Is that so we can win a ....... cuppa two? I thank you, I am here all week
-
Very very worrying stuff. Despite all the forum rumours, I still don't think a takeover is imminent. Lerner is just happy to keep Villa at their current level on a shoestring budget.
-
It's all very strange, especially given that these were people Lambert had worked with for years.
-
Does anyone else get random Facebook requests from complete strangers? Have had a few in the last few weeks and got another one today. No mutual friends, or any at all, actually. Odd.
-
I think the players still like Lambert personally. This is blummin' intriguing though.
-
What worries me is that in some ways its a win-win situation for the board. If Lambert continues to do badly and is sacked, I'm sure we'll then hear about how the new managers job is going to be tough at first, as we head into another season of transition. There will be all sorts of talk of "the project" and "the future" but the reality will be, as it is now (IMO), the board have no plans to heavily invest in the squad, with or without the scapegoated big wage earners. It's bad.

The Ex-Villa Player thread - Keeping tabs on old Villans

Ireland's signed a new three-year deal at Stoke http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11701/9266740/stoke-midfielder-stephen-ireland-signs-new-three-year-contract -
Completely agree that it is insulting. No doubt it took them about five minutes to type out.

The only Ivory Coast player I need! Excellent, I'll choose one off your list tomorrow and we can sort something out! -
Who realistically should be the next villa manager?

For me the most frustrating thing about Lerner is his complete secrecy. Surely some sort of statement of intent wouldn't be too hard to post online, that would be something. Hiding away just makes him look utterly disinterested.
-
It is starting to seem like Lambert is struggling. My only worry with a managerial change though is that we'll have another 'rebuilding' season and be back to square one.
-
Was it an exciting 0-0? It wasn't awful but you can't help feeling short-changed after witnessing a goalless draw!
-
Rotherham v Bradford tonight on Sky, should be a decent game. Some feat to get to third in the league after promotion (Rotherham)!
-
I can't think of another owner quite like Lerner. He really doesn't seem interested at all in the team, apart from a few reports that he calls Lambert every week and watches every game on telly. Still, personally I don't see that much to suggest Lerner is interested in selling.

2014 FIFA World Cup Brasil Panini Sticker Album - Swapsies
Chap of Steel replied to GarethRDR's topic in Other Football
Yep, got one today. Bought quite a lot of stickers too so will have to add some in later tonight. It's quite useful as it seems there's a lot of players I wasn't aware of! Good preparation for watching the World Cup. Here's my list for trade: Mathew Leckie (AUS) 182 Aldo Ramírez (COL) 192 Serge Aurier (CIV) 226 Yasuhito Endo (JAP) 251 Fernando Muslera (URU) 262 Jerome Boateng (GER) 493 Ricardo Costa (POR) 514 Harrison Afful (GHA) 532 Asamoah Gyan (GHA) 544 -

Now that I've seen this thread I really want the book.. -
Source two has stated that it's "signed, sealed & awaiting delivery" Hope its true but that sounds like Twitter talk to me
-
It's all a bit odd to be honest. Don't think he'll ever play for us again sadly.
-
Now people can't keep posting that daft stat about not scoring in X amount of games
-
Constant mentions of 'rebuilding' the squad are quite clever as they make fans think we're on the brink of greatness again, aided by the scapegoating of the 'big wage' players. That way fans will keep showing up in the hope that the new and improved era of Villa is just around the corner. Don't get me wrong, hovering around 12-13th, while boring, is an improvement. But next season there needs to be significant investment for us to progress, otherwise I'll personally start properly doubting the 'project'.

I've always got the impression that Lambert likes big personalities. Vlaar, Guzan, etc. Look at Ireland and N'Zogbia. Lambert has said that he thought both were decent players. But they generally came across as moody and lacking passion. Gabby, as a local lad with a certain affinity with the fans, probably has a positive effect on the rest of the team. Whatever you think of him he really does care about Villa, IMO. For this reason I reckon Lambert would see him as worth the new contract.

Will be interesting to see Kismet's reaction if Benteke has an awful World Cup campaign!
