  1. Back up for Luiz, meaning Tielemans and McGinn can stay further up if Luiz is out. His discipline and work rate has improved a lot and his role at Luton has been similar to Luiz's more advanced role earlier in the season before Kamara got injured. Going off his Luton performances i'd even go so far as to say he could be a back up option to Kamara. But concerns about his discipline would definitely be valid in that role.
  2. The ability for players to improve is underrated. Some don't hit their primes until later in their career, especially those who have emotional maturing to do i.e. Barkley. Also, if there's any manager capable of finding a player's best role and getting the most out of them, it's Emery
  3. As I said in the edit above, some report that he has a year left some are saying it's up. I'd imagine it having a year left is more likely given it would be unusual for Luton to sign him on a one-year deal. Unless there was a relegation get-out clause or something? All speculation really, but either way we can bank on it being cheap, surely 10 mil absolute tops.
  4. His contract is up so can only assume any fees are agent/sign-on fees or whatever. Edit: Actually just read a report that Luton never disclosed the length of his contract - some seem to think it's up, some report it has another year.
  5. Can't say I know enough about the women's game to comment on the managerial pick, but I reckon with the trajectory of the club and the ambitions of the women's team, we'll maybe try and go for a more marquee-type managerial appointment. Depends how much the club is willing to invest given a slightly disappointing year this time around and the financial restrains already evident in the men's team
  6. Way I see it this signing means if we get an injury in midfield we won't have to drop Mcginn/Tielemans back, leaving them to excel further up the pitch. McGinn's form dropped off a cliff when Kamara go injured as he was forced to play deeper (where we know from the Gerrard days that he is ineffective).
  7. Concerns about his inconsistency have been put to bed a little by his perfomances this year in a deeper role. I think in a deeper position where he'd have less responsibility to be the main creator (as has been his role at Luton this season), he'll be solid as a cheap, experienced back up option. If we were paying 15-20 mil for him I'd be confused, but on a free this is a good signing imo. Certainly an improvement on Tim/Chambers as midfield back ups
  8. Four or five should be very doable even with financial restraints. We'll move several on and getting undervalued players on the cheap/free is Monchi's strength. If we do sell a big name (Luiz, Ramsey), this makes that even more achievable.
  9. The bottom line is the identity of the club is for the fans and should represent the fans. I think many feel that this new badge doesn't do the club justice. At the same time, looking at what Heck did in America, turning a team worth 300 million to one worth 3 billion, it's clear he knows what he's doing in terms of marketing and building a brand. I think it's ugly but have kind of gotten over it now. The balance between making fans happy and creating a marketable product is a hard one and the crux of the issue. There has to be a balance and the problem is that this situation feels unbalanced - yes, Heck is the expert, but he hasn't listened to the wishes and sentiments of the fanbase enough. We're stuck with it now and I'm sure it will grow on people. But I think the backlash from fans is justified and useful in that it might urge Heck to learn from his mistakes in future. The problem with those wishing fans to just shut up and accept it is that without pressure from fans, owners and board members will have licence to run riot, which is good for nobody besides them and their profits.
  10. I think the badge is ugly, but we'll come to accept it and it will grow on the fan base. Heck knows what he's doing with marketing and branding better I do so I'll trust his vision. What he did with the Philadelphia 76ers was pretty incredible and if he thinks this rebrand is essential in growing the club then so be it. It's a shame he's not communicative with fans and didn't come up with a better badge but this is what you get supporting a club that wants to be a global giant.
  11. We were looking really solid until about the time you tuned in...
  12. Yeah, Villa gone to sleep after the goal
  13. I’m weirdly happy about this. Id rather we have to be shrewd and focus on keeping what we’ve got that than sell a popular player to fund big transfers. IMO the first XI doesn’t need much, we just need depth to deal with injuries
  14. Are the rumours circulating because of low odds, or are odds low because of rumours...
  15. Yeah in the context I agree, going back to something Corbyn-esque even without his brand would look weird. In a vacuum, though, I think something like his manifesto would be popular without a toxic leader at the head of it. I might be naive...
  16. This is a good point tbf. But then footballers are weird. And he would probably see decent game time in EFL/FA cup, and off the bench. Maybe that pull to play in a good team at a high level is enough
  17. He has been very good tbf. The England call-up calls were for a good run of form but he's been consistently solid creatively and progressively. Hard to know his level because it's not hard to shine in that Luton team, but as a free back-up option I think he'd be a very underrated shout
  18. Madness if it happens, but I actually think that's an alright move. You'd think he'd cost pennies and will be a useful and experienced backup option (won't be anything more than that) for Luiz's position as well as the AM roles. Edit: He's out of contract, so will be free and on relatively low wages
  19. I think Corbyn and losing are certainly connected. Not sure about genuine socialist policies. Starmer running on Corbyn's manifesto now, without Corbyn's baggage, would certainly win this free-hit of an election
  20. Mate I get how grim it is, I'm the last person to endorse clubs rinsing the fans with pointless merch don't get me wrong. But if people are going to be buying club stuff (which they will regardless) I don't mind that we might actually be getting something that's based on our history and is a nice item as an alternative to the usual dross.
  21. I don't really have a problem with it tbh. If it's an actual '4th kit', as in, one we would actually use in matches, I suppose I'd agree. But is it not more likely just going to be something nice for fans to buy? We release a dearth of crap leisurewear and training gear each year, and it's always rubbish. A commemorative 4th kit, whatever that means, at least sounds like something I might be interested in buying
  22. This part just isn't true either. Starmer and Co are perfectly happy to be tribal when anyone vaguely left-wing in the party dare speak up
  23. Person doing this probably got the template from already released Adidas kits for this year's Euros
  24. You train them how to do so properly, obviously. They'll still have grown up watching pros head the ball and will still do so down the park. It's not like they're suddenly having to learn how to walk. And no, I don't think it should be 'eradicated' from the game, don't be dramatic
