If we lose this it won't be the end of our season.... ... but it will sure feel like it!

Interesting some of the reactions here. This was Ajax. At their stadium. In a season where they find themselves 27 (twenty seven) points off the top of the table. In their last throw of the dice to stay in Europe. And nothing else to play for this season. They threw themselves at everything. Did you see the reaction of the defender who desperately slid in to block Bailey's shot late on? You'd have thought he'd won the lottery. Now consider that we started with 5 changes to the team. We have a very important game vs Spuds in the next few days. We limited them to 5 shots and something like 2 corners. Emi had 1 save to make. We did not concede. Nobody (except Pau, maybe) was injured. That's exactly what Emery would have wanted. Job done. Nothing to see here.

I'm with @JAMAICAN-VILLAN on this one. These are notes which contain 1-line responses from a set of questions. They are not going into any detail. That immediately makes them sound glib and insulting. The FFP response, in particular, reads badly. It sounds like a "nope - you're wrong and you don't know what your talking about" type of response from the club on first reading. But what I think it's trying to say is, essentially, there is NO secondary level of FFP approval for everything. That is, if they decide to buy a player they do not first have to run it by the FFP department which rubberstamps the signing or tells them to GTFO. It's simply a budget they have to keep to and everybody is aware of it at every level in the club.

I love it. Unai is talking to Digne, but there isn't a person on the bench(es) that isn't listening intently to what he has to say, rant or no.

That's what Beale said

Makes such a difference in our midfield compared to the previous 4 of McGinn, Luiz, Kamara, Tielemans - who are too similar in my opinion. He's more likely to drive the ball forward and get into scoring positions. Excellent against Forest and still not at 100% capacity. Will be important for us as the season comes to it's conclusion
-
Good again today and against Forest's best player: Hudson-Odoi. He's good as a right back - his only issues this season, for mine, was when he was deployed further up the pitch. That's an experiment we don't need to see again. And yes, made a mistake dropping from the defensive line when we conceded the 2nd. He needs to work on that.

Ratings & Reactions: Villa v Nottm Forest

Yeah, I don't get it either. Second half had 2 goals and a raft of substitutions. Time added on? 4 mins. /shrug- 154 replies

Players you've completely forgotten about

I've heard of Chinese water torture.... ... but I didn't know their prisons were underwater! -
Hmm.... I get your other points, but the last one is a little odd If he can make a living out of following Villa - fair play! Pretty niche if making money was your only aim - perhaps a big 6 club would have been a better choice. Seems a strange thing to judge him on
-
I'm not catching that vibe, but perhaps that's just me. He doesn't seem to be well liked on here. Could it be Pete appeals more to the non-local fanbase like myself?

Great result considering some baffling rulings during the game. 3 things I learned: Cash is not as bad as he's made out on here. Excellent today VAR sucks the joy out of football and has negligible benefit in return. Get rid Ollie Watkins is a special, special talent.

I don't. Their first goal came from Watkins switching off at a corner and leaving Rasmus onside. The ones from Chelsea (at least the first 2) came from horrible turnovers by Kamara The ones from Newcastle (at least the first 2) came from horrible set piece defending from corners Newcastle aside - it's not the central defenders who are culpable.

I remember 1 poor pass from Lenglet. Apart from that, I thought he was ok. In fact, I thought our defense was good. Caught them offside plenty of times. Didn't help that we let in an early goal from a corner - but that is on Watkins for being slow getting out and playing Rasmus onside.

I'm not a fan. I had question marks before his injury - but that was really early in his PL career. Thought he was good against ManUre, though. I don't remember them getting much joy out of him. Not to blame for either goal and some good passing.
-
Gave him MOTM. Yeah - he needs to find his shooting boots again, and some composure in the box (that break away where Bailey played him in - he just blew it, sadly). But he made the difference in midfield compared to our last 2 home games and is a large reason we played so well in comparison - even if the result didn't go our way.
-
It looked bad and he lunged, but not enough for a red. A yellow? Yep. More concerning, though, was when Maguire had McGinn bailed up on the sideline. All over him, but McGinn turns and is away - despite Maguire literally grabbing both arms to haul him back. Ref gives a free kick (advantage would have been better - McGinn was filthy at the decision!) and a stern talking to. Laughable.

Sometimes I wake up and I forget: We are Villa. We can't have nice things. 3 things I learned: If we want to win at home, we really need to score first Nobody engages Martinez when he stands on the ball. Seeing as we were behind - what's the point? 23 shots, 10 on target and 1 goal. Our finishing cost us.

It's ManUre. We aren't in great form. We have injury concerns and a short bench. Ref will give them everything. Not looking forward to this one.

To borrow a quote from Fry out of Futurama: "I used to think Saudi football was real, like professional wrestling... ... turns out it's fake, like professional boxing"
-
For the last 2 home games it feels like all 4 midfielders are trying to play the same role - and all failing. Could use a Ramsay/Bailey/Zaniolo/Rogers/Buendia to mix it up a bit.

Ratings & Reactions: FAC4R: Villa v Chelsea

Could have done with exiting the competition without the replay, to be honest.
