Money alone will attract mercenaries to Tyneside, but they're going to struggle to assemble a team of ambitious winners in a very short period of time.

    I can see Newcastle's spending going one of two ways: FFP is ignored and the Premier League rolls over and looks the other way with sanctions/points reductions out of fear of losing a legal battle against a bottomless pit of money. This opens the door to several other clubs blatantly breaking the rules again. FFP is ignored and the Premier League comes down hard on Newcastle with sanctions/points reductions and they slide down to the Championship. In no way do I see them automatically becoming a Champions League club quickly, just because they have a lot of money.

    The thought alone of VT malding for the next 6 months over signing Chambers to be our starting DM makes me want this to actually happen now. On another note, I don't think DM is as much of a need as everyone else here seems to think... This window is still a 10 out of 10 for me. COUTINHO & DIGNE!!!!

    Can't write a story about Villa without somehow including Spurs in it... Just like when we signed Coutinho, stories about Spurs also having a release clause added into his deal surfaced.

    Why? Because some journalist with a poor track record has said the deal is off? There are three contradicting reports all released at the same time by different sources... TBH, nobody knows what is happening right now.

    My Fulham supporting mate says we got a steal here. Says he was their best player for them their last season in the Prem (won their Player of the Year award). Wanted to sign him permanently, but the deal couldn't be done with Arsenal. He's cheap, has international experience, and has a point to prove at this point in his career. I'm 100% on board with this one.

    Last season we were a 2 man team - Grealish & Martinez. This season, we reinvested the Jack money and then some in quality throughout the squad... Buendia, Ings, Bailey, Coutinho, Digne, Olsen, Bentancur, & possibly Tarkowski... Martinez Cash - Tarkowski - Mings - Digne McGinn - Bentancur - Douglas Luiz Buendia - Coutinho Watkins Bench: Olsen Kessler-Hayden Konsa/Hause Targett/Young Ramsey/Sanson Bailey/Carney Ings Just look at that bench... Last season we had El Ghazi, Davis, Nakamba, Elmo, & Trezeguet on the bench... Now, we have genuine depth/competition for places and plenty of players who can be impact subs/rotation players.

    Agreed, but his contract expires at the end of the season and will be looking to cash in on him now if he won't sign a new deal. The wage packet we'd offer him to be competing with Konsa for the job would be much higher than what he would make starting in the Championship for Burnley.

    Would love Tarkowski, myself. Experienced Prem player and Engerland International who is much better than Tuanzebe and slightly better than Konsa (who himself hasn't been impressive this season). More competition for places is a good thing.

    TBH, this is exactly what Bentancur sounds like he does, but because nobody here watches Italian football it's just page after page of "Why aren't we paying 50 million for Bissouma instead?"

    I love it... Some are already writing him off because he isn't the mythical brick shithouse DM they've been fantasizing about for years now. Smith didn't want one, now Gerrard doesn't seem to want one either... Guess they'll have to keep complaining about this until the next manager comes in.

    TBH, I don't know much about him. The one thing that I do know is that we're now shopping in a different market than we were previously. Instead of paying full price to buy the best players from the clubs below us and hope they continue to perform at the same level for us (Buendia, Cash, Watkins, etc.), we're trying to find very high quality players who are undervalued at their current clubs for one reason or another (Coutinho, Digne, Olsen, Bentancur, etc.). Best window I can ever remember as a Villa supporter.

    The one that stands out is Tammy Abraham's highlight reel of misses that a Chelsea fan put together. He has an almost 1 goal in 2 game ratio in all competitions at Roma so far.

    This... I see him as direct competition for Luiz in this role with Nakamba being sold on this summer. I don't see Dougie going anywhere right now and will probably sign a new contract soon.

    Finally... Now everyone can stop crying about needing a DM and we can get back to moaning about Mings's mistakes in every thread. Seriously, though. Would be a very class signing if we can pull this off. Stunned at the profile of player we're managing to attract this window.
