villarule123 Posted October 4, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted October 4, 2013 Anyone played the beta? Got it downloading now, hope it lives up to the hype!
Davkaus
I'm just downloading it now, haven't played BF3 since a couple of months after release, so preparing to get stomped. Which server are you playing on?
PieFacE Posted October 4, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted October 4, 2013 Yeah been playing it on PC for past few days. Definite improvement on BF3. Current-gen will be a bit shite though. But it's great on PC... will be on next-gen too.
Kwan
Agreed. Played this on the ps3 a little bit. Quite obviously a next gen game
Davkaus
I'm pleasantly surprised by the PC version. There's some performance issues, but the beta is apparently a several versions old client that's not optimised yet, so not too worried about that. I enjoyed playing last night and this morning so much that I went to preorder, to see that the Origin version for some reason costs £45, when it's £30 to order in stores. EA really don't get this idea of a digital store, do they? Buy the version that requires no shipping, no shops, no disks and manuals and case to be produced, and pay an extra 50%. The ****? There's also the 'premium' upgrade, which is already available to order for an additional £40. Total cost for the game from Origin, £85, and that's without the digital deluxe edition (not to be confused with premium) for an extra £10. lapal_fan
the PS3 beta is a bit pants, definitely not buying it on this gen, regardless of upgrading for another ten quid. The auto-aim is very strong and head shots I think do too much damage. It's got potential, but on current gen it's horrible. when the building collapses, it goes down to about 10 frames per second, it's mental. P3te
head shots I think do too much damage. the whole point of headshots is one shot kills
lapal_fan
No, it really isn't. It hasn't been in any BF apart from with sniper (recon) rifles. I've been 1 shotted with a pistol from a considerable distance, with 100 health. In all the previous games the damage model has been 2.0x damage for a head shot. With an average damage model of 12.5 per shot for a pistol, 25 per shot with assault rifles/carbines at optimum distance and 33 per shot for guns which use the 7.62 NATO rounds, it should take at least 2 bullets to kill minimum. So, you're wrong. The reason I know about the 1 shot pistol death was because a friend of mine had run out of bullets in his primary and was down to his last 3 bullets in his pistol, he missed 2 shots and clocked me with the third. Davkaus
Commander mode, and scripted building demolition, that's about it.
PieFacE Posted October 13, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted October 13, 2013 (edited) Building demolition isn't scripted I don't think? I'm pretty sure you can knock the skyscraper down whenever you like or not at all. . Its loads better than BF3. There's so much more focus on teamwork, squads of 5's are so much better. The lack of suppression is loads better. Also i'm finding the vehicles a lot better. I'm playing on PC, play it on medium settings and it runs at 60-80FPS. Absolutely loving it. The full game is going to be epic. When you actually get a squad of 5 together who all follow commands it's really good fun. A little bit of teamwork goes a long way. With next-gen consoles being able to play this game at 60FPS, console gamers are about to feel what Battlefield is all about! 64 player carnage. It's gunna be fun! villarule123 Posted October 13, 2013 Author VT Supporter Share Posted October 13, 2013 I'm sure I read it was going to be 30FPS on the new consoles.
Sie
Its 720p at 60fps on PS4. Watchdogs however is said to be 30fps on PS4. The game itself is definitely an improvement over BF3. The verticality of the beta map is pretty spectacular and the improved player animations and overall feel of the controls makes everything you do feel very responsive, intense and cinematic. Cliffy Biro
3 and the 4 beta are ok but it still doesn't feel the same as bf2, that game was so much fun online
PieFacE Posted October 14, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted October 14, 2013 I never played BF2 but everyone seems to refer to it as the greatest game ever. Was it really that good? Or was it just the time it was out? I feel that way about Halo2, no Halo has compared to it since, but if I were to play it now it wouldn't feel that good at all, it was just ahead of it's time really. Next-gen consoles are definitely 60fps.
villarule123 Posted October 14, 2013 Author VT Supporter Share Posted October 14, 2013 I'd much rather they focused on 60 fps than making sure it's 1080p Smoother game play is more important than how shiny a game is, and it's not like the graphics will be bad anyway
