  1. I think it's all to do with who is paired together. Remember, it wasn't too long ago he was playing and looked terrible, like he did last season. For me, the change in performance has something to do with the playing partner. I'm guessing that Clark and Okore have been spending a lot of time together as a partnership in training and have developed a good understanding, hence the the better better defensive displays. We all also need to remember the quality of the opposition they've played against before getting carried away.
  2. Your point is a very valid but scary one to make! Let's hope that the players and coaching staff are aware of this.
  3. Guzan needs a big shout out too. Massive player for us!
  4. Cole going off so early did us a huge favour because Sanchez has been immense tonight.
  5. Having just slagged off both Gabby and Benteke, I am now going against my better judgement and predict that they will both score in what will be a very unlikely Villa win
  6. Gabby and Benteke have been absolutely shiite so far. My 14 month old son has better control than those two have tonight!
  7. He sounds like Harold Steptoe! You diirrtee uld maaaaaaan
  8. Lambert seems to have resulted to ensuring defensive stability, which kind of counteracts his pre-match statements where he says we'll have a go at teams. All I know is, as a fan and spectator, we always look like we make sure we get men back goal side as much as possible. I just wish that we'd play with a bit of reckless abandonment for a game or two just to see how that works, for a change.
  9. I'm going to predict a loss at Palace, a draw at Leicester and then defeat v the Baggies and then Lambert getting the bullet and replaced by Pulis.
  10. That would fit as I very much doubt Lambert's job is secure. Better to see whether how we get on and decide whether we need to get rid and get a whole new management team. That there is a very good point. Also, it's one that will make a lot of Villa fans happy the longer the wait goes on.
  11. When all is said and done Lambert is the manager and in most, if not all, vocations that's where the blame lies for failure. 13 points after 13 games following our best start to a season or yonks is just ridiculous. Trying to hold on to 1-0 leads and face onslaughts against Southampton and Burnley is also ridiculous. The guy just does not seem to be able to change this and stop it from happening game after game, which leads me to believe he wants it to be that way, which is also ridiculous. If we wait until after Christmas to change manager it will be too late. Lerner should act sooner, if at all, and allow a new man plenty of time to turn it it around.
  12. That's the price you pay for supporting a top four side!
  13. The favourite Villa shirt thread, and Gareth's never ending collection of shirts, got me wondering what else other Villa fans had collected over the years. I have a few things, old programmes mainly but, I do have three prized possessions. An unused (f**king dreadful, I know) match ticket, for the European Cup Final, signed by Allan Evans with the final programme - bought for £10 in 1988 at a Villa programme fayre at the back of the North stand. For the record, I was 10 in 1982 and had nobody to take me to the final! Gutted! An official Villa club football signed by the entire 1994 League Cup final winning squad - a Coventry supporting in-law saw it a car boot and bought it with me in mind, for £6. An official Villa club record (book) of every player who'd played for us up until 1988 (time of print) and got it signed by the entire squad plus Graham Taylor. Sent it back to Bodymoor Heath at a date and got it signed by a few more players. Also got Jimmy Macewan to sign it. He was a player from back in the day who used to visit the shop I used to work at in Erdington. If there's already a thread for this mods, please relocate for me?
  14. This is scary but I keep getting this thought in my head that we lose this game 0-6 and it's followed by mass protests. I don't know why as, despite the scoreline, I couldn't see the masses turning on the club. I just hope that vision is wrong!!
  15. Only ever had one player's name on the back of my shirt and that was GOD 5 My most recent favourite is the first Acorns home shirt, I loved that. My first ever pic of me in a Villa shirt shows me wearing the home shirt circa 1980, so always had a love for that shirt.
  16. Played 12 games this season and scored in only 4! That statistic is one to be ashamed of. Funny how that comes out at almost the same percentage as people voting for Lambert to go.
  17. I am personally not that bothered either. I just wanted an over inflated fee as hes English to help rebuild our squad. Yet he may go on a free. This is where the club - Lambert and Lerner - appear to have failed. They should have realised the importance of Delph and Vlaar last season and extended their contracts. We wouldn't now be concerned about losing two of our prized assets for nothing.
  18. Has he said he is leaving? If not, I think it's harsh to criticise the guy. And, even if he says he wants to leave: 1) Why does this surprise any Villa fans? As soon as any of our recent best players have put on an England shirt they've been linked with the "top clubs". 2) Why waste the best years of your career playing for a struggling side year after year, with no signs of a revival in sight? To be fair, although he's had a decent season and a quarter, I personally think he will look average at best if he plays for any of the top 5 or 6 clubs. We've got one of the worst Villa midfields ever so it doesn't take a lot to look the best of that lot!
  19. If Vlaar is going then God help us if we don't replace him with someone decent. Without him in our team the last two seasons, we would have gone down IMO.
  20. Do you think it possible that we could fetch more for a mentally detached player than we would for a semi mentally detached?
  21. In hindsight the big fella probably regrets doing what he did but, in the heat of the battle and with how Mason stuck his head in his face, I can understand his actions and don't blame him for the defeat at all. I blame the 4th official for being a blind and/or cheating tw*t and not grassing Mason up as well! If he'd done his job properly, we probably would have gone on to win the game.
  22. Those next 6 games have to bring in a minimum of 9 points. As for the next win, it should be Burnley but, without Benteke, I wonder if it is possible. I can see us losing the next two games and then drawing at Burnley so, my next win prediction is going to be Leicester at home.
  23. Big Chris looks back to his old self, which will be bad news for us in about 8 months time when he leaves for a the better club. He'll probably come back hungry and bang in 10-15 goals before the end of the season. That's what will attract the buyers.
  24. I'm all for him being replaced but today IS NOT HIS FAULT. Take the blinkers off and see what's really cost us today.
  25. Give him a chance before writing him off!
