  1. As sad as this sounds - some councillor would happily sanction the 20million of the publics money, so long as him and his daughter can get a selfie with Deadpool.

This is the season to have a reset. Sheff + Luton guaranteed to go down. You just need to be better than Burnley or Everton and you'll be safe. They'll be fine.

Mcginn was hopeless under Gerrard. I'd have been really upset if he left, because we all know how good he can be in the right circumstances.
  4. The Premier League is a multi billion pound business. Businesses want to make money, that's the point. The Premier League makes a lot more money from abroad when Man U, Liverpool etc are towards the top of the league. Taking "worldwide brands" and replacing them with the like of Newcastle, Villa, Brighton, Wolves is extremely bad for business. Expect a HELL of a lot more of these decisions and apologies.
  5. Managed to catch the end of the game. He stayed squarely in between the 2 centre backs and didn't drop at all. He's not an "on the shoulder" striker, so will be interesting to see how they use him.

I think you can give the player a long contract but can only amortise (spread the financial cost) over 4/5 years on the books.

Indeed, and quite a few of them will be misses rather than hits. Not because they are bad players, but because Brighton scout specifically for players whose attributed fit their system.
  8. Watching Maddison and his set piece deliveries yesterday, its a good job for us Kane left. He'd score an absolute hatful if he stayed.
  9. Their league position, will comes down to the same thing - players mentality. Clearly they are good enough to be in the top 5/6 again on paper. However, Wednesday night at St James Park: Newcastle Vs Real Madrid would be insane, massive atmosphere - big energy. The players who are born winners will be able to follow that up by beating a Crystal Palace, Brentford the following Saturday. You can't be 5/10 percent off in the premier league.
  10. Those new rules will be "forgotten" by the times the clocks go back. Unless of course a midtable team is winning 1:0 at the Etihad then the rules will magically be reapplied for 14 minutes of added time.
  11. It's more than that. Ukraine have decreed that any ships leaving these specific Russian ports are targets of war (which is completely legal and what Russian have done to the grain ships). Therefore now, Insurance companies won't touch any cargo or oil ships. This will massively cripple Russian exports.
  12. If he stays, next summer will look like this. Haaland > Madrid Kane > Man City

Fabio Silva was the huge warning sign for me (ironically he's finally turning into a decent player). Porto (to which Mendes has close ties) were struggling financially and had a 30 million hole in their finances, then Wolves buy a completely average, untried 18 year old who'd only made 12 senior appearances for 32 million.

    Liverpool

There's an unnamed club who made a 70million bid for Caceido. Really wouldn't be surprised if it was Liverpool as they really need a strong DM.

Their number 1 target Alex Scott from Bristol is going to Bournemouth by the look of it. Ouch! Wonder if they are selling up or doing a Randy Lerner?
  16. Sell him with a buy back clause (Man City love to do this). Win win for us. If he's good in the PL and we pay the fee he will always come back to Villa.
  17. Can't forget they had 2x 6/7th place finishes, they genuinely were the "best of the rest" for a couple of seasons. It's a poor transfer window and the Conference League that killed them last season. Ironically, that's why I can't see us finishing anywhere near top 6 next season. I think 10-12 and a long run in the Conference league / winners is a good season.
  18. Generally speaking - older / former soviet people will be annoyed, but if they are pro Ukrainian then its a minor inconvenience. Younger / European people (under 40) celebrated it on the 25th December anyway. We celebrate our christmas as usual on 25/12, my wife's parents celebrate it 2 weeks later. Just how it is.

Emery failed at PSG and Moscow. Doesn’t mean he’s not elite.

They’ll be fine, comfortable mid table as long as lopetegui is there. He’s an elite manager. However if a Saudi club came in now, or a bigger club sacked their manager mid season then I make them 3/4th favourites to go down. That’s how good he is.
  21. Obviously, not at the same level - but we are in a slight Harry Kane / Spurs situation. To get someone better than Watkins would cost 60 million and still be a huge gamble. A mid level player wouldn't join to sit on the bench. They may as well go to lower table team and play every week. Our best hope is getting a young prospect which we tried with Duran.
  22. Would go as far as saying the outcome of the next US election will determine who "wins the war". If the democrats win there will be at least 4 more years of heavy miliary support which will finish off Russia. If a Ron De Santis gets in, then it's up to the generosity of European countries.
  23. Whilst the USA media were pointlessly focused on an already blown up submersible to be recovered. Joe Bidens Son cut a plea deal for tax evasion. Undeclared taxes as they were from foreign entities / lobbying allegedly on behalf of his father. As part of the plea deal he talked himself out of the gun possession whilst a known drug offender which is a mandatory prison sentence of up to 10 years. *puts on tin hat*
  24. People on here are far more qualified than me, but just shows how poorly equipped and trained the Russian soldiers here are. The ony guy does even check the corner at all.
