  1. There’s definitely an argument to be had there. My differential gambles of bringing in Lowton and Ashley Barnes worked a treat, shooting me up over the past 3 GWs from about 300k just into the top 100k. But previous gambles haven’t paid off at all. I think you need your differential gambles to also coincide with some luck around what the template players do. If you pick a differential defender that doesn’t come off, but all of the template defenders also concede, then the gamble hasn’t been costly. Obviously with Man City having an amazing defensive record lately, and a lot of teams having 2 of their defenders, the gambles can hurt you if you were to take out one of them or another well performing template defender. On Salah, I took him out a few weeks ago and I’m sticking by my decision. He’s getting returns now, but it feels like he’s returning like a 7-8m asset, not a 12m big gun, so I’ve been able to use that spare money to look at Kane/ Son/ KDB etc for upcoming fixtures.
  2. Great score! I finished on 93, and also had Dallas, Raphina (c) and Bamford. Good ol’ Leeds, I like them really.
  3. As has been mentioned in here, travel is a risk, but I just feel like from a few months ago ‘the only way is up’ seemed very likely. I got on IAG (British Airways) when they were slumping a few months ago too. IAGs gains are not as much as TUIs today, but my fingers are crossed for a decent rise there too. March 4th is when Cellular Goods (the David Beckham backed Cannaboid(sp?) company) goes live on the LSE. I got on the IPO at 5p a share and there’s talk that it could reach 50p by the end of March. Which seems very optimistic to me, but the IPO was massively oversubscribed, to the point that thousands of people got a fraction of what they wanted from the IPO, so there will be people (myself included) looking to get extra shares as soon as they go live. Could be one to watch.
  4. Haha Yeah TUI and other travel companies are surging after that announcement. I bought TUI a few weeks back when they were at low 300s. Looking good at the moment.
  5. Yeah, it would make more sense to tell them they can play but they can’t pick Villa players. I’m surprised players are allowed to play anyway. I know it sounds trivial, but Bamford was talking the other week about how he hadn’t captained himself so he squared the ball instead of shooting himself. Stuff like that just seems wrong.
  6. That’s a great score. It feels like most people have got a middling score of 45-55 this week. My green arrow is so small it’s almost pointless. 56 (with Gundo off the bench), with Dallas, Raphina(c) and Bamford left to play. I took a minus 4 last week, swapping Cresswell and Soucek for Dallas and Raphina.
  7. You may be right. But you may also be misinterpreting my intention for these shares. For a start, my investments aren’t my pension or to pay off the mortgage early, my plan is to take them out at the end of 2021 or start of 2022. They’re not that long-term, in this case. Having closely watched travel shares go down to 1/5 or 1/4 of what they were this time last year, I know it’s a gamble, but I find it hard to believe that they’re a huge risk to not be up in the next 12 months (short of one of them going bust, of course). If, after I’ve done what I want to with these shares, I may invest again and go for the ‘spread it thinly’ approach, although something about that doesn’t appeal to me as much. Maybe that’s the gambler in me! Edit: Reading back my post from Sunday, I realise now that I said those shares were for the long-term. I guess I should have said..... short to medium term? I was saying long-term as opposed day trading etc. To me, 2 years from the purchase date is long term
  8. Uh oh Steve.... You won’t shut anyone up being that close to the drop zone
  9. Maybe risky, but I don’t really spread my investments out much. I have large amounts in TUI, IAG and Barclays. All bought when they were dipping in the last 11 months and all in profit (currently). The travel industry does feel like a bit of a gamble, but these shares are for the long term, and I can only see things getting better, in time, with vaccinations now being rolled out.
  10. I signed up to the Beckham backed IPO cannaboid(sp?) company. My first delve into IPOs. Although it looks like I’m probably not going to get any shares (I subscribed for 10,000 shares - £500 worth), or get very little, as the IPO was oversubscribed. No doubt the big investors putting in £1/4m+ will get all the shares.
  11. I think I’m in the minority, but I don’t mind what Wyness has said. Micah did an interview that got shares loads, where he said he wanted to leave but they wanted him to effectively stay as a non-playing cheerleader. Wyness has clarified that Micah completely left out the bit about Villa wanting a small fee. I’m actually amazed that most people are seemingly criticising Wyness over Micah with these two snippets. I think people just want to like Micah because of his pundit persona.
  12. I’ve heard there are some leagues that pay winners each gameweek. So it’s going to literally be people that don’t care about their overall rank. Like you say, seems pointless, but I guess those people are playing a slightly different game to the rest of us. 118 for me overall. A nice green arrow upto 7th in the VT league. And up from about 290,000th to 150,000th worldwide. Honestly, if I can get into the top 100k I’ll be happy. @Stevo985 Martinez outscored Areola from my bench too. And I’m provisionally playing Areola again this week (vs SHU). I’ll never learn
  13. Ashley Barnes and Lowton goals in my team this week What are the chances of picking two Burnley players to score 2 goals?! I probably would have made about £10,000 if I’d put a fiver on that happening.

    Cats...

We have one! I’ve noticed lately that the wind is occasionally holding it open past the little latch that keeps it shut. I’ve tried cleaning the hinges but I think the position of the cat flap (and the wind lately) is not helping.

It’s so funny that this time last year some of our fans were saying how we wouldn’t make a profit on any of the Summer 2019 signings I take great pleasure in being one of the fans that said we could make profit on most of them.

    Cats...

We lost one of our cats, Scrappy, last year, and the remaining cat Edwin is having a rough time! He’s always been a big wuss, and now he keeps getting beaten up by a little shit from up the road. The little shit got in our catflap a few weeks ago and scared Edwin to death in the middle of the night. We also caught him on the camera waiting for Edwin under a bush in the back garden and sprinting at him as he walked out the cat flap The funniest though, was when we caught him on our cameras on the front of the house - jumping up at the front window, as Edwin was presumably sat on the window ledge INSIDE! What kind of mental cat jumps up at a window to attack a cat behind glass?! Little ****.
  18. I was the opposite to you @Stevo985, I had Mee in my plans for days and then last minute decided to go differential in Lowton. I think the logic for Mee/Tarkowski was perfectly sound. Palace who concede from set pieces and Burnley who love a header. Us Lowton owners just got massively lucky. After Cresswell’s bonus points I’ll be on 99 with Areola, Cancelo, Stones, Digne, Lowton, Gundo and Ashley Barnes left to play /smugness
  19. I’m in the same boat. I think I’ll need to take a -4/-8 on the BGW to get to eleven players, but I think that may be worth the gamble. Then wildcard in GW10 to get back to a ‘normal’ looking team.
  20. 87 with 8 left to play, for me. Some of the big scores this week are going to be insane.
  21. A bad combination of Brighton pressing well and playing well, and us having a good handful of players having below average games. Barkley, Grealish, McGinn and Luiz all look out of sorts, to me. Traore and Watkins have barely touched it, mainly because they’re feeding on scraps and everything seems to be going through the McGinn/Grealish area, but being lost 8/10 times. Classic Smith half-time rant needed, to change us from ugly ducklings into a bunch of ass-kicking swans!
  22. Gundo captain Cancelo & Stones clean sheets Lowton Son benched A good start to the week. There’s plenty that could go against me though. I got rid of Salah last week so no points there, and I’ve took two gambles in transferring in Ashley Barnes (2 pts so far) and bringing Areola off the bench for Martinez, which may be the wrong move as Martinez is having a great game so far!
  23. Oh how I long for the Miwdeek Football threads of old
