  1. Anyone know a decent chow mein recipe. I want it to taste like i bought it from a chinese with a strong flavoured sauce.
  2. why go to the same uni as your current friends. Surely one of the reasons is to meet new people.
  3. Just to help the gen out a little i can tell you that i was at VP in the week for a seminar, at the same time i saw at least two bus loads of school kids turn up and be subsequently taken around the ground. A school teacher friend of mine also took his school team to VP for a tournament maybe a year or so ago. At the end Gabby came out and handing free shirts out to all of the kids.
  4. I like Nike, had issues this year but i think a kit designer recognising quality issues and choosing to delay at a cost to them rather than selling and trying to mop up afterwards is a good thing. The kits in general have been a massive improvement, hopefully they can now work on the logistical issues.
  5. Work wise we've been flying for the last few months, almost at the same level as pre recession, annoyingly weve had a really quiet three weeks just before annual pay rises.
  6. always worth remembering how poor reserve team football is though. Osbourne and Salifou use to be world beaters at that level.
  7. My thoughts on this: I said about 6 months ago that if Nokia didn't either just try to get themselves with as much of a say as possible in Android or make a really good go of Meego that they're dead and buried. They've kept with trying to flog the dead horse that is Symbian and not really made any great strides with Meego so they've completely lost the smartphone market. I understand Nokia are still massive globally but the momentum away from them is even bigger. People get Nokia phones because they're cheap and simple or because that's what they know. Unfortunately for them, what people know is now how an iPhone or Android phone works, the slick touchscreen interface with popular viral apps. The only thing Nokia will have to rely on is their patents which should at least keep them afloat for years to come and allow them to survive to be able to innovate the next major thing in mobile, if they are able to. RIM is a slightly different one. They have the corporate mobile exchange market all sewn up at the moment. But they've reason to be worried about cloud mail. Corporate gmail is being used more and more so their usp of push mail with native exchange support is not the draw it used to be. Once the techies start showing off their next-gen smartphones to the execs with activesync / cloud mail and far better mail client / calendar / contacts sharing and sync etc. RIM will really have a job on their hands. Added to this the fact that Blackberry's really are incredibly crap means there's only one thing RIM can do now - use Android and put their exchange support on top. They would get all the stuff Android provides such as tethering, best web browsing experience, apps, hardware drivers plus their proprietary stuff and corporate image. The result would be a mobile exec's wet dream and mean they wouldn't have to carry the 2 phones anymore - the BB for work email and the smartphone as the useful, nice to use phone. If they don't do it now they'll fade into obscurity within 18 months and have nothing to fall back on like Nokia do. If they take it on right now and release a really good Android based corporate BB within 6 months they'll save it and remain relevant. You make some good points but fail to recognise the whole of the mobile phone market. My dad for instance cant even send a text message and 15 of the 25 mobile contracts i manage for my company have just been upgraded. They all asked for the easiest Nokia to use despite demonstrating the benefits of many different phones.
  8. do you have all of the maps stored on the phone or does it download them on the fly. In which case does it use a lot of data (not sure how much i get free) and what happens if im in a low signal area?
  9. Anyone know a decent sat nav app for the iphone 3g. (while im aware their are probably better Android Sat Nav apps it doesnt really help my current predicament :winkold: )
  10. doing things on the cheap, was reported yesterday that GH is set to be our highest paid manager ever. £8m over 3 years.
  11. All that aside they looked good against Pool, very hard working side, missing a goal scorer. I think we'll struggle against them in a few weeks.
  12. Well in fairness I think many people said the same (including the Liverpool players) - Rafa won it with what was essentially Houllier's team. Bit surprised that Houllier backed Domenech after Euro 2008 though - that's a bit of a worry! We give Benitez too little credit for the CL win. His signings, Alonso and Garcia, played very integral roles within the team. Whereas Houllier burdened the team with players like Traore and Biscan. I know he signed a few other gems as well, but I think it's a bit OTT to credit Houllier with the CL win. More food for thought: ""It is ironic that GH's comment actually proved that he is not as good as a manager as RB. Most of the players in 2005 was GH's player, RB used the exact same players to win the Champion League while GH would not even manage to get pass group stage(2002/03). The players were the same, the only difference is that RB is better than GH." This proves that GH is definitely a very horrible manager. A team that you cannot do well with that wins a champs league after you left them." Comments from another website. I still think Houllier is/will be a decent appointment btw, I'm just trying to put some objectivity into the debate instead of putting forth a one-sided view. i was under the impression 7 of those players were Houlliers? think you'd give him some credit for Gerard as well. You mention Traore and Biscan, i think a little bloke called Hamman had a bit to do with that win as well you know.
