  1. So in the last ten matches, we’ve lost our 100% home record, lost to Man Utd twice, failed to beat Everton, had all our best defenders out injured at various points… And Man Utd have made precisely zero ground on us.
  2. I believe it was missed on here, but actor Michael Jayston died earlier this month, aged 88. Among other things, he played Raquel’s father in the original final episode of Only Fools…but I dare say some will remember him for playing Peter Guillam in the tv series of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (for those who have only seen the more recent film, Benedict Cumberbatch played the role).
  3. I always find the thread interesting. Because of the nature of it, it provokes random talking points. I never feel the desire to take part in the actual pool itself. I can only conclude that on some level I am slightly superstitious and I feel like I’d be tempting fate. As daft as I know that is <shrugs shoulders>
  4. Never seen Porkys. It’s not like I’ve actively sought out to watch it. But I don’t think I’ve ever seen shown on (terrestrial) tv. To be honest I don’t know if it’s something that would be shown. It’s never been obvious to me how raunchy the comedy is, I’ve always assumed it’s something like American Pie but with a sort of Animal House aesthetic.
  5. Not seen 5 (not sure I will, unless channel 4 picks it up). Season 4 was good, some aspects I really liked, but it was probably my least favourite. Part of the problem was it kept killing off the characters I found the most interesting. The (mostly) black & white episode in that season was excellent though.
  6. Do you mean for this election? If so, I don’t think the tories can do anything to win. I think Farage would hurt them just as much as help them (if anything it would hurt them more). Labour can lose it. But it would be through their own failings rather than anything the tories do. So for me, the danger for Labour would be a complacent “meh” attitude in potential voters. As it happens, I think there is a significant proportion of the country looking forward to giving the tories a severe kicking.
  7. I don’t think Greenwood will come back. I think it will remain too toxic.
  8. Yeah the only one I feel is a bit flavour of the month is the lioness one, and even that has a pleasing alliterative quality. Is it particularly woke (in the disparaging way some use it) to acknowledge a hospital that helped those affected by the aids pandemic? Whether or not I ever had any idea of what woke meant, I’ve lost all sense of it now if people think that qualifies.
  9. I used to work for that particular local authority years ago. Think it covered 25 wards (certainly 27 parishes anyway), with about 50 district councillors. Out of that fifty, one councillor was Labour, and perhaps not so surprisingly, he represented the former mining area of the district.
  10. Just used that Electoral calculus site to see how my former stomping ground of South Staffordshire is predicated. 90% blue. Pretty sure that one is going nowhere.
  11. True, Kip did alright in 2015 here. That will take some of the tories votes. I just have this feeling that those who are a bit more left leaning and deferring from the tories will split between Labour and Lib Dem. And therefore keep the tories here. Hopefully I’m wrong.
  12. I am, yes. In fairness I’m not quite sure how I would expect to gauge how folk will vote here. But I’m not sensing any notable desire for change here. I can go around various parts of the local area, and I’m left thinking “Hmm yeah, you’re still voting Tory aren’t you…” I suppose I might think that because generally it’s quite nice around here and so people would see that and not consider the broader picture. But again, maybe it’s not a sentiment I would necessarily notice, on the ground as it were.
  13. In the constituency I live in, it has been either Conservative or Labour for the past 100 years (the Independent Parliamentary Group won in 1922). Labour last won in 2001 (Rees-Mogg was the losing Tory, humorously). They have been second ever since. I therefore assume that they will be the best bet for me in order to bid a not so fond adieu to my local Tory. But I also am fairly sure they (the tories) will win this particular seat.
  14. I don’t ever think it’s an act. I just think it’s one of those songs that is kinda used to evoke a particular mood. I can imagine if I watched a 90’s tv drama, let’s say “This Life”, Glory Box would feature somewhere. It’s has a sort of low key ubiquitous quality, I guess.
  15. A reasonable chance you have heard “Roads” too.
  16. Obviously I don’t know if you’ve gone out of your way to check to see if you’ve heard it, come back and confirmed that belief. But for me it’s one of those songs that people have heard but they don’t realise they know it.
  17. Thank you HV, I really appreciate the comment I’m not actually feeling particularly level headed at the moment - just generally. Not quite with it, for whatever reason. My slightly downbeat feeling is this is all somewhat reminiscent of that Gregory season - but not as bad as that collapse. I think these are better players and Emery is a much better manager. But it feels a bit like events are conspiring. I don’t know, I’m trying not to determine in my own mind either way and get worked up about it, because ultimately in a year’s time we’ll be here debating whether finishing in X place is where we should be and it will be the same again. And I’m not sure I want to do it again
  18. I’ll pop in to see the happiness or the misery, but with one or two exceptions I’m keeping On topic at arms length at the moment. That’s true of football generally at the moment. But I don’t mind popping back in to suggest to someone to have a break as opposed to quitting altogether.
  19. I’m taking a break from it mate, I’m better for it. I would advise you do the same as I think you’re valued around here and to see you go completely would make the site a worse place.
  20. Ok mate, I haven’t got the energy or the desire to carry on. I’m not that bothered. I would just suggest out of politeness when they next parade the European cup trophy around villa park with the ‘82 team, try and keep the “Yeah but did you see the quality of the opposition” muttering to a relatively low level.
  21. I said that under the older easier rules, Man Utd wouldn’t have been able to complete their treble - at least not with the champions league anyway. So in that regard, it was easier for them to win the champions league that season than it would have been when Liverpool were battering “absolute shit”. It’s a counter point to your ”much harder” to win argument. And it’s valid. Get over it.
