What’s been done has worked to get England to a semi final, so they’re happy to sit behind “his decisions have been justified”. If this is one of those games a lot of us have expected earlier, where a cagey England get frustrated and sucker punched, then they will start revealing that they loved him and wanted him in all along. In some respects, both camps are right. Southgate has done well to get England where they are, and they would look better with Grealish playing far more.

That ball went out over on the left wing, disgusting from the linesman. Edit, getting confused. There was a blues goal where the bal definitely left the pitch over on the left before being whipped into the box, but it wasn’t that Stern John goal.

Wildly off topic now, but take a look at this: https://www.wired.com/2016/08/olympic-boxers-arent-wearing-headgear-anymore/ Head gear is great for protecting against cuts, abrasion, sharp impacts like elbows etc, but the dull force of a ball landing repeatedly on the head, because the brain is slightly loose inside the skull, it doesn’t do anything. The ball moves the head with the headgear with the same force, and that rocks the brain. just re-read what you said re the padding, but that reduction is so, so minimal.

Agree aside from the headgear, I don’t think it would be at all effective against CTE, the weight of the ball coming down is still fully transferred to the brain rattling around in the skull if we’re talking about the rugby style ones.

Happy to see him back. He’s second in line to Cash but we will need him, he’s had a great season in France from a personal perspective and he’s more than good enough for the squad.
