The major issue with the stand is the lack of space in the upper concourse. That’s because the council permitted us to extend outwards by 8 metres rather than the requested 10 metres.

Villa’s best average crowd was about 47,000 just after WWII. Post-North Stand but pre-Taylor report the capacity was 48,000. To me, 50,000 seems about right. Extra seats make less difference to revenue than sold out corporate facilities.

Rebuild that linking wall in the style of the Holte and sort out those nasty looking staircases. -
Indeed. The roof was a 1960s replacement for the original, with the original stand remaining underneath. There was also somebody remodelling of the seating areas as well.

Bearing in mind the dimensions of the site, for me the blueprint continues to be the original Archibald Leitch layout which has survived the last 100 years or so even though stands have been replaced. Four separate (but complementary) stands connected at the lower tier level with massive end stands. There is space for a huge 15-16,000 seater stand at the North Stand end.
