  1. Or he can fight for his place, prove his worth and become a star.
  2. Love the man, but I can't help but think we saw the best 6 months of his career last season, and he really did drop off quite badly. For me - sell as log as the bid is high enough - £5m? If we went up, he would be surplus to requirements. At this level Green should start every week. He's not young, and probably on a decent whack. Why wouldn't we sell our 2nd choice right winger?
  3. He's our best striker, but I believe he actually can hurt our team as well as win games. At his age, with his injury record, and on his salary - I would take any offer of more than £12m. I suspect we need the cash, and if selling him means we can keep Jack, then that is best. Not ideal, but think we have a loan lined up (Abraham or that Man City lad), plus RHM, Hogan, Davis - which given we play with one up front should be enough.
  4. There are simply too many unknowns in all of this; the £40m figure is based on the historical accounts we know, but the accounts do not give sufficient information to make this figure anything other than a best guess. We all know that Terry, Gabby, Samba etc have gone - we have a decent idea of salaries for these. We've also lost Snoddy, Onomah, Johnstone etc. - but we don't know how much their loan fees were or how much of their salaries that we were paying. We had players out on loan - Gardner, Gill, Gollini, etc - we don't know if we received loans fees or how much of their salaries we were still paying. Some have now gone permanently, so we can only guess at their effect on the accounts. We've got the potential for income from Traore's transfer to the Dogheads, for example; how much isn't certain but it's a few £m I believe. We also got about £1m (?) from Westwood's transfer to Burnley. Is there anything else out there for Veretout, Amavi etc? I remember Dr Tony tweeting something about making sure we get a further return from players in ther future? And then there's the really fun bit; how much have we written down players contracts/values as a result of relegation? This could have had a massive negative affect on previous accounts which is a one off transaction meaning the following year will see a bounce. I know we had cash-flow issues a few months ago; but cash and profit do not necessarily follow each other in the short term - especially in football when timing difference can stretch over years. When we sign a player for, say, £10m, that value hit's the accounts immediately. However, that cash is often paid over a few seasons, meaning we could be much better off on paper now than we are in cash terms, as we're still paying for players and managers who joined/left 2 or 3 years ago! My advice - let the club handle it; and cross our fingers that the current lot are better at this than the last lot!! UTV
  5. He will have my support when he's wearing the shirt. I hope he rediscovers the form of a couple of years ago, but to be fair it's hardly a high risk transfer. **** knows why we need so many right sided players - I can only assume there's at least 2 due to be shipped out. If it means we can lose Richards and Hutton, he's already paid for himself twice over!!!
  6. Jordan Veretout will move to St Etienne for £5m rising with add-ons to £7m - the same amount he cost Villa two years ago from Nantes. There's also a significant sell-on fee if Veretout leaves St Etienne. This is according to Pat Murphy - which seems OK to me. We took a chance on a player, who didn't step up.
  7. Think Barry is a good shout in a player/coach role. I think as a coach he would be demanding (not sure what I base that on, but I still believe it), so not sure if the current set-up would welcome that! As a player, he could cover midfield and defense. He never had pace, so he never had it to lose but his brain should still work! I know it's a different position, but Sheringham was still doing a good job in the PL into his 40s.
  8. It appears the general consensus is fine tuning rather than another overhaul; I'd agree with that 100%. We need to build assuming promotion, so we can't afford to simply buy Championship squad players who we (hopefully) will want to sell next summer. But we cannot ignore FFP and need to be sensible, like the business in January. Obviously, clearing a load of deadwood out will help enormously. A new keeper won't be disruptive to the squad, unless he's shit. We definitely need a new CB; whether to replace Baker in the team or act as back up should depend upon what's available and for how much. If Amavi goes, either risk De Laet or Hutton providing cover, or get someone in akin to Bree, who will develop. Someone to cover Jedi is very important. If it isn't Lyden, then I suspect we will have to spend good money in this position. Left wing seems a odd claim for some; we have Thor and Green - why would we need more? Grealish and even Kodjia can cover, albeit not brilliantly. Upfront, Kodjia and Hogan need to develop together, but I suspect as a Plan B as we seem set-up for 4-3-3 at present. Perhaps bring in a loanee as cover, as we shouldn't be spending big money on this position for a 3rd transfer window running.
