  1. It will always come back to the release clause, and that will always be the damaging blow to Jack’s relationship with Aston Villa moving forward. If City had come in with a big bid this summer and Jack has his ‘head turned’ then it would ease over time, but this was a calculated move by ‘Team Grealish’. I honestly believe that even if we had somehow finished 4th, if City came in he would’ve still tried to manufacture the move.
  2. While it may seem ‘pointless’ for Buendia to be there, if he turns down call ups then he’s got no chance of breaking into the team. It’s a similar situation to the 6 England players cut from the final squad for the euros - they stuck around for the friendly games so as not to slip down the pecking order.
  3. That’s good news mate. Fingers crossed for them!
  4. It’s truly devastating. Perhaps try Tyrone Mings through Twitter? I don’t know what he could do about 6 seats together, but he wouldn’t ignore it especially under the circumstances.
  5. There’s lots of wigners on this forum mate!
  6. This is my big concern longer term. The ‘right’ thing to do is tell the Argentinian FA where to go come the next international break, but as you rightly point out that could turn pretty nasty very quickly if we do indeed try and block them from playing. It’s moments like this that are a bit deflating as a fan because it’s a reminder that we’re just little old Aston Villa, and we’ve just got to put up with it.
  7. The thing that I find really frustrating is the Argentinan FA’s behaviour in all this. We have been more than fair, and gone against our own wishes as well as our leagues wishes to offer a fair compromise. What if we’d taken the same approach as United with Cavani? It does feel like they think they can do as they wish, unfortunately FIFA are going to back them 100% on this as it’s for their tournament.
  8. Now I wouldn’t say he’s performed miracles but he has done a good job, good enough that he should have a bigger backing from our supporters than he currently has. He is still learning as a manager, it cannot be forgotten that this is the highest level that he has managed at. We have moved forward under him every season, the problem is we have not moved forward enough in the eyes of some. Having lost JG he is facing his biggest challenge so far in continuing to take us forward despite losing our best player, we’ve got to wait and see if he can.
  9. Really? I thought it was the date of the international fixture + 5 days?
  10. I hate Twitter rumours, I can only convince myself that it’s 99% bs and desperately check my phone every 2 minutes for ‘updates’
  11. Seems similar to a lot of our pursuits this summer, just because we have money to spend we seem determined not to be ripped off. Ings seems to be the only deal we ’overpaid’ on but I think we still got him for a reasonable price.
  12. The proposed compromise is fair, it’s not ideal for us obviously but they miss one game for us and one for them. We’ll just have to see what happens now.
  13. I know what you’re saying, but then we could punish the players for reneging on the agreement and bomb them out of the team which would probably result in them losing their place anyway. This could get really messy, I hope that isn’t the case and the Emi’s see that the club have been accommodating and fair.
  14. If a compromise has been agreed between the players and club then I don’t see what the Argentinian FA can do about it, it’s not national service and they aren’t playing for us instead so surely they are powerless? If the players go back on the agreement then we have a massive problem….
  15. I know you put the club first mate, and perhaps the initial ’news’ coming off the back of Saturday’s match, where the injuries feel like they’re racking up right now, and it’s losing 2 more players for something you probably feel is unnecessary given it’s their choice. You have to remember they’ve already been making those sacrifices that we’ve all been making, but to risk their international futures is a big ask, we’ll it is IMO anyway. You have to remember mate, this story is being pieced together from a tweet from Emi, a comment from DS after the game and a few other bits. We don’t know the full story yet…..
  16. I’m surprised mate, you’ve been very rational when it comes to our manager in what seems like a sea of irrational comments, but you’ve been quite irrational on this matter IMO.
  17. This needs to stop, this is as bad as the DS thread! We have to stop getting angry about things that haven’t even happened!
  18. I can’t believe how quickly a lot of fans have turned on him on snippets of information. Why not wait and see what the situation actually is before we burn him at the stake?
  19. What would happen if the players refused to quarantine after their return? Would they just be hit with a fine or could the face a judicial sentence?
  20. I think that a compromise has to be found, or this will snowball into something that could completely derail our season. I don’t feel comfortable with the players being told that they flat out cannot play for their country, but when this overspill from the international break threatens our ambitions for the season then there is a problem. Can these fixtures not be played in a venue/country which doesn’t require quarantine afterwards?
  21. While I personally think he gets more stick than he deserves on here, I have never once read anything to suggest that it has anything to do with the fact that Anwar is a Muslim.
  22. I don’t think Dean’s job is on the line unless we are flirting with relegation this season. We’ve constantly moved forward under him, if we finish mid table this year I believe the owners would give him another crack at it.
