  1. Doesn't look good. One would hope, if true, we can cut our losses in January and end the loan as if guilty he's not playing for a long old time. Real **** shame. But still if at this point I guess

    Louie Barry

    well that's just greedy
  3. The warning is just for western eyes though isn't it. Benny doesn't give a toss, more dead gazan's = less terrorists is his equation. because as so many people are seeking to make amply clear, all palestinians are terrorists so let's just finish off a few hundred thousand people now before they kill another few hundred of us down the line. All agreed? Lovely.
  4. If he doesn't want to be here after 2 months, then **** him off. Don't want an ego like that. All If's though, could just be speculation.
  5. Sure, I guess I just see a lot of all Palestinian = Hamas going about, or at least treated that way, which seems no different to all muslims are terrorists level of generalisation. I suppose it's a nightmare trying to articulate this point but - the atrocities are atrocious, obviously. Without question, and with no intent to diminish. But the language used by some in the media suggests a certain level of purity on behalf of the Israeli's, as if they are entirely innocent of committing such crimes themselves, or that everything done by the state of Israel has been entirely justified, which is clearly bollocks. In this particular instance, Hamas are 100% responsible for a retaliatory action that will include a huge amount of innocent civilians caught up in the collateral. But, the absence of any acknowledgement of the general hopelessness of the Palestinian cause, and indeed the effective social outlawing of such an opinion lest one have the AS label chucked at them, is enraging. Should discussing the nuance of the broader situation just be put on the back-burner for a couple of days, and wait until immediate emotions of disgust over the crimes subside a touch? I dunno maybe, but there's an element of "now's not the time, thoughts and prayers only" perpetual off-putting and shutting down of discussion about that idea. Again obviously the actions by Hamas are so counter-productive and revolting, they can't possibly be viewed in anyway as helpful. But there's a willful ignorance of what will happen in a population that everyone, inside and outside the arena knows have no chance of an actual future, of their own homeland. Those conditions are absolutely fertile breeding grounds for resentments to turn into violence, and it doesn't take much manipulation from Iran and others to exploit that sentiment. Why not hold those conditions under the microscope and, say for **** sake this is only going to keep happening? let's change the record.' And that it does require Israel to not steal land etc. There does not appear to be an actual path out of that world for ordinary palestinians. Is it just a case of "mustn't grumble, let's just wait until our collective genocide has been more socially acceptably completed: over generations slow enough that people won't really notice'.
  6. To an extent obviously, but do you think Hamas ( or similar terrorist groups on that side ) is the only reason Palestinians have ended up suffering or being victim of bomb attacks, losing their homes etc?
  7. I've seen reported elsewhere that this was nonsense. I don't know either way tbf and clearly Hamas have committed obvious war crimes anyway but is this specific example actually true?
  8. sub out the demographic I just prefer whites to blacks when it comes to punditry. I prefer Englishmen to Scottishmen when it comes to commentary etc. Men v Women is no different. Can have preferences within men or women but a blanket rejection of one group is daft.

    Do you read?

Yeah that's wise. Generally it's 1 fiction for bed time - usually, re-reading something like a Sharpe, or Rebus or something light or a memoir. Main fiction book, then 2 non-fiction options, 5th book is a wild card. Though speaking of memoirs, reading Adrian Edmondson's at the moment and it is great fun, easily one of the better celeb memoirs I've read. Entertaining and self-deprecating, comes across as a very normal guy really. Not that abnormal is wrong obviously. Also a shout out for Dear Life, by Rachel Clarke, though that's a slightly bleaker / life-affirming reflection on death and hospice care.
  10. Anything to make sure the favourites definitely don't get knocked out. In this regards, the cricket format is even more abominable than the rugby. At least Australia were able to go out after losing a 2nd game.

    Do you read?

No , though that's probably just as well. but then I don't do proper book reviews. I don't have the patience with that, I'll give a couple of lines here, or on goodreads maybe 5 or 6 paragraphs if I've particularly enjoyed the book. Can't be arsed with essays. If I'm going to read an in depth book review I'll go with, some level of snobbishness I guess for the credentials of a professional review in paper or magasine. Some people on goodreads go on for ever; sod that. Short and sweet for amateur book reviews for me.

    Do you read?

I'm due a spring clean and a charity shop visit. Also bought a new book shelf, which is currently empty. Let's see how long that lasts... that said I am really trying to keep a lid on things until I've read a few more, or at least limit myself to one purchase at a time whilst catching up! At a certain point I get stress overload, even when I'm reading 4 or 5 books at a time, trying to keep on top of things. I feel I 'can't' start a new book until I've got down the list, so I deny myself the ability to spontaneously pick up a new book to read on the spot until things are normal-ish. Haven't helped myself at the moment as just started Paul Auster's 4321 - a 1000+ page behemoth. On the other hand, a Clare Keegan novella should help the to read thing decline a bit. But it's the fact I want to re-read stuff or read a play occasionally and I feel I can't start doing those things until I've got things under control. A comfortable single digit unread book total would make me relaxed. Otherwise stress just goes overload in terms of dominating my spare time. I end up being guilty of reading to get through to the next book, rather than enjoying the pleasure of the book itself ( with more average reads anyway )
  13. Also, saw the first episode of the David Olusoga history series - Union. He is such a good historian / communicator, will watch anything he does. This continues in the same vein.
  14. Sex Education - final series was still good, ended well, but best bits were the non school based storylines, - Adam's, Erics, Jean's etc. that school would be an absolute horrorshow to attend in reality Finished Only Murders in the Building S3 - for much of the season, it didn't feel as enjoyable as the first two seasons, but I think it came together very well in the last couple of episodes so as a whole it's still good fun. Started the final series of Ghosts now. Really going to have to try and parcel out the final few episodes, once a week if we can.
  15. Luckily mcginns International week fingers crossed ends after Thursday. The 2nd game is a friendly. You'd really.hope he doesn't play that. When we eventually have Moreno and Ramsey back that will help loads, but we will.need a loan or two in Jan to help the squad with fatigue. For now, just hope there's no injuries. Rest up! Next few games does give us a chance to build momentum again.
  16. Unlucky had chances buy not to be. An away point against a bogey side is no disaster. Other teams drew around us so a bit of a shrug and on we go. Hopefully a rest for those who can now over the break.
  17. If it's a draw that's not a bad result. 12 minutes stoppage time
  18. Woah, the far right government of Israel have acted evily for decades, but fundamentally Israel is just another country, one borne out of extraordinary circumstances and tragedy. Israeli's have their own right to live a peaceful life, but yeah problem has been such a massive cackhanded approach since 1947, and maybe missed opportunities a touch with the Oslo Accords, but generally, there has not been genuine desire at any point for peace and 2 states from the Israeli's ever. They've always wanted the whole lot.
  19. I think the opposite. We have a lot of wildcard batters who can be mesmeric or hole out too quickly. Malan and Root are two reliables, who can be there to develop partnerships. But Stokes will be back for the next big game. Bowling in these conditions remains the challenge. They have to be on it. But also it looks like batting 2nd may prove to regularly be an advantage, but we'll see
  20. A break ( for some anyway ) coming up after this game. But we'll need to match their intensity and be on it early on. Think it'll be our first draw of the season. Shouldn't underestimate that O'Neil has got them working their bollocks off for him. Point away from would be fine if it comes to that.
