  1. Similar picture for Bournemouth: 1-1 West Ham 0-2 Spurs Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal 0-4 Wolves 1-2 Burnley 2-1 Liverpool 1-2 Newcastle 2-0 So 8 points from 8.
  2. That last sentence sounds a bit grudging. I think we did a bit more than “at least” taking the initiative in the second half. I’m pretty sure Emery, Edens and Sawiris won’t give a tinker’s cuss about the “doubters” and won’t see their main preoccupation as winning them over. We just need to go on accumulating points in the way we have been so far this season and the players need to keep working at mastering the way Emery wants them to play. They have been getting better progressively since October 2022.
  3. So it’s partly about effective squad building. When Mings got his ACL, we had Pau Torres to step up. We have also been able to cover the absence of Buendia and Ramsey with any number of quality midfielders. Over to you, Spurs, how come with all your years of lavish spending, you are hosting a “second string squad” that you have to wheel out when you have some injuries and suspensions?
  4. See your point but actually we have Ramsey and Moreno back - Ramsey came on as a sub on Sunday.
  5. Not sure if that is how it works! On that basis, shouldn’t the match have been declared a draw? Unai made changes at half time that were massively influential in swinging the game our way. Doesn’t that make his performance at least “good”? BTW, we ended the “criminal” first half at 1-1 didn’t we? Not bad against the (then) fourth-placed team.
  6. With the exceptions of Palace, Wolves and AZ Alkmaar.
  7. Quite like the way, as the goals pile up, they seem to tone down the celebrations. Maybe not wishing to disrespect an obviously inferior side.
  8. Most of the reporting seems to be based on a kneejerk reaction from Pat Nevin who spoke of McGinn’s season being potentially “trashed” by his injury. Nevin has no idea what this injury was and thus was speaking complete bollocks. McGinn gave post match interviews and didn’t even mention an injury. Let’s wait to see what Emery says in the presser.
  9. I THINK It’s a dance done by American football players to celebrate a touch down - a little stampy sort of dance. Possibly called griddy because of grid-iron helmets? Anyway now it is definitely called the McGriddy.
  10. So it seems he may be doing a little bit better than the negative commentary of the past couple of pages would suggest. Just fancy that!
  11. Yes, Wrighty seems to have calmed his earlier worries about our high line! Really interesting discussion on the video above. Good to see some emphasis on how well the existing players have responded to the new regime. I can’t really think of one that hasn’t been playing more positively and skilfully under Emery and this shows they have great attitude and desire to improve. It also shows they were well recruited even if previous managers couldn’t get as much out of them as Emery has.
  12. Well deserved call up to the England squad. Let’s hope he gets the chance to show what he can do.
  13. Best thing is I can play commentator high line bingo when watching our matches on tv. As soon as the opposition launch a high ball over our defence and get caught offside, the commentators start babbling about the “high line” and never stop. My high line bingo card is soon full! BTW Dion Dublin doesn't like it so that’s a bit of a con I guess.
  14. Love it. Match Of The Day Commentator: ”John McGinn, or ‘Super John McGinn’ to give him his full title”
  15. It’s just wrong to say he’s been very poor. What is the point of constantly posting stuff like this?
  16. Just checking, have you missed his three goals, three assists and two occasions when he has pressed a defender into scoring an own goal?
  17. I never really get this dynamic where a handful of posters pick on a particular player and constantly pour out negative messaging about them. Torres has been a victim of this, as has Tielemans, but the current top whipping boy is clearly Zaniolo. My take on him is simple. Emery brought him into the squad and clearly rates him because he keeps putting him in the team. He obviously has potential and Villa fans should be hoping he will fulfil it, because that would be good for the team and make us stronger and more successful. Better approach than constantly twisting and turning to find ways to denigrate the efforts of one of our own squad.
  18. Listened to this on Radio 5 Live Extra and the main topic was John McGinn’s backside, which was discussed in some detail by the commentators. He gets MOTM just for that.
  19. Tielemans has earned his start. Let’s hope he delivers
  20. We’ve played a handful of games at home and a handful away so far this season. It is perhaps a bit early to be talking about “form” at either locations, certainly not enough to back up some of the long dissertations we have here about what is “going wrong” away from home. Let’s see how things pan out over the full span of this very exciting season. It doesn’t seem too bad so far.
  21. Quite an uncomfortable match, we controlled play a lot but didn’t really have a cutting edge in front of goal.Watkins was weirdly out of it much of the game. Superb goal when it mattered though. I had to watch the first half with no sound so I never heard an explanation of why Lenglet’s goal was disallowed. I watched it being replayed over and over but still couldn’t see what VAR did. Mystifying, and it would probably have made it a much easier match if it had stood. Thought Digne, Tielemans, Carlos, Kamara and Lenglet had good games but, as I say, while the Conference starting XI play nice football, the route to goal tonight seemed unclear. The real difference was made by Douglas Luiz so he gets my MOTM. Excellent subs by Emery late in the game. We know what we need to do against Legia on 30 Nov. Onwards and upwards!
  22. LOL the BBC spurts app is so excited they’ve just told me 3 times we are 2-1 up. Just need to keep control now & play the game out.
  23. Still don’t see that we have any real sense of how we can win this.
