  1. Agreed. Obviously want him to stay, but if someone really insists on buying him we're getting a ridiculous fee that probably helps us out in the long run
  2. Hadn't heard of these - enjoying it! They remind me of The Last Dinner Party but more interesting.
  3. Dougie is in the same bracket as them. Remember he was arguably our POTS up until Kamara's injury where his role changed and he had more defensive responsibility.
  4. Would love a midfielder who can do that. Since teams started sitting deep against us we've been crying out for a player with great vision and passing. Tielemans filled the role to some extent but was of course in and out of the team with injury.
  5. Westfalenstadion could be a good model for us. Their capacity has gone from 40,000 to 80,000 without knocking down a stand
  6. ‘Miles above McGinn at his best’ is harsh on McGinn for me. We rarely see McGinn at his best because he’s always being stuck in defensive midfield. Anyway, keep both it is
  7. True. Regardless, fundamentally if she wasn’t on the left they wouldn’t be getting rid. It follows a clear trend
  8. Brutal. Don’t think I see as much difference in their ability as you seem to. Practically you could make a case for selling Luiz too as his value is much greater
  9. Have a heart. Love them both but you can’t just flog your captain. McGinn’s been here every step of the way. You can replace Dougie’s talent but you can’t replace McGinn’s emotional connection with the club
  10. Getting rid of a significant and popular left wing candidate amidst this Dianne Abbott debacle is a funny form of pragmatism. A good point about the Israel Palestine thing but I don’t know if IDS is someone the Labour Party would be worried about. Maybe 20 years ago they would have been. Seems to be ideologically motivated to me
  11. One of the only seats to swing Labour in 2019. So clearly not a matter of electoral potential. Purely ideological
  12. Unai’s contract was welcome but hardly massive news. And who cares about a sleeve sponsor. It just all feels very incoherent at the moment, which is surprising given how they seemed to be gearing up for a big rebrand announcement with the adidas mural etc
  13. Sorry Larry but they're far too generous. Aside from Sunak which is bang on. Starmer wishes he had the imagination and charisma of a vienesse whirl.
  14. Undoubtedly - something must have gone wrong somewhere. It seemed like with the season ending well, adidas mural going up and Heck tweeting 'we need a new kit' that it was all gearing up for a few announcements. But instead we just got a weak adidas post followed by radio silence and all excitement has now dissipated.
  15. Anyone else feel like this rebrand thing has been massively underwhelming? Why didn't they do the badge/adidas/kit all in one? Or at least follow up the adidas announcement with something else to maintain some momentum. All feels a bit flat now
  16. Agree with all of that. But I don’t think midfield players that can’t attack and contribute defensively are necessarily worse or less valuable than those that do both e.g. Barry. Players like Barry will always be useful and have a role because of their versatility but sometimes in the right system a ‘deep lying playmaker’ who isn’t an effective defender but is an elite passer can be excellent.
  17. Ofc because he’s a midfielder but he barely makes a tackle or an interception. Certainly isn’t expected to defend, others pick up that job for him
  18. What is he doing with his mouth there? Also 'and I rather enjoy it' r.e. the abuse he gets. Let the mask slip there. He's a wind-up merchant and thrives on it. He makes shed loads of money by undermining our democracy and endangering our lives. All while fooling people into thinking he's 'one of them' even though he's a millionaire with a background in finance! You have to admit, he's good at what he does. God, when will he bugger off?
  19. Same reasons people pick up smoking - to fit in, to look cool, because nicotine is a pleasurable and addictive substance. Also those vapes are marketed towards young people and made to taste nice - yet another ploy from the tobacco companies to make money by fuelling addiction
  20. Could be a good move for them if Dyche can use his man management to get Phillips back on it. Higher upside than Dendonker for them certainly. More risky though. I know his wages are probably an issue but in a certain role, Dendonker would still be a great signing for many PL clubs
  21. That'd be an exciting appointment. They're clearly serious about keeping the women's team on an upward trajectory
  22. Absolutely should be considering McGinn for those three attacking positions. He was playing there before injuries and rotation became a factor. Definitely much more effective further forward
  23. I think what people mean by a 'deep lying playmaker' is a player with primarily attacking or positive responsibilities but who sits deeper on the pitch. Pirlo, for example, was positioned deep in midfield, often sitting between centre backs, but still wasn't expected to contribute defensively. Similarly, Luka Modric holds his position fairly deep but doesn't do any defending. As long as you've got a system which allows for that midfield player to have fewer defensive responsibilities it's fine. Don't think anyone would call Modric or Pirlo 'ineffective' because they don't defend. That said, with the way the game is played now, every player is expected to have more defensive responsibility, so the role is being phased out and replaced by more all-round midfielders. This is also the reason you see fewer 'traditional' playmakers now - Ozil for example wouldn't work in a City or Liverpool system because they require that each and every player press with pace and intensity and fulfils a very structured role, whereas a player like Ozil operates better with positional freedom.
  24. He is very good. But his price will be inflated by the season he’s had, so might better value elsewhere
  25. As I said, the 4 year deal was the problem. Overall a poor transfer no doubt but I do think he showed enough to make it worthwhile if he was cheaper
