  1. Not good enough for us, unfortunately. I don't think he was as bad as some on here called him, but he's not the savior we're looking for either. He's a bottom half Prem level player, which was a bargain buy for us as a Championship team not even in playoff contention at the time he penned his contract. Would rather us start to rotate KKH into the squad or if he's not ready yet, find another veteran to fill the gap for a season until he is.

Getting found out this season. Should be the first player we look to upgrade this summer. Midtable Prem defender is his level and will be a solid squad player for a club in European contention, but if he's starting more than 10 games/season, you're going to have a disaster on your hands. Would rather cash in on him this summer and continue with Chambers deputizing for a quality CB.
  3. Yeah, he doesn't want to play the position he's played in throughout his entire youth and professional career. He is a 6... He's also Brazilian, so he plays the game with his brain and technical ability, not brutish strength and crunching tackles. Doesn't mean he's not a DM.
  4. All the wingers were injured or battling their way back to fitness from injury at the start of the season... Traore & Bailey have lived in the treatment room this season, Buendia was not fit to start the season, and "Iron Horse" Watkins missed his first games for us due to injury... We were forced to play Young and El Ghazi on the wings at the start of the season, and even with that kind of service, Ings was banging them in. They're all available for selection now plus Coutinho... Smith at least had an excuse as to why it didn't work... Gerrard has no excuses, especially when you're asking your CBs to bomb forward on the wing in possession. Watch Wolves' first goal again yesterday. When McGinn slips, Konsa is almost standing on the right touchline in the opposition's half and Mings is the only one behind McGinn on the pitch. This is 100% on Gerrard's poor tactical instruction and not the "system". Doesn't matter who we buy or what "system" we play, if he is asking the players to do stupid stuff like this.
  5. I'm not writing off all the good Purslow has done during our time here (Immediate promotion, BMH upgrades, youth/academy overhaul, VP expansion plans, openness with the fans, etc.), but Gerrard's appointment is a disastrous one. You've seen him be a bit ruthless with appointments in the past (Suso, Smith, etc.) and I hope he's man enough to know when he's made a mistake and pull the plug on Gerrard as soon as possible.
  6. So far, Gerrard seems as tactically astute as Tim Sherwood. The only thing he's been good at is attracting higher profile players to Villa than Smith could (Coutinho, Digne, & Chambers). It's good if you want to get neutrals to talk about the Villa and the fans to be a bit optimistic, but I see no reason to continue to give him time other than he hasn't been here "3 years" yet, but Smith was and got just as much out of this squad with less.
  7. We're playing just as poorly as we were under Deano this season, except we now have Coutinho/Digne and all the players injured/unfit for Smith's tenure this season are now available for selection. You could at least see our identity/style under Smith. I have no idea how Gerrard wants the team to play and it's obvious that the players don't either. He tried to play like Rangers did and we've gotten ripped apart in transition over and over and over again. Now? He just seems to be throwing something different on the pitch just to see if it works. Naive young manager making stupid mistakes and seems to be just as clueless as Lampard. Who knew Wayne Rooney would be the "smart" one of those three and has avoided taking a Prem job before he was ready. Will be shocked if Gerrard is still here at the end of next season. Disastrous appointment by Purslow.
  8. I'm officially "Gerrard Out" now. Get this clown out of the club before we spend another 150 million pounds on higher salary players this summer, while still missing out on Europe next season because of this knobhead's clueless tactics.
  9. Hopefully Gerrard get's the sack too. Pathetic.
  10. Disagree... Bailey's 40 yard effort on goal aside, what have we done? We've looked poor going forward...
  11. We don't help them with our exposed high line. I don't have the stats in front of me, but we have to be up there with some of the most goals conceded in transition of all the clubs in the league this season.
  12. Yeah... Smith was sacked for having us play like this... Why does Gerrard get a pass? I haven't seen anything this season to justify the massive squad overhaul we're going to be looking for this summer to support Slippy G's horrible tactics... Also, 2-0. Fook off. I'm out. Enjoy it, lads.
  13. At least we'll be able to sell more shirts while playing mediocre football...
  14. Coutinho is the only positive thing about Gerrard's time in charge so far. Tactically, he's extremely naive and underestimates how poor our defense is in transition. Smith would take too long to switch up his tactics, but Gerrard chops and changes them too much that the players don't know what they're supposed to be doing. When we finally find a system which works (4312) he goes back to the narrow system which we've been woeful with (4321). Now, we're playing 4231 without a defensive midfielder and our CBs are pushing up the pitch like fullbacks, leaving us massively exposed at the back. Gerrard needs to learn that this isn't the SPL... You can't throw everyone forward without consequence.
  15. Sure, he slipped, but Konsa was going walkabout on the right wing there. Extremely poor positioning creating the counter in the first place, but again, McGinn is the fall guy and Konsa is still somehow faultless by VillaTalk...
  16. McGinn isn't at fault for this one... This is 100% Konsa... WTF is he doing way out on the right wing leaving Mings back alone???
  17. Wow... The disrespect of the American team is real! Can't wait for USA vs. Snoregate's tactics. Should be a snoozefest for everyone with some last minute shithousing for a set piece goal.
  18. I still think Newcastle aren't going to be throwing around as much money as everyone is expecting them to. They may get one big money mercenary to join them this summer, but for all their financial clout, the best manager they could attract was Eddie Howe and their January signings were underwhelming. Money alone will only get them so far and time will tell just how willing the Saudis are willing to dump more and more and more into that club.
  19. When you have as much money as Coutinho does, his next contract really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. He could quit playing today and his entire family and future grandchildren would all be set for life. Football, family, and his own happiness will dictate his next move. Like you said, I hope that next move is with us permanently this summer.
  20. This... We also got a pretty hefty loan fee from them, considering the circumstances.
  21. Overreactions on VillaTalk??? Nonsense!!!
  22. This. Barca will have to subsidize some of his wages through the end of his contract in order to get him to sign with us within our salary structure.
  23. Yeah, because we can only have 11 players in our 25 man squad... I can actually see Bailey leaving this summer. Struggled with injuries, shape and formation has changed with Gerrard's arrival, and still could attract a high transfer fee and a lot of interest if we wanted to move him on.
  24. Reading all the comments from random idiots on Twitter and Reddit about this is hilarious... You'd think Coutinho is over the hill, unambitious, and/or gouging us for even entertaining the idea of signing with the mid-table tinpot, "yo yo club", hoofball merchants that are Aston Villa. Some Spurs fans are still convinced that they somehow have an option to buy Coutinho written in Villa's loan agreement with Barca... Can't make this up!