  13. all pretty irrelevant if you ask me, the only thing that matters here is how big your respective fathers are.
  14. Have had similar experiences in Krakow, they seem to be wary of lads groups. The group i went with has probably never had a fight between them but you tend to get tarnished with the brits abroad stuff now. Stayed at a nice hostel with a euro club underneath. A fun experience.
  15. Interesting that a lot of people have used Heskey in a list of poor Houllier signings. Didnt realise he scored 22 goals in his first season, only two behind Owen.
  16. its not his objective, its his honest opinion. Id say its probably correct. We were 6th, we havent improved, he'll be spending half the year with another managers squad id say we could finish somewhere between 7th and 12th though id like to finish 1st.
  17. Nobody "Nose" Apparently turned us down, my feeling is that hes one of these guys the Gen talked about who check the feedback on the internet and realised no body wanted him. If thats the case hopefully he gives the website to Heskey....HESKEY YOUR **** SHIT.
  18. Well, as claret's post suggests, there are different experiences to be had. I was just recounting mine and they weren't good but like I said they were a few years ago so it may have improved. I certainly hope their job search facility has and that looking for local jobs in the local area doesn't return results from 100 miles away any more. It isn't their job to decide on the type of person that someone is when they walk through the door. It is their job to provide help and advice to all those who are seeking work. I'm sorry but half of the problem with people working in job centres is that their 'efforts' vary in line with their judgement of people. If they were that good a judge, I'd suggest they'd be doing something slightly better with their working lives. just passing on what i was told. I tend to agree that in an ideal world they shouldnt be making judgements about who is trying and who isnt but if im honest, in that position i would do the same. If a had a large number of people seeking employment and half of which were just going through the motions then i would concentrate my efforts of the half that were interested. Dont agree with your point about passing judgements, in a large number of cases i dont think it would be difficult to determine who is/isnt making a genuine attempt.
  19. Did Ireland ever actually play as a second striker for City? i thought he was ofter used in a midfield 3 with Elano and Kompany?
  20. One of my friends was given money for shirts and ties for interviews. Another has been signed on for the summer, he has a teaching job which starts tomorrow but they allowed him to sign on and claim on the premise that he was looking for teaching jobs that could be completed during the summer months while he was out of work. Have never really used the job centre but a few friends have told me that you get out what you put in. If your keen and seeking a job they have good people who will try to help. If you a dosser intent on playing the system then generally you'll be treated as such.
  21. GH would be a good appointment, he would be an excellent appointment if its only until the end of the season.
  22. I think a lot of them will be happy to have such an established manager here. The ones that I've heard could be unhappy were Friedel, Carew and Warnock.. Friedel - surely only has one year left, so not a problem. Carew - We're looking for a new striker anyway, so not a big problem. Warnock - I'm not sure what happened with Houllier and Warnock.. I knew that Warnock didn't like playing under Benitez, but Houllier I'm not sure. Can someone enlighten me? would like to know this also, have heard Warnock slate Benitez in the past but never Houllier. I suspect its the press putting 2 and 2 together
  23. I really appreciated the General's posts and hope they will be back soon. Next time round the mods need to do a much better job of sifting out the lunatics, whingers and bad-grammar merchants Few if any clubs have a channel directly into (and out of) the power base of the club - shame that we've lost that through the actions of a few Maybe we need to introduce IQ tests before you qualify to post Id be all for some censorship. As the thread says, its a special thread with special rules. Free speech still exists on the forum (unless the mods say otherwise ) No other club (that im aware of) has access to someone as high up as this and if you look back through the thread i believe enough benefit has been gained for it to be deemed more than a pr stunt.
  24. It was like that on a few this morning Gaz. Balls. I was about to cover my bet with a few quid on Moyes. you best off covering your bets by laying on betfair. bets wouldnt be covered by betting on Moyes.
