  1. I would imagine a local record shop would take the CDs (assuming you’re not bothered about receiving any cash). There’s always CeX, I think as long as the DVDs have their cases, I believe they will take them. A local library might want either the CDs/DVDs. Don’t know about the rest of the items.
  2. But, it’s going to be deliberately crooked now, I assume?
  3. Somewhat off topic, but without the subsequent context of the rest of the lyrics, I feel the opening verse of the 1964 UK number one song “Little Children” does not read very well… Little children, you better not tell on me I'm tellin' you, little children, you better not tell what you see And if you're good, I'll give you candy and a quarter If you're quiet, like you oughta be and keep a secret with me (For those who don’t know, it transpires the song’s protagonist is dating the kid’s sister - whom I assume is of consenting age - trying to keep the children from telling their parents) I just don’t think anyone hoping for a successful song would kick it off with a verse like that anymore
  4. Even putting aside my bias due to it being used in the opening of “…morning glory”, I think “Hello, hello, I’m back again” has storming chorus. Just sung by sick piece of shit.
  5. I don’t much care for boxing, but I quite like boxing films (well, I like them disproportionately more than I do the sport). It probably lends itself to a narrative better than other sports, it’s focused on an individual rather than diffused across a team, typically the character is from a more dramatic (gritty) background with various obstacles to overcome, and the story is going to end with a fight where there’s a clear winner and loser. That Mitchell & Webb sketch on trying to make a film about cricket showcases why certain sports aren’t as transferable to the big screen.
  6. To my mind, this would make Burnley the biggest flatterers to deceive, of promoted clubs, rather than the worst promoted club. The emperor’s new clothes of promoted clubs. The worst promoted champions, perhaps (I haven’t checked). I hate to be all obvious and predictable, but the season before they totalled their infamous 11 points, Derby were promoted through the play offs. Statistically they have to be the worst promoted club, of recent times, anyway. By all means, Burnley can be among the worst of the promoted clubs. They can be in the conversation. I just don’t think they’re “easily the worst promoted team ever”.
  7. Working on the idea that 70 points is required for a champions league finish. Probably not exactly 70, but it’s a reasonable working estimate. They’re on 44 points, so 26 required from 12 games. These 12 include games against the top three (much like we have). I don’t anticipate them getting a great deal from those. Let’s say they manage a draw from those, so 25 points required from 9 games. That’s 8 wins and a draw from - Everton (h), Sheff Utd (h), Brentford (a), Chelsea (a), Bournemouth (a), Saudis (h), Burnley (h), Palace (a), Brighton (a) There are a lot of wins there. But I don’t think they will win enough to reach 70. I think Brentford, Chelsea, Brighton will be difficult games for them.
  8. I expect so. The only reason(s) I’m giving again any consideration is that today as you say was a particularly bad one for them results wise. They lose, while QPR, Wednesday, Millwall, Swansea and Huddersfield all win. Five teams around you winning when you’ve lost is bad, when the teams are all dwelling nearer the bottom of the table and therefore not as expected to win, it’s particularly bad luck. Wish that sort of thing happened more often to them.
  9. Those two back to back wins that Mowbray signed off with will probably save them. And there’s probably one or two too many teams acting as a buffer. But it is close down there. As stated above, three off the relegation zone. Only six points off 23rd. As it stands, there are (essentially) two relegation places still to be decided.
  10. So in the last ten matches, we’ve lost our 100% home record, lost to Man Utd twice, failed to beat Everton, had all our best defenders out injured at various points… And Man Utd have made precisely zero ground on us.
  11. I believe it was missed on here, but actor Michael Jayston died earlier this month, aged 88. Among other things, he played Raquel’s father in the original final episode of Only Fools…but I dare say some will remember him for playing Peter Guillam in the tv series of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (for those who have only seen the more recent film, Benedict Cumberbatch played the role).
  12. I always find the thread interesting. Because of the nature of it, it provokes random talking points. I never feel the desire to take part in the actual pool itself. I can only conclude that on some level I am slightly superstitious and I feel like I’d be tempting fate. As daft as I know that is <shrugs shoulders>
  13. Never seen Porkys. It’s not like I’ve actively sought out to watch it. But I don’t think I’ve ever seen shown on (terrestrial) tv. To be honest I don’t know if it’s something that would be shown. It’s never been obvious to me how raunchy the comedy is, I’ve always assumed it’s something like American Pie but with a sort of Animal House aesthetic.
  14. Not seen 5 (not sure I will, unless channel 4 picks it up). Season 4 was good, some aspects I really liked, but it was probably my least favourite. Part of the problem was it kept killing off the characters I found the most interesting. The (mostly) black & white episode in that season was excellent though.
  15. Do you mean for this election? If so, I don’t think the tories can do anything to win. I think Farage would hurt them just as much as help them (if anything it would hurt them more). Labour can lose it. But it would be through their own failings rather than anything the tories do. So for me, the danger for Labour would be a complacent “meh” attitude in potential voters. As it happens, I think there is a significant proportion of the country looking forward to giving the tories a severe kicking.
  16. I don’t think Greenwood will come back. I think it will remain too toxic.
  17. Yeah the only one I feel is a bit flavour of the month is the lioness one, and even that has a pleasing alliterative quality. Is it particularly woke (in the disparaging way some use it) to acknowledge a hospital that helped those affected by the aids pandemic? Whether or not I ever had any idea of what woke meant, I’ve lost all sense of it now if people think that qualifies.
  18. I used to work for that particular local authority years ago. Think it covered 25 wards (certainly 27 parishes anyway), with about 50 district councillors. Out of that fifty, one councillor was Labour, and perhaps not so surprisingly, he represented the former mining area of the district.
  19. Just used that Electoral calculus site to see how my former stomping ground of South Staffordshire is predicated. 90% blue. Pretty sure that one is going nowhere.
  20. True, Kip did alright in 2015 here. That will take some of the tories votes. I just have this feeling that those who are a bit more left leaning and deferring from the tories will split between Labour and Lib Dem. And therefore keep the tories here. Hopefully I’m wrong.
  21. I am, yes. In fairness I’m not quite sure how I would expect to gauge how folk will vote here. But I’m not sensing any notable desire for change here. I can go around various parts of the local area, and I’m left thinking “Hmm yeah, you’re still voting Tory aren’t you…” I suppose I might think that because generally it’s quite nice around here and so people would see that and not consider the broader picture. But again, maybe it’s not a sentiment I would necessarily notice, on the ground as it were.
  22. In the constituency I live in, it has been either Conservative or Labour for the past 100 years (the Independent Parliamentary Group won in 1922). Labour last won in 2001 (Rees-Mogg was the losing Tory, humorously). They have been second ever since. I therefore assume that they will be the best bet for me in order to bid a not so fond adieu to my local Tory. But I also am fairly sure they (the tories) will win this particular seat.
  23. I don’t ever think it’s an act. I just think it’s one of those songs that is kinda used to evoke a particular mood. I can imagine if I watched a 90’s tv drama, let’s say “This Life”, Glory Box would feature somewhere. It’s has a sort of low key ubiquitous quality, I guess.
