    I assume this is going to be a two team game. We are obviously going to be without the injured players and those who played internationals over the summer. Hopefully we will see a few of the kids get some game time. JPB, Tim, Kellyman, Ramsey Jr, Azaz, etc.

    I think after looking at Diaby videos the player I’d like most is Frimpong! He either scores or assists every goal Diaby is involved in. Maybe we could do a double deal?

    This is a real statement of intent from the club (Unai, Monchi, owners). This guy should be going to a upper level champions league club and there’s no doubt Bayern were interested and the driving force here must be Unai. Hopefully he can show us the form he’s shown in Spain and Unai can the the very most from him!

    Speaking of record signings (but slightly off topic) we have just signed Leicester’s record signing on a free in Tielemans. Signed for 35m in 2019.

    When Young came back for a second shift I was sceptical. Thought he would be a bit part at best player. But l thought last season he was one of our best performers. As a soon to be 38 year old man myself his level of fitness is quite amazing. Hope he doesn’t hang up the boot just yet, but when he does there should be a coaching role for him at Villa. The man is the consummate professional and should be the example used for all footballers.

    I’ll start by saying ‘I don’t generally buy the shirts’ but this one for me is a proper own goal. Having a gambling company on the front and a trade company on the sleeve sends out a horrible message. It just tells you that these people have to be forced to do the right thing and I’ll be glad never to have to look at a gambling company on the front of the shirt again. Then you’ve got the badge balls up. You’re either going to change the badge or you aren’t. This half is changed but we’re going to keep the old one around is just bullshit. I’m hoping it’s because they are going to work in the stadium in the next years and it’s not worth changing but if that’s the case why bother with the whole thing!

    I may be wrong but Monchi will be on gardening leave at the moment. I’m sure he has a lot of personal things to sort out but on his wages I’m sure they will be handed off to someone else. The key here is he isn’t getting paid by Villa until July, but I know from experience he will start straight away. He won’t be at Villa but he will be an integral part of any discussions that are going on. I expect if he knew the Villa deal was going to happen he had been working behind the scenes with UE for the last few weeks.

    He was different he couldn’t play right back. His issue was he couldn’t play centre back either. Or anywhere else for that matter!

    I know this is only semantics but he’s only 20 so even if he’s out of contract next summer he can’t be signed on a free. It would go through the transfer compensation route. I know this won’t be huge but it might explain why getting him now and agreeing the fee may be a more straightforward scenario. Ignoring the fact he may have a storming start to next season and be looking at a CL level team when his contract runs out.

    We’re going to pay 3.1m for our sporting director. That’s more than we paid for our captain!!

    That’s a really tough opening game of season. But the rest of August looks ok!

    It would be a very unusual move if we didn’t replace him. I get the “structure” argument but is that not the the literal house of cards, if we lose (for example) Emery does the whole structure not fall apart. I’d find this a bit worrying from a legacy planning point of view!

    Really smart signing. PL and European experience and zero transfer fee. Contract won’t be wild either I’d assume. Love it!

    The tale of two very tight offside decisions. Both went West Hams way and they won the league. Still think the penalty is the wrong decision! The fans who threw cups and worse should be ashamed of themselves!

    I wouldn’t mind seeing West Ham winning but it would sicken me to see Declan Rice win anything. Absolute rocket polisher! He’ll soak up all the praise today and **** off tomorrow!

    I’m not against signing him but I’d question this one a bit. With Carlos coming back into the fold over the summer. Are we really expecting a new centre back partnership? Especially after how well Mings and Konsa performed since UE came in. I know we will need a squad next season but I can’t see any of the four mentioned CBs being happy sitting on the bench.

    Big fan of Tielemans! He’s a lovely striker of the ball and gives brilliant options in midfield. And free! Couldn’t be better!
