  1. He's not going to sign a new deal while he's with the England squad in the middle of a tournament... That said, I see him signing one soon. His agent is just trying to get the best deal for him possible and playing time. TBH, he played a lot last season in the Premier League for a player so young. He will continue to grow into the team (like JJ has). Needs to be patient if he isn't willing to go on loan.
  2. I have a feeling that it will be someone absolutely out of left field again who we haven't been linked to yet (but is one of the 300 players linked to Arsenal this window), but will be someone we'll be happy with once we find out who it is... TBH, Lange has a great eye for a deal and knows how to keep it under wraps.
  3. He was also calling up Mason Mount when he was playing for Derby in the Championship... He just doesn't like Jack.
  4. Depends on the terms in their contracts... I'm guessing player power has grown over the past 25 years and the clubs can't take advantage of players the same way they have in the past with clauses preventing this sort of thing from happening again... Either that or there was a lawsuit regarding the legality of the clause to begin with.
  5. Yeah, I think he'll flourish under Mourinho... Roma has been a very interesting project for the Special One so far. It's the first job he's ever had where he has been given a lot of time to build "his team" from the ground up. Dougie will boss the midfield there and the same folks moaning about how shit of a DM he is now will complain about how little of a fee we got for him when he turns into a superstar within a few seasons.
  6. I mean... There was a photo of Stewart Downing with Andy Caroll on holiday together holding a Liverpool scarf in a bar a month before he signed for them. It's been going on forever...
  7. I don't think Dougie was as shit of a DM as VillaTalk would have you believe... He's going to turn into a star under Mourinho at Roma.
  8. This 100%... He's a very solid LB, but some are just assuming he's a great CM because they don't like McGinn.
  9. ...and I see people write off McGinn's best performances for Scotland for no reason other than "it's Scotland."
  10. It's incredibly disappointing to see the poor quality of writing standard the Athletic has for the Villa. I hold a subscription for the NBA content and it's well worth the money... My team's journalist actually is a fan of the team, travels with the team to every game (home and away), has exclusive interviews with the players/coaching staff, and will break actual insider news before other sources. He's the most trusted source for my team and is universally beloved by the supporters, especially because he puts out content every single day during the season and it isn't the same old recycled drivel. Compare that to what Evans puts out for Villa. It's one article a week at best, and nothing new is ever included in the article you couldn't have gleamed from stories written elsewhere. He doesn't interview players/coaching staff, doesn't have an inside scoop at the club, and isn't a fan (so he doesn't really have the pulse of the supporters). TBH, I could do as good of a job covering Villa for the Athletic based in the USA, if that's the level of quality they expect from their Premier League team.
  11. He can be proactive in changing the coaching staff if he isn't getting the results he wants... All our more tenured managers in recent history have changed coaching staff for better or worse. Lambert went through a revolving door of assistants after Culverhouse was sacked, Bruce's team shifted a bit over the 3 seasons he was here, Deano's team changed every year as well. It's like any other business... If there are problems and Gerrard isn't doing a good enough job proactively trying to fix them or explaining what he is doing to resolve them to his superiors in the timeframe they expect, he'll get the sack... Just like everyone before him.
  12. I read his article where he talks about every single player on the books in the senior and U23 squads... Trez is as good as gone now... Negotiating a deal in Turkey this week El Ghazi will be off and there will be interest based on his past goals record for us Hause is on too big of a wage packet and we may be stuck with him unless he wants to take a cut to leave Davis will most likely go to Forest on a permanent deal, just need to negotiate a deal both sides are happy with. If not, there are other interested parties in the Championship Douglas Luiz will be off if we get a good offer for him... Or will stay if that offer never materializes and we offer him a deal more in line with is place in the squad Sanson & Traore will be difficult to move with their deals and we may look at loans for them to try to get over their injuries and find form again first Kalanic and Guilbert may be sold off for peanuts/released because the new loan rules dictate we can only loan out 8 players total next season and will prioritize the youth. Archer and Iroegbunam have every club in the Championship inquiring about loans, with interest also mounting for KKH, JPB, Carney, and the rest of the youngin's
  13. Unlucky to not get on the scoresheet. Had an open goal shot saved off the line by a crazy last ditch effort by a defender stretched running at full speed.
  14. People think Bailey's stepfather is a bad off the field influence... Just wait until you see Rabiot's mother!
  15. He's the second fastest player in the squad without the ball... With the ball, though...
  16. Everyone said the same thing last summer about JJ...
  17. I think the difference is that our focus has shifted over the past two years of recruiting. We don't seem to be after project players any more, we want players who will improve us immediately and get us into Europe consistently. Ings, Buendia, Bailey, Coutinho, Digne, Kamara, & Carlos are all players who are of that caliber on paper when they were signed. Also, we did sign more risky players like that when our budget was smaller... McGinn, El Ghazi, Hause, Guilbert, etc... Fees were small for all these players and while McGinn's value has skyrocketed, we'll still make a profit on the others when we let them go.
  18. Dodged a bullet... Bissouma is incredibly overrated by some on here. You'd think he's both Toure brothers in one, the way some talk about him and makes me wonder if anyone has actually seen him play beyond the handful of times Villa played Brighton recently. We already have our DM... Need a passer now.
  19. He reminds me so much of a young Jermain Defoe... His movement, speed, and finishing from all over the pitch...
  20. He is the Egyptian Brett Holman. A headless chicken who didn't belong in the Prem. We paid less for El Ghazi and he contributed far more to Villa during the same time period than Trez ever did.
  21. Same. He's a shit footballer we massively overpaid for, purely out of hope that he would he'd somehow turn into Salah overnight... He has some of the worst decision making I've ever seen from a Premier League player...
  22. A Balti pie and maybe a kabab/bag of chips should do it.
  23. My read of the situation is that we've already signed our top targets this summer quickly (Coutinho, Kamara, Olsen, & Carlos), but have a pile of cash available to jump on players who become available later in the window and the opportunity presents itself (kind of like Digne last January). We also have a bunch of deadwood we need to clear out and try to get the most for and a bunch of youngsters knocking on the door Gerrard's coaching staff will want to get a better look at in preseason.
