  1. Yeh slightly clumsy perhaps, but 4/5 of all violence is committed by men, and that portion is even higher for sexual offences. There's societal reasons for that (patriarchy, misogyny, etc) but facts are facts. And it's why cis women are so protective over 'female only spaces' - it's because of the behaviour of cis men, not trans men
  2. Great post GeorgeVilla82, thanks for sharing. I had a couple of comments based on my layman's understanding of trans rights issues "Cis" & "Trans" both come from Latin. Cis is the preposition "on this side of". We use other prepositions all the time without controversy, for example, heterosexual vs. homosexual. Unfortunately a lot of the same arguments people are now saying about using the term 'cisgender' to describe a person whose gender identity corresponds with the sex registered for them at birth, homophobes back in the day were saying about using the term 'homosexual' when there was more moral panic about gay people. I think most people would agree common usage of the term 'heterosexual' today hasn't impacted the rights of straight people. Another point I wanted to add which I'm sure has been discussed, is the fact that trans people are around four times as likely to be assaulted than their cis counterparts. I think it's worth remembering this when we talk about safety (the problem is men not trans people).
  3. Am happy to see the likes of Ings and Sanson sold and their wages off the books. Yes we are slightly weakened in the short term (not by much at all in my view), but the squad was bloated and now we're in a better position to improve the squad in the summer. Plus it could give opportunities to younger players in the squad who will benefit from first team exposure. No danger of relegation, outside chance of Europe. Not worth throwing the kitchen sink now if the options don't fit the vision.
  4. This one has really struck a nerve for me. Can it get any lower than allowing children to be kidnapped through total negligence and cruelty? Like, there must be Christian Ministers right now trying to do the mental gymnastics that somehow it's not that bad, or it's somehow not the Government's responsibility. Sunak's response when questioned on it yesterday was to suggest it was the (Labour) council's fault. This meme, every time:
  5. 200 extremely vulnerable kids missing from temporary accommodation in Brighton, presumed abducted by criminal gangs, although no-one knows. Ignoring for a moment how morally disgraceful it is that our state has been so negligent in the care of vulnerable children, what do we think is likely to happen to these kids when they reach adulthood? Productive, law abiding taxpayers in the making? Gullis' contribution is to shout "they shouldn't have come here then" in the House of Commons. I hate this Government so ******* much. We are in the gutter.
  6. Re Johnson / Sharp £800k. Their power is so entrenched they're barely even bothering to hide the brazen corruption, self-dealing, conflict of interests any more. I really hope there is some legal consequences for all this down the line but, who am I kidding. In case you're wondering, this is the BBC's response
  7. Often tends to happen when debating & challenging right wingers, don't you find Political conversations would be so much simpler if people just admitted their worldview is based around a feeling they deserve more than people who aren't like them
  8. This is a highly dubious claim. I get that FPTP means you just have to win at all costs, I really do. And that's a big reason why it needs to go. Nonetheless, Starmer's approach as Labour leader has fuelled the idea that politicians are all dishonest, it further reduces trust in institutions, corrupts public life, and diminishes our democracy. Don't know if I'll vote Labour at the next GE, but I just hope to God there's a good person in there who is doing all this shape-shifting in order to win in order to improve the lives of the people he supposedly represents.
  9. FM23 attributes below. For his age, very good physically, good off the ball & finishing. Quite pumped to see what he can do in the English game.
  10. Fair enough. This doesn't come from my inherent Anglo centrism or whatever, I have just thought in a few earlier interviews I watched, his English could be improved a bit, and I think communication is very important for a leader. The Bielsa counterpoint is a good one though and to be clear I'm delighted with his appointment and I'm a huge fan of what he's said so far & throughout his career.
