    I think that’s the worst I’ve seen SJM in a long long time. Never got into the game. Never got ok the ball and dictated play. Never really looked like making or scoring. But he has so much credit in the bank he’s still in-line if the first names on the team sheet next time out.

    A terrible day compounded by a bad injury to Mings. Newcastle are everything to hate about football. Horrible fans with horrible owners but doing well because of greed and human rights abuses. I wish them or hint but bad luck Ok to the next one

    One thing is clear tonight. Newcastle are a top 4 team now. Every 50-50, 60-40 is going their way! Gordon could run into a breath of wind and he’d get a free kick! Having said that they look great at home and we look off it.

    Ramsey to Burnley is a good deal all round. 14m to reinvest and a buy back should he really take off there. I hope the lad goes to Burnley and smashes it. The bit about Archer is a bit of a worry but if he goes there must be a back up striker on the horizon!

    I agree with you that we are a hard team to call at the moment. I get the feeling we will start with this: Emi Cash Konsa Mings Pau Luiz Kamara Youri McGinn Diaby Watkins I think we’ll go for Mings at LCB for stability and a bit of height. We will ask Cash to push on knowing we have 3 centre backs. Luiz and Kamara are certs, I think we need both for a stable base. Both Youri and SJM can fill in at CM if Luiz pushes forward. Diaby and Watkins are going to fire this season.

    It’s the first time in a long time we actually have options all around the pitch. The reality is some very decent players are going to be on the bench day 1 against Newcastle but our bench will be strong. It’s going to be a long season and most players are going to play a part! The standouts for me tonight were Tielemans, Pau, Kamara, McGinn and I thought Couthino looked right up for it.

    We’ve gone from no pace to so much pace all of a sudden!

    I am starting to get a little worried about the internet “pundits” backing us for top 5 and potentially a champions league spot! I think our aim this season is top 6. When you consider to do that you will have to squeeze out a few of City, Arsenal, United, Newcastle, Liverpool, Brighton, Chelsea and Spurs it’s not going to be easy!

    I can see it being either Cash or Digne until Moreno comes back. If Digne starts we play Konsa at RB. If we play Cash we play Pau at LB.

    For me a few things have stood out on the US preseason tour. Unai is still trying to find his starting back line (4 or 5). I actually think we may start the season with last seasons back 4 with Pau and Carlos coming from the bench. Midfield has real options but expect to see SJM, Luiz and Kamara start. Ahead of that I think Ollie, Diaby and JPB are in the spots at the moment.

    Did anyone else notice that they used a picture Caleb instead of Carney Chuk before the Chelsea Fulham game.

    The amount of goals we are conceding is a bit of a worry. To be fair Brentford’s 2nd and 3rd have been great strikes. I’ll be disappointed if he don’t win this game.

    What a second quarter. The goal from Konsa won’t get the praise it deserves but it’s world class. Power, speed, calmness and then the ability to finish! Absolutely brilliant!

    I hate that the rules change in preseason. That’s a yellow card all day for Mee!

    He’s not offside. He’s in his own half. Defenders need to be smarter than that!

    I suggest we stick Olsen on up front just to exact a little revenge on Mee!

    Yeah I assume so! Mings does play LB from time to time.

    I don’t think Olsen is as bad as some people make out. But I do think we are a significantly poorer team when he plays in goal. For me, I think Dibu should start every game he’s fit. Every league and cup game. I don’t think top level keepers need to be rested.
