I started unemployed and got the job as West Ham boss. They were bottom, managed to get them up to 15th by beating Man City and Chelsea (Carroll is crap though). And then lost my last 5 games, got relegated on the last day and sacked.

Does anyone have any tips on how to make a lasting save? I get bored far too easily, rarely making it past Christmas in the first season. I must have about 10 different saves so far.

I think in terms of finance, the Jermaine Jenas loan deal was pretty poor. Can we include managers in this? Paying 'them' for McLeish only to give him a massive payoff after him being sacked surely is the worst one of them all?

After messing around I decided to start from the very bottom (sort of) with Kidderminster Harriers. Anthony Malbon, Nathan Blissett and Michael Gash and scoring at least 3 a game between them and I'm 5 points clear at the top. Very good so far.

I started with Villa this morning. Benteke got injured in the first game of the season and I lost 4-1. This is difficult, but I think it's fantastic so far. Much improved than last year, but £0 budget!

Offtopic sort of from this, but former academy guy Ethan Moore has just been released by Worcester City. If you read the statement, it seems he hardly turned up for training.

The only problem I'd have with Ince is that he would eventually travel that well trodden path towards Liverpool. It's fairly well known they want him back, isn't it?

David Villa signs for Atletico for £4.4m (bargain!) so surely means they won't try for Benteke?!

I agree with the post. Saturday was a great game because it was that feel good factor back at Villa Park, a sense we'd bought unknown talents and they'd done well. The only time I'd allow a rich owner in is if they provided this 'legacy' that we want from the Olympics. A chance for the youth of the area (particularly of B6) to get involved with the club a little more. New youth facilities actually in the area rather than rural Staffordshire that means we can provide the opportunity disadvantaged kids that want to play football. This is surely better for the future than buying expensive 'I'm getting paid so I don't care' players.

I agree with villabromsgrove. While having money is important, I'd rather succeed with young, hungry talent rather than overpaid 'wellknown' players. However, it would be nice seeing Villa climb up a bit, which having Sheikh whoever would do.

It is interesting how many people have picked Guzan ahead of Given now. 12 months ago it would have been a different story.

I'm buying my first ST for the upcoming season. Before McLeish got sacked. Even if he didn't, I'd still support the club. It's childish, but I still get that same buzz of entering Villa Park that I did the first time. I love every moment of my visits (apart from the car park queues at the end).

Gabby was lazy. Heskey was our best defender, Hutton should stay in right back, O'Neill should come back.
