  1. The original parliamentary 1921 act contained provisions for the two territories to be reunited. It was the threat of civil war and the refusal of the Protestant majority In Ulster to accept unification that led to the rather sad division we have now. But I still say, the British Parliament was not averse to a United Ireland.
  2. You need to do a little more research. Britain was prepared for the whole of Ireland to move towards Independence. It was the threat of armed resistance by Carters loyalists that led to the Protestant majority in Ulster breaking from that. None of which has any relevance to Palestine at all.
  3. Who else behaves like Hamas? They’re hitting pop festivals. Absolute bastards. Doesn’t get us very far does it.
  4. What’s happening now in Gaza, is called war, and it’s horrible. That’s what war is. There’s never been a war, ever, that didn’t result in innocents dying. It’s the ultimate example of human failure. No amount of handwringing will ever change that. Israel was attacked by a viscious, hate filled terrorist entity called Hamas, and innocents died, and has reacted violently, and innocents have died. Israel will ultimately have to decide what their ultimate goal is in this awful conflict. God knows where this will end. Probably, back where we’ve been for the last 75 years.
  5. He also called the 7th October atrocities “ a glorious operation”. How on earth do you negotiate with people with that kind of mindset.
  6. Must be difficult to tell who’s an away fan in Uniteds end. They pull in plastics from all over the country anyway. Perhaps those massive grins on the Geordies faces gave them away
  7. Really. The Aussies who were taken prisoner by the Japanese in Singapore, fought some of the most vicious battles in Burma, New Guinea, Australian naval forces who took part in operations in the Pacific. Even, for a short period, Vietnam in the 60s. Not exactly wars fought on the other side of the world. Perhaps we do need Poppies to remind us after all
  8. The alternative is More of the Tories, good luck with that. Best to bite the bullet, and vote for what ,for some, could be regarded as by far the lesser of two evils.
  9. I’m all for PR, by far the most Democratic system. I’ve got less faith in the electorate to decide fiscal priorities. Sadly, 40 Years of right wing Neo Liberalism, has led too many people in this country to lose sight of anything socially worthwhile if it means they have to pay for it.
  10. Is that their fault or the electorates though. Voters cry out for principles and honesty, then at the ballot box, crucify the first guy to show any.
  11. If I ever doubted the validity of wearing my poppy, I only have to be with my mates son, who lost both legs to an IED in Afghanistan. Whatever the merits of any war, it’s the men who sacrificed so much that the poppy is remembering. It’s little enough.
  12. Whatever he says, won’t make a smidgeon of difference to the Israelis. They are totally set on a course to destroy Hamas. Only the USA can hold any influence over them. And honestly, after the atrocities inflicted on the Israelis on the 7th of October, I doubt even they could hold Israel back. It’s pointless to target Starmer here, he simply isn’t a player. Neither is Sunak or anybody else on this small, post Brexit, rather insignificant island.
  13. The days of Britain wielding much influence in the Middle East are long gone. Even less for a politician who isn’t yet in power.
  14. Sad really. They are a grand old club, with a good history. They’re walking a road that we so nearly went down ourselves. We really should think ourselves blessed that we ended up with our current owners. Feel for their fans.
  15. Isn’t that what Hamas want to do to the Jews.
  16. No match report in the Guardian. Yet they have an article on the revenue of Man Utd. Newspapers of today have lost sight of what the game is all about.
  17. Whatever else this is. Only a total Moron would consider it amusing.
  18. You go to the toilets at the Sty to get some fresh air.
  19. So did I. That semi Final under floodlights is still the most exciting game I’ve ever experienced
  20. Sir Bob was the cleanest striker of a ball I ever saw. If he was anywhere within 30 yards of goal you could expect fireworks. A sad day.
  21. Ah my mistake, I guess you were referring to Tamworth not the UK.
