  1. Villa fans: “We need to start generating more income through sponsorships” Also Villa fans: “I’m really disappointed that we’ve made a deal with ……., it’s a horrible business that they’re in”
  2. This, and also I think the club won’t pay what they feel is “over the odds” for a target.
  3. Who knows, with better worldwide scouting back when Lerner turned up we might’ve been able to break into it back in the 00’s, but I think that’s a debate for another day.
  4. I know what you’re saying, it’s nice to know what’s going on but if it keeps our opponents guessing then that’s more important unfortunately.
  5. And so they should. Why give out information to our opponents?
  6. You would like to think that if a difference in valuation was £5m that a compromise is possible and that a deal could be done. Just my opinion but I don’t think we would just walk away from a deal like the example you’ve given there, but once you start going over £10m+ in difference between the two clubs valuations of a player then it’s difficult.
  7. Common consensus? What does that matter? We paid what we did as the club thought it was a reasonable valuation, so we did the deal. What if clubs want more than we value the player at?
  8. Given the example you use there, buy JWP = CL here we come, don’t buy him = relegation scrap. Do you not think that’s a bit extreme? Also what if the player we buy flops? What if he wants massive wages? There are lots of factors that go into these deals.
  9. If clubs want more than we’re willing to pay for players then aren’t we right to walk away? It’s easy to just say “pay what they want” but I’m sure we have our valuation of any player we want to buy, and if it’s poles apart from the selling club then it’s going to be very difficult to do a deal.
  10. I’m just baffled at how many of you are sticking the boot in based on scenarios. By all means criticism of things that HAVE ACTUALLY HAPPENED is fair, but too many talk about their opinions as if they are facts which is bad enough, but when you are criticising things that haven’t even happened you are clutching at straws. Dean got a couple of selections wrong yesterday, he knows that, you can tell from his post match interview that he wasn’t happy with the performance, he wasn’t trying to gloss over anything.
  11. Or you could even wait until he’s had at least 6 months?
  12. It might just be my view, but there is expressing disappointment and then there is what we’ve had. This site has generally been vile the last 17-18 hours, I think in future I’m going to avoid on and after match days.
  13. If social media is anything to go by, I won’t be visiting Villa Park this season.
  14. Some of the responses in this thread make me seriously worry for these fantastic young lads we have coming through. Young players are inconsistent, they are good some weeks, not so good others, and they will make mistakes. As far as today goes I thought Ramsey made an impact when he came on, what he’s lacking at times in real quality as a youngster, he more than makes up for with his industry and work rate. He definitely added some physicality to our midfield too, which tbf we shouldn’t be having to turn to a 20 year old to bring.
  15. West Ham lost their opening game last season at home to Newcastle, their season fell apart after that right? We’ve got new players to bed in, the transfer window is still open, everything will be just fine. If that was our best team out there from the start today, I would be a bit concerned but it wasn’t. I personally dislike the term ‘bed wetting’ when used in a football sense, but there’s no other way to describe some of the reactions today. The match thread in particular was vile. It was a bad day at the office, there’s no denying that, but it happens.
  16. I hit a point in the 19/20 season where I felt that Dean was out of his depth, and that if he remained as manager that we would be relegated. People can debate about the goal line tech failure, and the break in the season for the first lockdown, but ultimately he turned things around. The start to last season showed what we were capable of under DS, Covid and injuries unfortunately derailed our season a bit but it should show all of us that Dean is able to beat the big teams, and he can get us doing it with style. He is someone who we as fans can be truly proud of, both as a manager and as a man, and we have to remember to keep supporting him when we go through tough spells this season as we inevitably will.
  17. Not that I’m saying for one minute that it’s a credible link, but if we’re just talking as footballers - he would be an upgrade on Mings. That’s not meant as a slight against Tyrone and the leadership qualities that he brings to our team, I’m talking as a ball player.
  18. This seems a bit baffling. He started 30 games in la liga for the team that won the title, without wanting to talk us down why would he be interested in coming to us? He’s always looked decent whenever I’ve seen him. If he is interested and available for £30m then snap their hands off!
  19. That’s a shock. I hope if it’s personal reasons, everything works out for the best for him.
  20. I admire your willingness to die on this hill.
  21. Go L for the stadium shirt, XL for the Pro.
  22. See this is pretty much where I’m at. I don’t love our current badge, but I don’t hate it either. This would be my one preference too.
  23. Even a broken clock is right twice a day right?
