This I really don't understand. Looking on from the outside, this comes across as a controlling owner looking for personal glory, not understanding his limitations. Nothing on his public CV indicates he is even somewhat qualified for such a position unless it's just a matter of negotiating the transfers Potter want to happen. I just don't get it.
  2. It will be interesting to see for sure. He is obviously held in high regard, and he'll probably need to deliver some immediate results.
  3. Not necessarily. I suppose it's a matter of familiarity, fitness levels, knowing where to go and when, where team mates are, practicing various phases of the game to replicate match situations etc. Some systems maybe more common than others, giving the players a higher level of familiarity from the off.
  4. The best part of being a fan is that you can just make stuff up in your head and pretend it will inevitably be so. Then you can build an argument around that either won't get tested against reality or you can just quietly forget if wrong. I have accepted that I am at a massive information disadvantage compared to the club, and while I have massive missgivings about Gerrard, I have to trust the club to pull the trigger at the proper moment if needed. Until then, may he won every single game until he is gone.
  5. I was thinking the same the other day. They seem to have started the season in good form, but I can imagine them struggling as fixtures pile up, they lose a bit of energy if they can't rotate enough, and all teams usually hit a slump or two over a season. Will be interesting to see how they will handle it. Returning to European football isn't just fun and games. It's hard work, and extra risk, especially for a small squad. Young teams tend to be naturally inconsistent as well.
  6. Agree, and that's something you see quite bit of with inconsistent teams.
  7. I'm 250% team Wallis. It'd be a disaster.
  8. Indeed, I loved that. But that result was an outlier, unfortunately.
  9. We have gone toe to toe with one of the best teams in the world? I must have slept through that part of our recent history. Wtf?
  10. I was more 'in' due to the fact that I have to trust the club to do the right thing as they hold a massive information advantage over us. I have always been doubtful and felt that SG probably isn't the one to take us forward, and one game won't change my stance here. Him and the lads really needs to show, not tell. If they don't I think the club will get rid.
  11. The pass from Luiz to Watkins was sublime as well. All started by Young. He was truly immense yesterday and it was great to see him play so well.
  12. Yeah, and as I mentioned when I spoke of my flabber being somewhat gasted by the fee, I have only seen him in Sweden's 'the system before all' games, and haven't watched him off the ball at all, so to me it's slightly less baffling now after a few very good games.
  13. We are sore, beaten and weary as a fanbase. All credit to the gaffer and the team today, but they seriously need to work to win the faith back. If they do, I swear to **** God the Villa fans will pull up trees and move mountains for them. But we are far, far from that at the moment.
  14. Don't tell anyone I told you this, but I think people on VT are too pessimistic sometimes, and that they don't have the full picture which makes them see things in the wors light possible. But please, let's keep this between the two of us. People get so angry with me for always being right about everything.
  15. Also, this didn't really look like a team playing for a manager they hate. Didn't see all of it due to travel though.
  16. Our fans certainly DID NOT BELEIVE. Me included.
  17. Credit where credit is due indeed. I doubt it, but this can be the start of a series of good results that shoots us up the table.
  18. Don't jinx it man. Also, be as pessimistic as you want be we are nowhere near fightufor survival yet. We are fighting for form.
  19. I think a proper financial crisis can pull the rug as people stop spending on luxuries such as football. It will mean all of us will suffer, but football might become somewhat more 'fair'.
  20. Yeah, one should never say never. Things might be shaken up if we're lucky.
  21. I think he'll be here until the break, even if I can't see him survive a Leicester loss or even draw. If that happens I think the axe will fall.
  22. It does take some doing having another VTer calling you a 'depressive character'.
  23. Also, I wouldn't call it deluded, but probably over optimistic, nostalgic or something similar. We all want our club to succeed, but our next cycle of success is far off. I think it will require some serious economic upheaval and the levelling of the playing field for the likes of us to be serious contenders again. I mean, look at Arsenal as an example of what it takes to get proper European competition. True, West Ham is playing in that othe European thing no-one but the winners really care about.
