  1. That’s a bit cautious. I would go for Bruce - never been better than under him!
  2. I’ve often thought this thread should be renamed “Ratings and Overreactions” and tonight it has truly earned that name. Some posts here literally take the breath away. I look forward to someone opening a Relegation Thread tomorrow.
  3. Love this site. We are 2-0 up yet somehow we have been “poor”!!
  4. That has been a fantastic 45 minutes of Emery ball played to near perfection.
  5. Interesting article in the Guardian today, assessing the prospects of the “five top contenders” for the PL title. Here’s what they say about the Villa, which seems quite fair
  6. Indeed, where PGMOLand VAR are concerned, cock-up is always a more convincing explanation than conspiracy If they did have a conspiracy to do down the Villa they would balls it up.
  7. Emery made an interesting point in post match interviews, about how we lost control of the game after the disallowed goal, effectively allowing heads to drop and Sheff U to mount some useful attacks for the first time in the game. I think his view was if we had just kept calm and stuck to the game plan, another moment would have come - like the Zaniolo moment - that even PGMOL couldn’t rule out, and we would have won. There is something in this and it is a counterview to the talk here about how we were set up wrong etc.
  8. Yes, best we could have hoped for IMHO. I suspect the earlier “Grrr”was because if we had beaten the Blades we would have been top this evening.
  9. Probably time to stop dwelling on VAR decisions. What’s done is done. Another game like Brentford where we struggled to create too many chances against a packed and well organised defence. This is what needs addressing, not irreversible VAR decisions.
  10. IT WASN’T A CLEAR FOUL ON THE GOALKEEPER, NEVILLE, YOU ****
  11. Truth is that Duran isn’t yet good enough to come on as a sub in circumstances like that.
  12. For family-related reasons I watched a lot of this match with the sound off, including the disallowed goal. I watched the replays over and over but I couldn’t even understand what was being checked. I managed to get the sound on just in time to hear Jamie Carragher babbling some completely incoherent explanation of the decision but I remain completely in the dark about why what looked a completely legitimate goal was disallowed, I am sure this wasn’t why VAR was introduced. I also noted the obvious handball that was overlooked by VAR that should have led to a penalty. I have mentioned this before for other games (e.g. Bournemouth away) but in the last three seasons we would have lost this game but the fact that we came back with an equaliser shows there is a new resilience in the squad that should make us not too disappointed at this result. There will always be games that are shit like this one but we got a point and we are still justifiably up there in 2nd place.
  13. I think it’s more than “slightly” unfortunate!
  14. That is an abysmal font. Hope we didn’t pay too much for this.
  15. I can see a problem or two with the Brentford fans' attempts to paint Ollie as an evil monster...
  16. I’m thinking that, far from appealing Kamara’s red card, we will likely be defending a charge of failing to control our players.
  17. Because he put his hand on the face of a Brentford player and I think that is just an automatic red card.
  18. Over the past two seasons we almost certainly wouldn’t have come back from 1-0 down against an obstinate team like Brentford, even against 10 men, since we were never very good at capitalising on those situations. The fact we came back to win is a tribute to the improvements in squad strength and focus that have come with Emery. People are saying we were poor but we were significantly below strength today in a key area of the field without Luiz and Tielemans, plus we have played 26 games this season as opposed to Brentford’s 19, and our squad is understandably starting to show the strain. So I think we did bloody well to come back and hold on. Shows we have a lot of resilience, not always a key characteristic in the past. Having said that, the scenes at the end were shocking, disgraceful and stupid. Watkins’s celebration was ill-judged, however much abuse he was taking, and Martinez and Kamara should know better than to be sucked into pointless brawling. I suspect there may be further punishment for the club from the Premier League and it’s a good chance the Club will discipline one or two players. The last thing we need just at the moment is to be losing players to stupid red cards.
  19. Seeing his explanation of the celebration, my mind went back to Cantona at Selhurst Park. Lucky for that Brentford fan (and us) that Ollie chose a less direct response.
  20. I sort of think Kamara got himself sent off!
