We really are in need of Gareth Barry or someone similar. An old wise head in midfield to keep hold of the ball and give the defence a break and the strikers chance to move.
I was at the game today and didn't hear any boos aimed towards him
i thought he did ok and was nice to see him chase down some lost causes. Looked like he gave a damn.
That being said I don't think he is a starter in midfield.
As has been pointed out Wednesday were better first half we were better 2nd. Elphick seems like he will be a proper captain who will give blood sweat and tears for us and I'm hopeful this will translate to the players around him. Not too concerned that we lost as we didn't deserve to, there is plenty to take from that game we can build from.
First game of the season doesn't really tell you too much about how things are going to pan out: don't forget we beat arsenal 3-1 not too long ago and I for one felt we had a real player in Tony Moon!
I am the middle child in my family (older brother, younger sister. They both have learning difficulties as does my mum. My sister had her son taken off her due to issues with violence and anger and my wife and I are special guardians (similar to adoption) for him. Because of this I no longer see my family but contact my brother occasionally.
My wife is the youngest of 3 girls but her family are not as close as they used to be as her dad is quite domineering. I don't really do the family thing but love my wife and son to bits.
Really not surprised. Said when he joined we were a stepping stone so no big loss for me. That's been the problem for us: having players that don't care about the club- we get relegated- they move on.
Early signs are we are getting players in that want to be here and want to help us (hopefully) become up with the elite again. That's what we want fighters and battlers that play with pride for the club not the shop window.
He's not a James Milner, Gareth Barry, Ashley Young, or David Platt. When he signed he made it clear we were a stepping stone and he didn't pull up any trees last season. I for one won't miss him.
Onwards and upwards UTV.
Hopefully all the players reported to be leaving this week will go. Surely that must mean next week will be extremely busy!
I would be a little disappointed to be going to Sheffield Wednesday with what we have now tbh although I would be more confident of us getting a 0-0 draw with our new spine in place.
I really like Gil and I hoped he would become the attacking, skilful, flair player that we have been crying out for. This hasn't happened for a variety of reasons and I doubt it will happen here (or at another club) IMO. Best for him to go and start afresh somewhere else.
I'm quite excited by this link so much so I thought of a song (to the tune of Lola)
"he runs up and down the pitch all day long, gonna help us get back where we belong- tshibola woah woah woah tshibola"
