So frustrating when it seems to be down to bad fortune.
Interesting about your RB, people like to play down the standard of this league and the Premier League in comparison to Europe’s leagues but you so often hear players talk about how difficult it is to play at the pace and physicality of English football.
not 100% on that situation but I’d say no the offside isn’t reviewed. Otherwise they could go back minutes of play to review 50 50s, accidental handballs and a manager stepping onto the pitch. The ambiguity there is whether the offside directly influenced the penalty. I’m sure the authorities have thought of these situations and have protocols though.
The aim is to allow the referee to make a more informed decision if he feels he needs it. Laws in football are subjective so it is only used for when there is no doubt.
We shouldn’t expect it to work for grey areas as that’s not why it’s there. The referee will always have his interpretation of the laws and VAR will allow him to apply it with more information at hand.
Also if VAR was used to overturn that kind of call, you’d get players doing that trick where they kick a defenders leg to get a penalty a hell of a lot more often.
The important thing to note is that decision would have been made without VAR.
So even if it’s a bad call and VAR hasn’t helped it doesn’t mean it’s not still a good thing.
The first and hardest step.