  11. I am a little bit concerned about the quality of his spoken English. Maybe it's better when he's not got a camera in his face. Either way I hope he's taking lessons. PS - I am aware he is multi-lingual and how impressive that is. But the fact is he's not a great English communicator, especially when compared to how eloquent he is in Spanish. PPS - Jonathan Lieuw article on this from 2019 https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/dec/02/unai-emery-language-barrier-english-manager-premier-league Edit - Poch's English is shite too so not sure what he's on about there
  12. I am convinced these c***s know they are about to spend 10+ years out of power, and that most of them won't be re-elected. So, they've given up governing the country. E.g. no negotiation with unions to resolve disputes, ministers not bothering with Parliamentary select committees, nothing resembling an attempt to fix any of our current economic problems. They just don't care. They are now only focused on i) getting things through which they agreed with their donors and ii) setting up their own future career path out of politics - see point i). It's a wonder how we still haven't had millions marching on Westminster to get this lot out - off the scale corruption, cruelty and incompetence. Gordon Brown's proposed reforms don't go far enough
  13. Hi there. Firstly, I am so sorry to hear what happened to your friend, I hope she can secure some justice down the line. In addition to the advice above, I am in the middle of re-training as a solicitor and can suggest a couple of good London-based firms who might be able to help, as they have lots of experience bringing claims against the Police: - Bhatt Murphy - Imran Khan & Partners If not, here's a good website to find top-ranked law firms by legal practice area & region: https://www.legal500.com/united-kingdom-solicitors/ Because of the nature of the claim, you might be able to get a good firm to represent her pro-bono (for free - although this is increasingly uncommon due to government cuts to legal aid sector), or she might be eligible for civil legal aid - depending on her financial circumstances. A qualified solicitor will have to advise properly on this. Good luck.
  14. It’s possibly been mentioned but having recently watched all of it, can recommend Adam Curtis’ new doc TraumaZone on iPlayer. It covers Russia during the 80s and 90s using exclusively archive footage. No narration! It’s very good
  15. Appearances, but yeh. I extended his contract for another year! We have a really great squad in the game with a silly amount of depth. One of the hardest things was keeping players happy because I couldn’t give them enough game time.
  16. Just finished my first season as the inexperienced (both in-game and IRL) manager of AVFC. Was expecting it to be hard. However... Finished 4th on 74 points, finishing above Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal Won Manager of the Year Only major signings were Bamba Dieng, a £4m 22 y/o striker from OM who I never picked, and my wonderkid LW, Andreas Schjelderup for £7m - who turned out to be a key player Played a 4-2-3-1 attacking Gegenpress in every single game, to great effect Got great use out of Bednarek, Augustinsson, Chambers & Guilbert Ings was out for almost the whole season, Watkins got 25 as a pressing striker Bailey and Buendia were both very good All but froze out Mings, Nakamba, Sanson, Young Team stats below. Sign me up NSWE
  17. We rarely sold out under MON? Admittedly our home record wasn't amazing and we generally were crap against bottom half
  18. While there is clearly lots of talent within our squad below, it feels a bit like late MON to me and I think we may have a medium-term problem on our hands sorting it out. In particular too many centre-midfielders and not enough quality FBs, wingers, and possibly strikers. New manager is going to struggle to keep everyone happy. GK Martinez Olsen Steer FB Cash Young Digne Guilbert Augustinsson (loan) CB Mings Konsa Carlos Chambers Feeney Bednarek (loan in) Hause (loan out) MF Dougie McGinn Sanson Nakamba Kamara Ramsey Coutinho Bogarde Dendoncker Iroegbunam (loan out) FW Watkins Ings Bailey Buendia Archer Davis (loan out) Traore (loan out) Wesley (loan out) JPB (loan out)
  19. Well that seems to be quite reductive reasoning, and I think there is more evidence of chaos and uncertainty than the opposite. But we'll agree to disagree.
  20. A bit too optimist IMO, given the noise coming out this morning, and the circumstances surrounding the sacking of Gerrard and his entire team late last night. The signs were there when Grealish wanted to go to City but most of us couldn't bear to accept it all summer, and the signs are here now that we're in a desperate scramble to get a manager having our top picks turn us down.
  21. Does anyone still think we'd be in a worse position under a Labour Corbyn Government?
