  1. We were strangely hesitant for the first 20 minutes or so, in all aspects of our play. Odd because overall we defended pretty well but in defence and attack we were a bit sluggish and maybe lacking in confidence or overwhelmed by the significance of the match? Once we had a goal, all of that seemed to disappear. We took control of the match and confined Wolves to counterattacking, which we generally dealt with comfortably. What a goal it was from Diaby by the way, superb placing and a blistering shot. He seems to be running into a rich vein of form and is now giving us exactly the sort of performance we might have hoped for when we signed him. That and his excellent assist for the second goal, as well as his general play throughout gave him MOTM for me. There were strong performances all over the pitch - special shouts out to Konsa, Torres, Tielemans, Bailey, and Douglas Luiz.Well done too to the two youngsters Rogers and Duran who are hailing to shoulder more responsibility than they might have expected at this stage in their time with Villa. Depending in the injury news with Watkins, Duran may have a much bigger role in the run in.
  2. Actually, in the end, we did spank them even with all the absences and using two trainees.
  3. Ah, another little step in the inevitable process of VillaTalk turning against Emery. He’s got us to fourth with a squad that really shouldn’t be there, and the quarters of the Conference, another competition we really shouldn’t be in, but, yeh, the guy has no idea what he’s doing…
  4. Ther should have been two bookings there. Rogers was held back by two players.
  5. Another slow, tentative start. Expect a Wolves goal soon.
  6. Let’s hope the manager and the players have a bit more faith thank you.
  7. Bayern have had 6 coaches since Pep left in 2016. If Emery fancies a chaotic, toxic 18 months max managing a club who change managers more frequently than their owners’ underpants, this would be an ideal appointment for him.
  8. Yes, in 2007-8 we scored 71 premier league goals. Worth noting that we added another 5 in cup competitions. This season we have already scored 60 in the premier league and a further 27 in cup competitions. I haven’t checked but it’s a fair bet we have already scored more goals overall this season than in any other season in the “premier league era”.
  9. The Mail is a despicable paper whose main objective seems to be to drive standards of journalism to ever new lows.
  10. They still have to fit in an away match to Chelsea and home to Man City so things will be a little bit uncomfortable for them I suspect.
  11. It’s not “odd” at all for a club to be celebrating a good international performance from one of their own players. Mind you, I do wonder if they did this specially to taunt all Youri’s many detractors on Villatalk!
  12. Maybe some good will come of this.
  13. Whatever, it seems like a storm in a teacup..
  14. Right, got it now. It seems he is making a general point that playing for the Jamaican national team doesn’t raise the profile of players - it’s rather the other way round that the Jamaican team benefits from its players getting high profiles through success at top clubs. From the context, it’s hard to see that he is saying he actually expects Real Madrid to be phoning him any time soon. I don’t know anything about how the Jamaican Federation treats its players but if it is anything like the way Cricket West Indies treats its top players, this exchange is the least surprising I have ever heard.
  15. I struggled to pick up any reference to Real Madrid tbf
  16. OK, I will call for this one. What are “PKatt”s and why is Douglas Luiz the only one who’s got any of them?
  17. Hi, just had a text from Jhon Duran. He wants to know why you have hijacked his thread to squabble pointlessly among yourselves about some guy called “Gabby”.
  18. BTW that was premier league goal no. 60 today, 4th best in the PL. Compared with season totals of 51 and 52 in the previous two seasons. We also have the 6th best defensive record in the league.
  19. Quite. I think I even read in the past week someone saying they never wanted to see him in a Villa shirt again, And yet suddenly he is apparently the obvious choice to start at RB. Gotta love VT sometimes…
  20. How many times have I read that after a match? It’s our main Achilles heel and has cost us a few points this season (have to keep remembering though, we are fourth, which is not too shabby). Lots of people here apparently think the starting line up was weird/disastrous etc. but we actually started the match really well and had West Ham on the back foot for the opening phase of the game. Then we lost control through poor defensive work, then we got momentum back after the 2nd half substitutions. Like you, I can’t quite buy into the narrative that this was a disaster. I thought the half time substitutions were decisive and effective, indicating a manager who knows what he is doing.
  21. I’ve been waiting for the day that VillaTalk turns against Emery and I’m wondering if this is it. Perfectly justified of course - a disastrous performance today to keep us 3 points clear in 4th place.
  22. Would have taken a draw before we started and I think it’s a fair reflection of how we came back in the second half. Good use of subs by Emery. Good to see the much slagged off Zaniolo get a key goal. Got feeling Diaby is hitting a bit of form , which is good news for our run in.
