  1. Well you've hit on the fundamental difficulty here. Solving the planet's problems causes all manner of financial problems. And it causes them to very powerful industries and people. Unless those industries can get in on the ground floor and continue to make profits from the new systems and processes, they will actively and aggressively lobby against their introduction. Then we have China. It doesn't serve the immediate interests of the money men to solve the planet's problems. Their priorities are in complete conflict with those of everyone else. Free market capitalist economies certainly aren't perfect, they're essentially greed driven. It's important that the human race can see what issues it faces, so that movements can be made to force changes politically and move towards inventing better technologies for the benefit of the future.
  2. I'd rather not be deluded at all, if you want to pigeon hole yourself into one of those options that's entirely your choice
  3. Clearly some deluded sceptics on Villatalk
  4. 'Global warming' or 'global cooling' isn't 100% attributable to humans as it is a natural process, however I am 100% certain that human activities are causing the Earth to warm up at an unnatural rate that either wouldn't be happening at all or would be happening at a slower rate than what it is currently doing. The evidence has been undisputable for years except for sceptics sponsored by the people who make money from economic activities that causes output of greenhouse gases or destruction of natural carbon sinks.
  5. I don't think there is anything wrong with the style, similar to how the German sides play. But like you say the quality of the players on a technical and skill level is important. I'm sure when our scouts look at players they try to get these sort of players in who also suit our style, clearly isn't an easy task to do
  6. I'd have a front three of Helenius, Gabby and Weimann/Tonev. I think Helenius just needs game time and he'll become a very good player
  7. Some people have already made up their minds on the new signings, some of them have played less than 2 full games, actually has anyone played more than 4 competitive games for us? I'll give them at least 20 games before I feel confident on judging someone
  8. I couldn't give a sh*t about tonight's game. This negativity is ridiculous, I think Lambert wasn't too bothered about the game either. It's important to experiment with his new players in a competitive match that isn't so important and he did that, the players wasn't exactly outclassed or embarrassed enough to sulk over the game. Lets look forward to Saturday
  9. In my opinion he should on current form be ahead of Luna, result tonight didn't matter as we had so many of our top players missing. Anyway, Bennett had a good enough game
  10. This should be in other football, relegation doesn't concern Villa this year
  11. I agree with Isa on these points to be fair. I thought he was great against Arsenal, but not much better than average against Chelsea and Liverpool and I was always a bit worried with his defensive positioning. I thought he was almost as bad against Norwich as he was against Newcastle too, I think Bennett on his form I have seen in his most recent games is just as good. If he comes in and has a good performance against Spurs he should be entitled to feel hard done by if he gets dropped afterwards.
  12. If people see going to university (or higher education) simply as acquiring a degree (for the prime purpose of obtaining a job), sure. Let's hope it is viewed as much more than that for a good while yet. Yes. The purpose of education is not to produce fodder for firms, ready to do their bidding. It's a little broader than that, thankfully. But going to university isn't necessarily the only way to develop social skills and everything else that is essential and desirable to have for life. This idea to me is a good one, it won't be for everyone but it's a fresh twist on doing things
  13. Brilliant reading http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/sunderland/10328138/Paolo-Di-Canio-sacked-as-Sunderland-manager-after-massive-player-rebellion-undermined-his-authority.html
  14. They seem to hate Villa with a passion too, we come a close second to Newcastle as their most hated team. Jealousy perhaps Darren Bent. The hatred from them that January was Small Heath-esque, They are pretty crazy if it's just over that. I never feel animosity towards another club for wanting a player who is performing, it makes sense although I get frustrated with the player for wanting to move on. They seem so bitter it's a bit abnormal considering we aren't exactly a near rival geographically
  15. They seem to hate Villa with a passion too, we come a close second to Newcastle as their most hated team. Jealousy perhaps
  16. He wasn't given a bomb squad number, surely he can't be completely rejected by Lambert
  17. Gutted we haven't got an easier opponent to experiment with systems a bit more freely and blood the new signings in a bit more gently. Hope Lambert doesn't go to crazy, don't want the confidence to be knocked too much. Unfortunately it might be already dictated by injuries. Anyway a strong team for us would hopefully get us through against all but an inform Man City, just fearful the team we put out won't be anywhere near our strongest
  18. Call it a morbid curiosity to see what could happen in a fall from grace. I've nothing against Moyes and I've actually nothing against United. Quite the opposite. Ordinarily, I'd much rather see United win the league than any of the other viable sides winning it. I just want to see it burn for a while because it would be a novelty. As for Moyes, I've said already that I fully believe he has a ceiling as a manager and it's some way below what United need. But even allowing for that ceiling, I assumed not even David Moyes could get this United squad lower than 3rd after what they achieved at a canter last season. However, it now appears as though he might surpass my expectations and struggle for 4th. Spurs and Arsenal look more consistent this season and they're the sides I assumed would be just behind United come May. But with them now consistently picking up wins and United failing to do so, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that United will struggle to be in the CL places. As ridiculous as that sounds at the moment. Rumours are there's more to RVP's 'injury' and that he stormed out of training today saying "told you so" to Moyes w.r.t. his dinosaur training tactics having a negative impact on the team's results. If Moyes starts to lose the bigger players then it's only a matter of time. The next 5 games (WBA, Sunderland, Southampton, Stoke, Fulham) can't come quick enough for him (assuming they actually go out and win them). Where are these rumours coming from?
  19. Off the Sunderland forum Sami Mokbel ‏@SamiMokbel81_DM 10m Sunderland sack Paolo Di Canio after a furious training ground bust-up with his players today. More on MailOnline and Daily Mail Certain seemingly ITK's on the forum are saying he was going to be given some more time but this latest incident was so severe they acted now
  20. He just doesn't help himself, needs to have a few lessons in man-management and public relations before he applies for a similar job in the future I feel
  21. Some background behind the idea here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-24152698 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-23127327 There has been the online 'Open University' in the UK for years also but this MOOCS type course is a different type, with contributions and course material from the usual established universities
  22. Yeah Benteke said he hopes it's nothing serious, if it was bad he wouldn't have bothered to tweet he hopes it isn't
  23. Table is still in its infancy obviously, don't think either Everton or Spurs have looked as good as their league position says, we look better than 13th too
  24. I'm not familiar with some of the names on the Spurs bench, none of them are strikers are they? Seems strange especially with just 1 up front Didn't realise Kane and Lamela were classed as forwards, thought they were just attacking mids
