, Terry, Baines

--------Carrick, Wilshere

------------Gerrard

Walcott--------------------Ox

--------------Rooney

Subs (the ones that get used regularly):
Sturridge

Lallana

Rodriguez

Wellbeck (wide attack where he's actually half decent)

Townsend

Jagielka

Cole

I know Terry is a controversial choice. But despite the fact he's a monumental arsehole, he's still a very good defender, and I think Cahill and Terry playing together at their club would benefit us.

This is actually hard. It's eye opening how poor the quality of our squad is right now. I've always tried create a team of young players when times are bad, use the german model to write off a couple of tournaments to create a great squad for the future.. but right now the quality isn't really there. Lallana and Rodriguez deserve to go. But there will be players like Cleverley and Welbeck on that plane, who are just not good enough.

My biggest concern is holding midfield. I think we could create a pretty good diamond formation with Rooney in behind Sturridge. Who could be the anchor though? We've already seen Gerrard can't do it. Maybe Phil Jones? Milner? Delph?

------------------ Hart ---------------

Walker - Jagielka - Cahill - Baines

-------[holding?--- [holding?] -------

Oxlade -------------------- Lallana

----------- Rooney----------------

----------------- Sturridge----------

On the subject of Terry - he has retired from international football, but that was after falling out with Bernstein, who is no longer there. He may be convinced to come back, and I agree that his partnership with Cahill at the moment is fantastic, and worth looking into.
