  1. Interesting link, think it's a player Paul Lambert could really get the best out of, don't see him being too dissimilar to Grant Holt technically. Would be happy enough with this although I'd prefer Defoe if it was a choice of the two.
  2. Been banging on about Jermain Defoe for years, ideally we would have signed him 2-3 years ago. Even now though he'd very much improve the squad we have, people talking about Bent, Gabby, Weimann and Delfouneso being a decent prem strikeforce to have are kidding themselves. If Bent gets injured not one of those strikers is capable of getting into double figures even if they played the whole season.
  3. Robbie Savage tipping us for relegation, guy really is a tool. Still hasn't grown up since his days as a Blues player. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19280434
  4. Great signing. Shows we have ambition going forward. Hopefully can pluck out talent as good as Newcastle have abroad.
  5. Forest? Show them how we really play after the friendly.
  6. It's a bit of a viscous circle really, we don't have the money because we don't generate enough income on a matchday through crowds not being high enough and the ticket prices we charge being lower than average. The only way to get more people through the gates willing to pay a higher ticket price is by entertaining them more with better players and more attacking football.
  7. I can't see where Warnock is going to go. He's not good enough for anyone in the Prem to want him, yet no Championship club will be able to afford to pay his wages. We really are stuck.
  8. I've washed my home shirt 2-3 times using washing powder and had no problems at all.
  9. According to the BBC Sunderland's offer of £12m plus has been rejected, Wolves holding out for £15m. They must know MON is stupid enough to pay that.
  10. I do know where people's frustration comes from, knowing it's only a few days until the season starts and us still being well short. But it's all about getting the best deals for the club, not panic buying and paying over the odds on transfer fees and wages. If we only sign a couple more players before the end of the window, I still have full confidence in Lambert to get the players we need in future windows.
  11. Bit risky giving someone who is not proven quality that length of time in the team, Lambert can make his own judgement based on training and the odd sub/league cup appearance.
  12. Before we signed Given, I thought he was a better keeper than Friedel. Not saying Given's been bad, but based on how they have both performed at Aston Villa alone, I'd say Friedel's looked the better keeper.
  13. Too late, should have 2/3 years ago. At the age of 29 I could see this being just the right time to sign him, as he won't want to be sat on the bench at Spurs and will be eager to play, knowing he has 2-3 years at the top level left.
  14. Far too early to be saying Lambert 'loves' any particular system. I remember him playing with two wide men at Norwich last season, getting lots of crosses into the box for Holt. He's a good manager, so will play to the strengths his team has. Fit the system around your players, not your players around the system.
  15. Anyone think we should be joining Sunderland in the chase for Defoe? Personally he's a player I've wished we'd sign for a few years.
  16. I don't think 'Well he's got to be better than Warnock' is really a good reason to be signing a player to be honest. That will just lead us to a position where a year down the line we are looking for a new left back saying 'Well he's got to be better than the current one'.
  17. To an extent, Herd is good at what he does, covering a lot of ground, putting in tackles, etc. If we want to establish ourselves in the top half again though I think we need a better first choice at DM.
  18. I remember too well last time we played away at a newly promoted team on the opening day. Hoping for a 2 2 draw, but wouldn't be surprised to see us go down 2-1, late goal.
  19. Given Lowton Clark Vlaar Warnock El Ahmadi Herd Ireland Bannan Weimann Bent NZogbia too much of a luxury to risk away from home as well as Ireland. Team says it all about our squad, in dire need of players. Striker, LB, CB, DM, Winger. 5 players short of being even top 8.
  20. Surely when they forked out the 7m on him though they were expecting roughly the return he's given them - 10-12 Prem goals a season? No they were hoping for them. No he has delivered and they aren't eager to sell surely anyone would realise the price will have gone up not down. Just can't see that it should have nearly doubled when all he's done is come up with the kind of return which I would have thought a 7m striker should return, 1 in 3. His half decent return which would normally push the value up slightly is cancelled out by the fact Wolves are no longer a Premier League Club so have to sell their best assets.

  22. CI some of your comments are comedy genius. Can't quite picture you sat there reading the guardian, but if this little piece has inspired you, then by all means go for it.
  23. Adam Johnson would be quality at Villa. A better version of the player we saw in Stewart Downing for that one whole season.
  24. Very accurate report. Honestly think there's very little chance of us getting in the top half without more new signings.
