Do you have a crystal ball? I think we will probably come up short but a lot depends on the team gelling, injuries, form, how other teams perform as well etc. We should look for a top half finish and see where that takes up. If we come mid table it will be ok. If we end up bottom 6 that would be a disappointing season and probably the end for Deano. A good cup run would be nice as well.

Not the best of games for the first one back but its a win and a clean sheet which I will always be happy with. The midfield was better today but versus a better side may still get overrun. Big call by Smith to play Ramsey and it largely worked. Hourihane and to a lesser extent Nakamba must be wondering about their Villa futures. McGinn and Luiz had decent games and Young brings a lot of experience to the team. Not sure what Martinez was thinking off for the pen and it was a tight call so got away with that. Enjoyed all of the day apart from the horrendous wait at Aston station, and when finally got to the platform a half empty train went so I had to wait another half hour.

McGinn would look better if we was allowed to go forward and we had either a more reliable DM than Luiz or one that could actually pass instead of Nakamba. McGinn best time with us was in the first season in the Championship when Jack was injured and he was allowed to roam forward and had either Whelan or Jedinak doing the dirty work. So in hindsight maybe we should have sold Luiz and actually bought a proper DM. Luiz is good and will improve but at the moment I never really think he works in our set up. Perhaps Smith is hoping he will mature this season and be that DM we need.