  9. Terriblly sad. RIP Ugo.
  10. We have to resist further major surgery. There's loads we could move out without upsetting the squad - Gabby, Richards, Kozak, Cisshoko, Veretout, Gil, Sanchez, Bunn/Steer, Golllini, McCormack - and this would free up an awful lot of money. We then need to focus on 2 areas: First teamers - bring in those who will start only. The squad has enough depth. Future stars - we must never stop doing this; it's what Spurs have done for years and is doing them a lot of good. I guess the list of those we should move on may grow as youngsters step up (RHM, Green, Lyden, Bree, Bedeau, Suliman, Toner). It could also grow if the right starters join. I'm thinking Tish, De Laet, Elphick, Gardner, Bacuna and perhaps even Grealish. The key is, how the **** do we shift that lot - 10 totally surplus, plus another 5 or 6 dependant on youngsters/signings.
  11. Genuinely wish the guy well. As many have said, he didn't deserve the abuse he got, and I think he suffered from the pile of shite around him on many occasions. I suspect he won't go on to bigger and better things in his career, but he tried hard and genuinely seemed to give a shit about the club. As fans, we can ask no more from a man. When he walks back into Villa Park next season, I hope he gets a reasonable round of applause - more abuse would be unfair.
  12. Aston Villa FC ‏@AVFCOfficial 17m17 minutes ago More Transfer news: @AaronTshibola has joined @NFFC on loan until the end of the season. Full details: http://bit.ly/2k8E8Cq #AVFC #NFFC Confirmed - good luck to him.
  13. I'll reserve judgement, but it is a little confusing to me. He's been a regular in the Swansea team, but doesn't seem to be highly rated, he's nearly 28 so should be at his peak, and he had a bad injury and I'm not sure he's come back as strong. In my opinion, with full backs, it's about getting the right style of player in for the team. Who's better - Maldini or Roberto Carlos? Each suited their teams style of play. Note: I am in no way comparing Maldini, Roberto Carlos and Neil Taylor - other than that they are all international full backs. And so is Alan Hutton!
  14. If he's not been mentioned because he's a no-name (taking on board that they could still be brilliant), then Bruce is seriously trolling the fans.
  15. Looks like he binned off Bedeau for Rachel Riley. Which is fair enough.
  16. He needs to play. Not sure about his future though, as I'm not sure what he actually brings in any sort of system. He's certainly not a holding midfielder; I'm not seen any evidence that he's got the range of passing (which is what Westwood should, but fails to bring) or enough goals in him (replace Westwood comment with one about Gardner) for the various other roles. Do we need a 'runs around a lot' player? A loan to see how he develops will be good for all concerned.
  17. That's how I read it (assuming it Rhodes and Grealish)
  18. But when you inherit a pile of shite no-one will buy - swap deals are your only option!
  19. {(75%-(75%+X))+50%+50%)*1/3} One swap deal, with a fee adjustment in our favour (the X) at 75%; 2 deals at 50% - only expect one of these will go through? (-95%-50%) 2 outs; 1 at 95%, 1 at 50%? (+50%-50%) Another swap deal at 50% - seemingly a straight swap? +50% One incoming at 50%?

  21. £6m or so in the bank is more use that him in the squad in my opinion. No idea why they've signed him - he's hardly going to thrive off Adama is he? Seems a thoroughly decent bloke, so we might miss him off the pitch, but we just can't play to his limited strengths. He wasn't a proper "plan B" anymore than sticking Baker upfront would be.
  22. Does that make him double shit? Is that worse than just shit?
  23. Dr. Tony Xia ‏@Dr_TonyXia 2h2 hours ago We have to wait until we compete all the working visa approval process. It's life... Stew bow @Stewbow1 @Dr_TonyXia are we announcing our new signing after tonight's match against Huddersfield town? Half time would be better surely? Subtle again from our owner! Sure the working visa could apply to anyone without EU nationality, but...
  24. Did we? Worlds gone mental!
