    There definitely were. Either on VT or on twitter I saw a fair few shouts that we’ve gone for the inexperienced gamble, and that we should have gone for ‘proven’ Wilson over him. I think most would agree that both would have been good, dependent on the contract we gave Wilson. But I don’t think that was ever happening.

    I still can’t believe there were people questioning why we got Watkins over Wilson. I like Wilson, but for the fee, wages & length of contract he clearly wanted, he was a complete gamble. Is that his second or third injury this season that is keeping him out for 3+ weeks? Give it a season and Newcastle fans will be talking about him like we talked about Micah.

    Oooo so because he’s not wearing a black t-shirt or sporting black hair, they’re not rock n roll!? Is that it?! Or maybe you’re just not a fan of necking back a glass of cold milk to get your morning rocking?! Whatever your judgements, I think it’s clear that these chaps (I assume they’re men from the thumbnail, I haven’t opened the video) are more rock n roll than you BUSTER!

    Their biggest mistake was thinking they could come up and only spend £25m (or whatever measly amount it was). Even if they have debts to pay, it surely would have made more sense to pay off some debt, but still spent £50-60m+ to give themselves a fighting chance of survival.

    Yeah, I think you’re right. Also, a few of the expensive players seem to be coming back so I guess a lot of us will end up with at least one of the £4-4.5m players in our team. My plan for the coming weeks is to slowly build my DGW team using weekly free transfers, and then use the wildcard for the BGW that will follow. But that might change when new DGWs are added. My team for this week looks half decent, with 6 double players, and one free transfer left to bring in. Who will inevitably become my 7th double.

    DCL on the bench here too. Can’t complain though, 66 points (when bonuses are added) and Bamford left to play. I’ll take that. I feel like I really need to bring in some shit on my bench though. I’m sick of having to put good players on there, who inevitably pick up points that I wish I’d played. It’s hard to not spread the money around when you have Gundogan instead of the likes of KDB/Kane/Vardy though, with their recent injuries.

    This GW has a few tricky games to call. I’ve gone back and forth a few times choosing between Villa & West Ham players, and Leeds & Everton players.

    I’ve actually found that making moves to beat the price rises or drops hasn’t worked for me. I tend to get suckered into shipping out a falling asset (Wilson) and bringing in someone who is often a bit of a gamble (DCL/Digne), when holding and waiting would have actually served me better. I think the good old strategy of waiting to make your transfers a few hours before the deadline is generally better.

    My cousin is 2nd, behind me, in a closely fought private league. He transferred out Vardy for Kane in the GW just gone. Tee hee

    I didn’t think Salah was the safe option @Stevo985, considering how much he’s blanked recently and West Ham’s decent defensive record. I actually thought I was being quite brave having Salah as my (vice) Captain (after Cancelo)! Safe, without hindsight, would probably have been a City player against Sheffield United or Son against Brighton.

    I get what @useless is saying. In some circles, Brighton are talked about like they’re a really good footballing side, but they’re just a slightly better Fulham this season, despite having been in the league for a good few years more. I think it’s partly because Potter is talked about like he’s some football hipster, just because he looks like a womble.

    So, as well as having Stones (0), Cancelo (0) and Chilwell (0) in my defence, I have Bamford as my 2nd non-defender sub, meaning that Antonio with 2 points comes of the bench and Bamford stays where he is. On top of that, I thought I was pulling a master stroke having Areola (1) as my keeper instead of Martinez Salah captain has saved my week, but it could have been soooooo much better!

    He was relegated with Notts County. But yeah, the common opinion, for some reason, is that he’s never managed a team that’s been relegated.

    Antonio and Coufal here. I too have no Chelsea or Leicester players. There’s something about those two teams that puts me off. Maybe it’s their blue kit!

    Bamford and Alioski are on my bench. Obviously planned to have doubles but it was a step too far to replace them as well as the other 3 changes I made this week. I’ve only got one more single and that’s Holding, who should do okay.

    I took a -8 like many others. I’ve bench boosted and have 12 doubles. My main reason for going with the BB now instead of 26 or another week, is that I’m lead to believe that in the next one the European competitions will be back on, so there’s more chance of rotation. De Bruyne captained.

    Oh yeah, I’m not put out at having 9 for the BGW, but like a few others, I have a couple of players that probably won’t get me more than a point (Brewster etc), so it’s more like 7. It’s all about GW19 for me though. Bench boost with 11 players who have 2 games, plus Son, Calvert Lewin, Brewster and Holding.

    Son was where my captaincy was. The double-GW will be tricky. Salah looks like a good pick, but recent blanks will really put people off. I’ve been planning the blank and double game week since halfway through December. I’m sure plans will see me fall flat on my face though. That’s normally what happens when overthinking! I used up my free hit months ago, so I only have 9 players playing in the blank GW.

    I’m so glad I didn’t captain Salah this week. My midfield heavy side finished on 86 points this week. Son, Fernandes, Salah (sigh), De Bruyne and Soucek sorted me out.
