Watching the match tonight was rather strange. I couldn't help but think "is it really right/fair that a team can be so dominant against another in the same league?" Does it contradict the notion of the sport?
Of course I'd probably have a different view if Villa had similar financial backing
Apparently we're after Kevin Vogt. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/aston-villa-and-hull-city-to-do-battle-for-german-star-kevin-vogt-9324812.html
Our youth team won the 'Next Gen' series and it would be our reserves being promoted to the first team squad not our youth team.
My mistake, thanks for pointing out
I'm not sure fast-tracking reserves into the squad would help either though. It's worked for Southampton but they've not been afraid to spend on high quality players to compliment their own academy examples.
What worries me about Fulham is that their two games are winnable. Neither Stoke or Palace have too much to play for.
Fulham, despite bottling it against Hull, have shown that they might have a bit of fight in them and they've won two of their last four games
After considering all eventualities I think we'd be quite unlucky to go down in terms of results going against us.
However, I do think we'll finish 17th.
One of the main things for me is that in January 2013 we signed Sylla and Dawkins on loan.
Yeah we stayed up and the gamble paid off but that is unforgivable IMO.
The project is, in my opinion, nothing more than a clever PR ploy to make it seem like we're constantly improving.
Finishing where we did last season wasn't great but many saw it as a springboard to success. If we were to finish around 13th this season then Villa could still just about paint it as progression again.
In my opinion, though, Villa have no plans to build on the newly-lowered wage bill and finishing around the bottom of the table is the height of ambition for Lerner-run Villa.
Chelsea starting XI not as weak as I thought, though a first start for Kalas
Schwarzer, Azpilicueta, Ivanovic, Kalas, Cole, Lampard, Mikel, Matic, Salah, Schurrle, Ba
Lose against Sunderland and I don't think we need worry about Cardiff. They have games against Newcastle (who will be looking to end the season on a high) and Chelsea.
Fulham are who I'm worried about. Two games against teams on their holidays (Stoke and Crystal Palace). I do think Norwich will save us though.
Seems a million miles away now that we were once a fairly exciting project with a distinct counter-attacking style that pundits praised.
I'm afraid to say I was fooled by the clever narrative created by Villa's PR.
