I think the move is complicated by the fact that he wants to stay at Leeds. Seems like JWP and ESR part three.

Could do with Forest being promoted. We could probably squeeze them for £15m.

I’m not sure if this is old news or not, but The Secret Scout have said that we’ve ‘raided’ West Brom’s academy for Luka Lynch and Triston Rowe. They’ve also lost 3 others players to Chelsea and Arsenal.

I think his position needs looking at. He doesn’t have a plan for this club, he just wants to showboat with big name signings without any considered thought about any of them. I’ve also go no idea what Johan Lange brings to the table. The January signings were all Gerrard’s. Gerrard’s appointment was all Purslow. What is the point of having a director of football if you don’t let him choose the manager and/or the signings?

He’s so good. His passes are perfectly weighted and timed. A genuine top class player.

I see no benefit to loaning him to Newcastle unless they are paying a massive (£5m ish) loan fee. If they stay up then they’ll be shopping in a much higher market, if they go down he might not want to play in The Championship again.
-
If he’s a no go in the summer, then he was always a no go in January in my opinion. Literally no point in him joining us now if he wants a top 4 club. He can just wait for 6 months.

A potential new challenger next season if they stay up?

I think this is what is called a statement signing, and one which would never have happening with Dean Smith in charge. I’m excited to see where we go from here.

He couldn’t play against Man Utd anyway, so it makes no difference for the next 2 games.

This would be such a Villa signing (not based on his ability because I’ve not seen him play) - but missing out on him for £1.5m and then paying 10x that amount 18 months later. I’m still not sure what our scouting department are up to. Aren’t they supposed to be unearthing these players when they are bargains?

Bit of an anti climax to the defence of our trophy. A much changed team to last year though.

Thanks

Is he doing a press conference today? Anyone know what time?

John Gregory only managed Wycombe before us I believe (only for 2 years I think).

I don’t particularly want Gerrard, but I’ll back him if he gets the job. He is a winner, no doubt. But it’s a big risk - for him as well as us. If he messes this up, he isn’t getting Liverpool anytime soon. I don’t want him fawning over Anfield like Houllier did. I want him 100% focused on Villa, which I think he will be. He comes across very professionally in the interviews I’ve seen recently.

I’ve got a feeling that we held back some of the summer kitty for January with one eye on possibly changing the manager.

Yeah, looks like they worked together at Lyngby. Could be 2+2=5. Nixon is a bit hit and miss, so not sure how accurate it is.

Alan Nixon (The Sun) says we are interested in Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand if we sack Smith. Would certainly be left-field.

Plus Valencia, AZ Alkmaar and Barcelona. He’d be a dreadful appointment.

Eddie Howe’s move to Newcastle on the brink of collapse apparently. Could be an option for us.

Yeah, Percy doesn’t speculate. I’m certain that he’s heard something.

I’m not really sure it’s worth discussion anymore. We are awful and Smith has taken us as far as he can. It’s just a matter of when he’ll leave now imo. I’ll be amazed if we don’t have a new coach in time for our next league game.
-
We look dreadful again tonight, and I genuinely can’t decide if the players are awful, or whether the coaching is awful. Maybe a bit of both.

I think he gets Friday, but even a win might not save him in my opinion. The international break will come at the worst possible time for Smith.
